The WJMG Podcast Previews ft. JT
whitejersey
The Poddy is being recorded tomorrow and I aim to upload the first one relatively shortly after recording is finished tomorrow.

For this year's previews I have pulled in Engine Expert JT to bring more dynamic discussions to my rambly bits from last year!

And there I am done with CT!

Great listen, a lot of thoughts I agree with (and some I don't agree with naturally) and I even got mentioned (twice I think)! Thats my 5 seconds of fame!

I really like it when you start out somewhat negative and you can hear some teams grow on you while discussing them Grin

Really looking forward to the next 2 segments!

Amazing preview and brilliant analysis!

I liked how you explained different strategies the team could take and a bit overlooked riders being showed some love.

Thanks a lot for doing these! Smile

Sitting in the park on my lunch break, and everyone must think I'm mad smiling and laughing. Only through the first few teams of the pct but it's a very fun listen. Very interesting to get some more details on the game engine and how that interacts with the MG DB, which you can't really express well in forum posts.

You guys give me too much credit (but then again, Top5 winningest manager). Hopefully the team-noone-understands(-yet!) can live up to your expectations.

Caught up with both CT and PCT so bring on the PT one! Grin

Very interesting listen. A lot of things about the game engine i wasnt aware of but for me the most interesting parts are when you talk about the decisions where managers put their team depth and those squad building decisions that lead to that. I hope that you touched on that for Evonik because where i have my depth doesnt allign particularly well with where i have my best leaders.

Great job!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Made it through CT and just my team for PCT so far. Very well done guys, this level of analysis is such a treat. I will say for my team I'm a bit worried as Ive not planned the way that seems most intuitive to you both. I.e. Arensman racing a totally separate schedule from Almeida, no big TT race for Blum... So we'll see how it goes. Looking forward to listening to the rest this evening!

I think that's normal that there are things to disagree on; even WJ and I had differing views on the teams, and sometimes we'd even seen riders perform differently to each other (looking at Errazakin)

The negative to positive was mostly as you start to plan teams in your head, you can slowly start to see the vision sometimes.. I like to think right: 120 rds where do leaders fit into this and a couple of teams you look originally and think they don't have enough, but when you start to count the rds in your head they actually cover a full calendar.

Glad you enjoyed Bjartne hopefully we see lots of Page -> Stalberg leadouts this year!

Sometimes on forums it really doesn't come across how perplexed you can be by things and your team HQ takes the win in that i'm still stumped now!

Glad you enjoyed the podcast and the well deserved credit

Honestly we filmed this in one 8 hour sitting so PT is a bit of a blur hopefully we did it justice! The squad building side of MG is very interesting and another overlooked part (along with planning) that can make or break teams at times really enjoy talking about them and glad you enjoyed listening

does make sense why you would want Arensman and Almedia apart and if the races fit (im guessing it means ones at TOA to take most of their Rds) can't see this making much difference as your MT depth is good with Stockli, Balmer and Schir hope it pays off for you.

Just listened to the PCT (CT was done some days before), and I really like your analysis, can pretty much agree.
However, not sure which teams you really see promoting after all. There are quite some "on the edge" teams, and I think you're pretty sure only for Zwift and Bralirwa, maybe UBS. But I'll happily take the "on the edge" label here, 6th-7th would be a decent year. Looking at many other teams, I think having 8 unmaxed riders and still being "at the edge" of promotion is a decent outcome. Even though missing out on promotion will definitely cause some headaches with Schmid, Bissegger and F. Christen all asking for a higher wage next year ^^

Think I can agree that Godoy is a great rider to have, sadly he has neither great support, nor a perfect calendar - we'll see how well he can do.
Agree on the missing top sprinter, even though Szarka could still do well in stage races (hopefully I picked the right ones). And missing a top cobbler as well could really be too much. I can also see Stewart doing well - but imho the influx of strong cobblers might just have been too much for him to consistently do well. If he can get to the finish line with the front group in easier races, it's quite obvious that he could do well... The same also holds for Sommer in C2, where he could get some surprisingly good results...

I also agree on your take on TT trainings, which more or less directly translate to points. It's not quite true this year, though, with that one nasty clash being added. And - as others have mentioned it - given that TT training isn't linked to PRL, the impact isn't as big as I would have liked it to be - in particular given the many short TTs. PRL has an impact up to 10km I think, which for example in Amissa Bongo will probably make Bissegger finish outside the Top 20... He should hopefully be more useful in PT, but we'll have to make that jump first...
