Stage 3 Report

Stage 3 is another sprint stage and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Dainese is again the favorite. But that hasn’t done him much good so fa. Today is definitely the hardest of the 3 sprint stages. It is long at 209k and the lone climb, a tough Cat 3 (4.9k at 5.5%) comes just 22k before the end. There are two sprint points earlier.

The peloton looks like they will allow a break today and the lucky 3 are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ced.png Stojnic, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lph.png Quintana and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/xr0.png Van Niekerk. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ekr.png Arias Villanueva was with them but the peloton wouldn’t let 4 go and unluckily for him he was the first to crack. The 3 survivors have 1’12 with 190k to go.

At the first sprint point Stojnic edges Quintana, Van Niekerk is third. Their lead reached 7 minutes but with 130k to go it is down to 5’49

The breakaway pass the 2nd sprint in the same order. Peloton at 2’10 with 39k to go. They will start the climb in about 13k.

The break splits up as they start the climb with Van Niekerk pulling away from the other two. But the peloton is just behind and it seems likely to be over soon.

With 25k to go and 3.3k left to climb it is over for the break.

A handful of riders are dropped on the climb but splits form over the top with only 58 riders in the front group. Most of the big GC names are safe but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png Elosegui is in a group of 4, 44 seconds down, it looks like Zwift may be sending a rider back for him, but they still have Jorgenson in the front group. 4k to go and the descent is over. Sprint trains are Assa Abloy (Rickaert, Kiskonen, Dainese) with Tinkoff (Rikunov, Samolenkov) mixed in with them. Then Zwift (Jussaume, Vernon, Enger), Rabobank (Bloem, Van der Kooij, Kooij) and Bolt-Eesti (Evangelos, Mihkels, Peak). 1.4k, Assa Abloy the strongest so far today and Kiskonen has the lead and Dainese on his wheel. He is being followed by Halvorsen, Samolenkov and Grosu. Next over is Vernon with Enger. 800 meters, a great pull by Vernon has Enger in the strongest position. There is a big fight for position behind him on the rail.

500 meters, Enger swings out and heads for home. Halvorsen and Dainese are the next leaders on the road.

Halvorsen holds on to the GC and Points jersey, he will hope to win the latter competition but with all the sprint stages done we won’t be hearing much more from him. Kooij is the White Jersey and Stojnic will get to wear polka dots again tomorrow.

The gap never closes and only the front 56 finish on the same time as the winner, the next group loses 1’45. Tinkoff is one of 6 teams to put 3 riders in the front group and they have the teams’ lead.
