Stage 3 Report

The final stage of Ras Tailteann is 177k of flat kilometers including 3 sprint points. After which we will know the race winner and hand out a big helping of points. Oddly more points in 3 flat stages than the climbers got for slogging up and down the biggest climbs in the Pyrenees for five days last month.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis is the favorite, if he can win today, he will have pulled off the PT sprint race double, having won in Qatar in January.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/favs.jpg

Peloton feeling generous today and they let a 7-man break get away. Included are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Amari, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Culey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Quintana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Mugisha, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Krul, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Moiruri, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Erdenebat. Some big engines in that group, the catch won’t be easy. Also, Amari, Quintana and Moiruri are White Jersey eligible, there are enough points on course to matter for that competition.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/01.jpg

Quintana wins the first sprint ahead of Mugisha and Culey. Peloton is wary of this break and the lead is not growing. Right now it is 2’14 with 137k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/02.jpg

100k to go for the peloton, the lead is at 3’12, which is the biggest it has been. Working are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Mudgway, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Hansen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Stavrakakis, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Skala

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/03.jpg

Culey wins the seconds sprint ahead of Amari and Mugisha. Peloton at 3’43 with 60k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/04.jpg

Erdenbat is dropped at the sprint point and unable to rejoin.

Culey wins the third sprint ahead of Mugisha. Moiriri 3rd this time. Each of the young riders in the break have taken some seconds none have taken enough to get the jersey. Peloton at 3 minutes with 30k to go it is going to be close.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/05.jpg

19k to go the gap is still 1'53. Peloton down to 78 with White Jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Holzer the biggest name dropped. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Van Poppel thinks an attack is a good call.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/06.jpg

12k, Van Poppel’s first attack didn’t work and he is trying again. Up front the break is disintegrating and the 3 youngsters, Amari, Moiriri and Quintana are left at the front. The big engines have used themselves up trying to stay clear.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/07.jpg

5k banner, a brave effort from the break but just the 3 youngsters left out front and they only have 21 seconds. Trains are the usual suspects, ELCO, cycleYorkshire, Puma (but only 1 man ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kanter), Assa Abloy and Spark. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Hsu also tried an attack but has now settled into a more traditional sprinter’s role following the ELCO train.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/08.jpg

1.6k, ahead they have a sharp left and then straight to the finish. ELCO have the inside line but need to catch up or they will get swamped in the corner. That job will fall to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Cavagna and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Zingle. Hsu still following ELCO. cycleYorkshire are strong today, they are slightly ahead and have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Dujardin, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Ballerini ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Albanese just falling back. For Assa Abloy it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Rickaert and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Coutinho ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Dainese with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lot.png Veyhe and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio fighting for Dainese’s wheel. On the outside Spark have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Coquard being led out by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Edmondson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Afewerki. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Gross and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kanter just inside them and behind them are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Halvorsen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Minali, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lot.png Liu and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Philipsen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/09.jpg

ELCO do get shuffled back and coming out of the corner it is Spark and cycle Yorkshire leading but their leaders are a little back, while Dainese is right on Coutinho’s wheel on the right. Gross is up there but has lost Kanter. The finish is steadily uphill from here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/10.jpg

Maybe it was a smart move from ELCO preserving the inside line means Zingle now has clear road and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis on his wheel. Dainese has started his sprint in the middle of the road. Gross is following Coutinho still. The other sprinters all further back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/11.jpg

400 meters, Farantakis, Dainese and Coutinho contesting the win. Assa Abloy does not want Coutinho to take seconds from Dainese but I guess if he can win it is ok? Behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kanter are closest. Gross losing ground now, he did a lot of work.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/12.jpg

200 meters, still Coutinho leading, Farantakis has passed Dainese. Then Bonifazio, Kanter and Halvorsen with Ballerini and Cullaigh just behind him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Coutinho can’t hold on, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis takes the stage and the race, ELCO the best lead out work again. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Dainese passes his teammate for second. Two on the podium in the right order is a nice day for Assa Abloy.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio with a strong finish to take 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kanter and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Halvorsen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh is 7th then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Afewerki, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Hsu and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Ballerini. Tough day for Spark, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Coquard maybe feeling the age in his legs today, didn’t have it in the uphill sprint and ends up 12th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Ras/S3/16.jpg

The peloton comes back together at the finish and only a few riders lose time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis wins Yellow and Green, a pretty good return for 3 days work. Kanter, Dainese, Coquard and Cullaigh is the order behind in both competitions. Spark do get two in the top 10 with Afewerki finishing 7th.

Holzer hangs on to the White Jersey ahead of his teammate Demiri and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Quintana who tie for 2nd.

The top four in the team standings (and the ones who will get points) are ELCO, Assa Abloy, Spark and cycleYorkshire.
