Race Report

Not surprisingly pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez tops the favorites list.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/favs.jpg

With 181 of the 209k still to go there are 6 riders in the break: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Askey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Julajuj, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Rafferty, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Poljanec, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Brenner, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Syritsa. The have 3’17. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Bechkov and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Blume Levy tried to bridge over, the former failed but Blume Levy is still trying, he has a 2’18 gap to close.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/01.jpg

As they hit the first climb of the day, the Azkarate the lead is 7’04, pretty close to its maximum. This is the first of the three early climbs, then there is a long bumpy section before 3 climbs towards the end. Blume Levy never made it across and is back in the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/02.jpg

The first set of climbs is over and with 104k to go the lead is 4’43, on the front are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Froidevaux, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Vervenne, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Neilands, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Stedman. and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Quadrelli.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/03.jpg

The first of the second set of climbs is the Jaizkibel (7.5k at 5.8%). The break’s lead is 3’05 as they start it, 63k to ride.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/04.jpg

Rafferty and Askey are dropped from the break and almost caught with 41k to go. Evonik and Sauber dominating the front of a 38-rider front chasing group. Another 118 riders just 40 seconds back, the 4 surviving breakaway riders are 44 seconds ahead. The break is about to start the 2nd of the final 3 climbs, the Erlzaitz (6.8k at 7.2%).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/05.jpg

2k later it is over for the break on the lower slopes of the climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Badilatti and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Lazkano setting the pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Hirschi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Valter use that as a springboard to get a gap. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ubs.png Buchmann tries to bridge across. Bralirwa leading the chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/06.jpg

After a chase that lasts most of the climb pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Van Eetvelt brings the four attackers back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/07.jpg

More attacks come on the downhill. First pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png De Plus who is brought back and then Lopez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Vansevenant

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/08.jpg

None of the attacks stick and a 56-rider group starts the flat section that leads to the final climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Scaroni, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Battistella, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Stehli on the front. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Skujins and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Kelderman the biggest names missing they are in a 14-rider group 52 seconds back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eve.png Henao gets bored and attacks on the flat with about 7k to the last climb and 15k to race. The Kelderman/Skujins group has closed to 28 seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/10.jpg

Henao’s attack mainly serves to accelerate the pace and put an end to the comeback of the chase group. So, it is still a 56-rider group when they hit the lower slopes of the final dlimb the Murgil Tontorra. The climb is 2.k at 9.2%. But the last k is hardest with ramps up to 18%. After the descent there is about 2k before the finish. Fastned on the front now with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Guerreiro and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Teuns.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Aranburu makes the first attack. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eko.png Paret-Peintre, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Valter, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Champoussin and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Ardila follow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/12.jpg

The attack thins the front group to 28 before Valter counters on his own.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/13.jpg

Valter is brought back and Lopez strikes out with the top of the climb in site.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/14.jpg

Lopez has an 11 second lead as he crests the climb. Behind him is a group of 8 (Valter, Amezawa, Hirschi, Aranburu, Paret-Peintre, Champoussin, Vansevenant and Ardila), then another 22 seconds to a 17-rider group. 5k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/15.jpg

Vansevenant and Ardila are dropped from the chase group over the top.

Lopez still has 11 seconds as he hits the flat section, he can see the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/16.jpg

1k banner, looking good for Lopez he still looks strong. Champoussin and Hirschi leading the chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/17.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez lives up to his top billing and takes the win with 16 seconds to spare.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Aranburu shocks his manager and does the national champion’s jersey proud by grabbing 2nd on home turf. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eko.png Paret-Peintre shows his speed to finish third. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa gets 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Valter, then it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Hirschi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Champoussin.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Vansevenant beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Ardila for 8th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/SanSeb/20.jpg

Defending champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Schmid has to settle for 10th leading home the next group.
