Elosegui is the top favorite, but there are plenty who will fancy their chances to challenge him.
No professional rider was in the breakaway today, and the only notable event of the first 35 kilometers was a puncture by Lopez, but he never lost contact with the main group and was escorted back to the front by Romo.
With 12 kilometers to go, Lazkano launches the first significant attack. Elosegui is right there behind him.
The group is caught a few kilometers later by a concerted effort of Aranburu, Romo and Mas, among others.
Roson then goes for it and alongside Elosegui, Lazkano, Rodriguez and Canal, he creates a 40 second gap. The Aker – MOT probably would’ve preferred Lopez in there, but he was out of position.
Aker’s faith in Canal is limited and so they send Rodriguez to the front to chase, alongside Aranburu and Mas again. They bring the gap down to just under 30 seconds when Roson attacks again. Only Elosegui and Rodriguez can follow.
But a massive effort from Rodriguez brings everyone back together. With 3 kilometers to go, Lopez sets out to reward his teammates’ efforts.
Under the flamme rouge, only Aranburu and Roson remain with him. It’s between these three, and the latter looks already empty.
And indeed, it turns into a two-men sprint with the better outcome for Lopez. Despite the early puncture, he was able to conserve his energy thanks to his team and leverages that into the title of Spanish Champion!

Time Trial
33 year old Gonzalez Salas is the runaway favorite here.
Verona does his best to make this exciting, he’s within 3 and 7 seconds, respectively, of the Fastned rider at the two checkpoints.
But ultimately, Gonzalez Salas is too strong. He becomes the new National Champion by a margin of 18 seconds.
