Stage 11 Report

By the end of todayâ€™s stage the race will be half over but there are a lot of mountains between now and then. Today starts that trend, the big one is the Puerto de Ancares the top of which the riders will reach at the end of the 162k stage. Before then they tackle 2 Cat 3â€™s, a Cat 2, a Cat 1 and then the HC rated finish. Although we are on stage 11 there are more than enough points today for a rider with zero to start the day to take the mountain jersey.

Herklotz is the favorite to take the stage.

The first climb of the day, the Alto Cima Da Vila summits just 15k into the stage. 17 riders use it as springboard to open a gap. A few others tried to join them but didnâ€™t last. On a nice long straight road before the first sprint point all 3 groups can bee seen. The break has 1â€™08 on the Red Jersey group who have 1â€™01 on the rest of the peloton. Aular has missed it which why Los Pollos are among those working in the peloton. 132k left in the stage.

The break doesnâ€™t contest the sprint. Aker runs out of men and the red jersey group is caught which brings more Aker men to the front and they begin to chase again.

With 100k to go Aker are still chasing and the gap is down to 1â€™23, the closest itâ€™s been in a while.
