Two sprinters of high caliber go head-to-head today: Abdul Halil and Zariff. Who will come out on top?
Ahmad Zamri and Ghani try to spoil the party with an attack from 4 kilometers out. Neither sprinter has professional riders to support them, so this could be a dangerous move.
But the amateurs do a good job and the two are caught inside the final 1.5 kilometers. Abdul Halil is near the front on the left side, Zariff is not as near as he might like to be, following Marzuki over the middle.
Tsen and Misbah lead the way with 700 meters to go, then follow Abdul Halil, Azman, Marzuki and Zariff.
Abdul Halil takes the lead with 300 meters to go, but Zariff is currently faster, trying to get to the front on the left!
It is a photo finish that takes some time to analyze, barely discernable with the naked eye. But when the result becomes official, it’s Zariff who comes out on top!

Time Trial
We have another duel between two evenly matched riders in the time trial.
And incredibly, it looks just as close as the road race! Ahmad Zamri leads at both time checks by less than a second, as both he and Misbah overtake rider after rider.
This might just be the closest pair of national championships in history. After a photo finish in the road race, the time trial is decided by fractions of a second, too, as Misbah and Ahmad Zamri ride virtually identical races. But in the end, Ahmad Zamri just barely comes out on top and takes the title!
