Today’s stage is mostly flat with a short steep climb to the finish. Will it be another one for the break?
Probably not as Garby is the only attacker.
Lagane is once again interested in the intermediate sprints. He adds 4 points and is now 4th in the classification with 33 in total. For some not so obvious reason Eislers is also going for it.
The same two fight at the second intermediate sprint, this time in opposite order.
But in the last intermediate sprint it’s Laganes turn again. He’s now 2nd in the classification, only 6 points behind the leader.
The first 110 km were all about intermediate sprints, the next 60 km will be about KoM points. Garby obviously wins the first one, but surprisingly in the peloton there’s no interest at all to go for the points. It’s the same at the following two KoM sprints.
Garby is caught with 15 km to go. The final climb begins in 11 km.
A complete peloton enters the final climb together. Experience tells it will be all about positioning from now on.
Or you just attack! At least that’s the way Smith prefers to play the game. Healy leads his captain Meintjes and Habtemichael to cover this attack.
These four have a small lead entering the final km, but Smith looks spent.
And in the end Meintjes takes profit from the attack and extends his GC lead!
Behind him Habtemichael beats Smith as well. Healy comes in 4th while Galta leads the peloton over the line in 5th.
Then Strong leads a Zappes Armada over the line. Pronskiy, Rivera, Budyak and Lagane complete the top 10.
Meintjes now also leads the points classification.
