Today should be a day for the sprinters, but there are some bumps towards the finish that could make things more interesting and potentially hectic.
KOM points are available today so getting into the break early is important. These are the five riders that sprint through the first KOM:
Wade Varotsos Kallberg Paulus Arashiro
Kallberg takes the first of three intermediate sprints. It's a short stage today so the peloton are keeping this group on a leash, the gap is under 3 minutes.
Varotsos wins the 2nd KOM and now leads with 10 points, but there is a maximum of 20 points still on the road.
Arashiro easily wins the 2nd intermediate sprint, his teammate Paulus is back in the peloton.
With 36 km to go the breakaway is already caught. A group of 17 riders are detached from the peloton and with mainly Specialized setting the pace it looks like they won't make it back. I'm not sure there is anyone in that group that's a threat though.
That group does come back as we now enter the final 20 km. Svrcek took 10 KOM points leading the peloton across the Oude Holleweg which will come up again before the finish.
The riders get a look at the finish line in Nijmegen as this was the last intermediate sprint which the top sprinters did contest. Dekker wins it ahead of Girmay.
Roman takes 10 points over the top. Now there are only 6 km to go. Let's see if some leadout trains get organised in this short amount of time.
This is the last 90 degree turn with 3 km to go. Sprinters with the most support here are Kennett, Wouters, Perera and Nommela.
Lotto have fought their way to the front with Ariesen-Daniel- Wouters. Kennett has Quita ahead of him on the right while Bittner is trying to do a job for Sanikwathi.
Long leadout for both Lotto and Specialized as both sprinters hit the wind with only 400 m left. Can they accelerate now to fight for the win or can the others already sprinting get the jump on them?
They sure can as Kennett takes the stage victory ahead of Wouters and Girmay, the latter picking up some nice bonus seconds today.
Speaking of bonus seconds Kennett had a decent chance to take the overall lead today, but just the stage win bonus wasn't enough so Howson stays in the race lead. Roman is the KOM leader and Kallberg moves into white due to his exploits in the breakaway.
