Stage 5 Report

A hilly stage today. A Cat 1 right at the start and then 3 more climbs, one each of Cat 2, 3 and 4 and then another Cat 2 at 153k then 12k mostly downhill to the finish. 165k in all

Zegklis goes back to the pack so it looks like a lonely day out for Poole. He takes out the first sprint and the next climb, a Cat 3. He has a lead of 5’17 with 139k to go.

Poole, Zegklis and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Mihkels get the points at the Cat 4. Zegklis has the virtual KOM jersey lead now.

After the Cat 4 Zegklis persists with his attack and bridges up to Poole about 2k before the top of the Cat 2. He then wins the sprint to add another 10 points to his total. Peloton at 5’56 with 108k to go. 37k of mostly flat to the next milestone, a sprint point. Then about 55k more flat before the final climb.

Domestiques take out the remaining Cat 2 points.

Zegklis wins the second sprint. Behind a number of teams have contributed and the lead is down to just under 3 minutes. Kooij takes the last 2 points at the sprint.

Work from Xero, Speicalized, Hunter Valley and a number of others leads to the catch being made with 31k to go and 13k to the final climb.

Xero (O’Loughlin, Ferreyra, Heidemann) lead the full peloton on to the final climb. The climb, the Cat 2 Col de Manse, is 5.8k at 7.4%. It peaks 13k from the end of the stage.

A quite day in the GC. Gavars up to 3rd for now. The sprint bonuses move Kooij up to 2nd in points. Kudus, Halvorsen and Wenzel still lead GC, Points and Young Rider respectively. Bolt-Eesti take over the teams lead but still tied with Tinkoff on time.
