This year’s individual time trial championship will take place on a 45.5k flat course with two time checks.
Jussaume won last year but he has aged out so we will have a first-time winner. The favorites are Milesi (ITA), Vacek (CZE) and Terada (JPN)
The first rider on the course is Thornley for Great Britain
The best early time comes from Ju (CHI). He finishes in 58’07 knocking Tuyizere (RWA) off the hot seat by 1’02.
The first man to beat Ju at the 2nd check is Varotsos (GRE).
Varotsos is still the best time at both the first two checks as he comes home 1’30 faster than Ju.
Kmieliauskas won back-to-back U23 TT titles for Lithuania, Mikutis won’t put the Lithuanians back on top, he is 27 seconds off the pace, 2nd at the moment.
Changsheng is 1’28 down taking over 3rd from his countryman, Ju.
Vacek (CZE) is 2 seconds ahead of Varotsos at the 2nd check.
Terada (JPN) was is much stronger, 32 seconds faster than Vacek. Only Milesi still to reach the 2nd check.
Paleni (ITA) slots into 3rd 28 seconds down, Gomez (ARG) into 4th, 32 seconds off the pace and Ayuso (ESP) into 5th, 57 seconds down.
Vacek loses a little time in the last section and is on the same time as Varotsos at the finish but shown behind on the provisional standings.
Terada makes that irrelevant, putting 49 seconds into the Varotsos and Vacek to take the hot seat.
Milesi (ITA) will be the last to finish. He was on the same time as Terada at the 2nd check.
Milesi is shown on the same time as Terada at the finish. The fractions seem to favor the Italian but we will wait for the official confirmation.
Indeed, Milesi is the U23 time trial champion. First ever victory for Italy in this race.
