Race Report

The organizers favor the rouleurs for this one.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/favs.jpg

There is a lot of interest in the break but the peloton works hard to limit it to 6 riders. With 2.2k to the first of the many punchy climbs on the route (the Klauberg) the lucky 6 have 45 seconds. They are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Holzer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Madsen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Curley, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gzl.png Chokri, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Uhlig, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ubs.png Maciejuk.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/01.jpg

About 100k to go for the peloton, they trail by 4’06, down from a max of 6’45. Work being done by Indosat (Mohammad), Puma (Hollman), cycleYorkshire (Kanerva), ELCO (Davies). Cedevita (Duric) also near the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/02.jpg

We skip ahead to 36.5k to go. Chokri has attacked his companions and has a 33-second lead as they tackle the last of those punchy climbs (the Bensberg). After this it is mostly flat. Madsen was dropped from the break and is back in the pack which is 1’39 behind the 4 chasers and 2’12 down on Chokri.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/03.jpg

20k banner, Chokri has been joined at the front by Maciejuk and Curley but they have just 24 seconds on the peloton where ELCO, Indosat, cycleYorkshire, Los Pollos and Puma are all beginning to organize trains. The rest of the break has been caught. Peloton is almost complete with just 4 riders dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/04.jpg

11k, they are crossing the bridge on the finishing circuit. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Erdenbat and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Halvorsen on the front with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Aniolkowski behind them. cycleYorkshire has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Dujardin, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Buratti, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Kemboi, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh. The ELCO trio is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Cavagna, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Zingle and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis. Indosat and Puma are behind them. No attacks so far.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/05.jpg

2.7k, the sprinter’s teams have had an iron grip on this one and the rouleurs haven’t had a look-in. On the front now are Cavagna and Zingle. Then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Groselj and Farantakis. To their right are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Ruiz and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Halvorsen. Indosat has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ino.png Nur Hasan and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ino.png Gaviria. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kanter and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Vesely are on their own but well placed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/06.jpg

1.6k Nur Hasan drives to the front, Gavira a little behind with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Groves on his wheel. Groselj seems to riding for himself, then Los Pollos still has Ruiz ahead of Halvorsen. ELCO have dropped back a little with Cavagna pulling off with Farantakis still behind Zingle. Kanter, Vesely and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Enger are the next three and then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Aniolkowski.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/07.jpg

1k, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Groselj has a slight lead. ELCO back in front among the sprinters. They turn left across the bridge and then it is straight to the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/08.jpg

Wait, Groselj wasn’t riding for himself, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Philipsen has come flying to the front around the outside of the corner, does he have enough left to finish. 700 meters most of the leaders haven’t launched yet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/09.jpg

500 meters, Philipsen doesn’t seem to have much left. Halvorsen has swung right and lost a little ground. The leading man is now Farantakis, with Aniolkowski on his wheel then Cullaigh and Vesely. Gaviria looking for room behind them and then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Ovsyannikov and Enger.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/10.jpg

100 meters, Farantakis just holding on ahead of Cullaigh and Aniolkowski.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/11.jpg

Its close but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis wins another PT flat classic, his leadout was the most organized. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Aniolkowski grabs 2nd and another great result for Rabobank. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh third.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/12.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Vesely holds off pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ino.png Gaviria for fourth. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Ovsyannikov with a solid 6th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/Koln/13.jpg

The Norwegians, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Halvorsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Enger take 7th and 8th with the home hero, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Kanter, only 9th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Hsu just beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio for the last spot in the top 10.
