Rheden GP (PTHC) - Preview
Hello everybody and welcome to the Netherlands for the Rheden GP! This race goes back all the way to 2014, when Nick Nuyens celebrated victory for Gazelle. Since then, no rider has been able to win more than once here, with most recent victors being Mads Pedersen, Lukasz Wisniowski and Danny Summerhill. That already tells us what to expect here, cobbles! Let's have a look at the profile.

See, I didn't lie. It has to be said that it isn't always a pure cobbler winning here either, as for example in 2020 Kristoffer Halvorsen was victorious here. Let's take a look at the best cobblers in the race.
| Fla | Sta | Res | Cob | Spr | Acc | Spengler | 74 | 74 | 73 | 83 | 62 | 70 | Zepuntke | 72 | 79 | 72 | 82 | 72 | 65 | Anderberg | 78 | 77 | 76 | 82 | 60 | 73 | Altur | 75 | 75 | 70 | 82 | 72 | 68 | Van Hooydonck | 73 | 75 | 74 | 82 | 61 | 72 | Gerts | 76 | 75 | 79 | 81 | 71 | 69 | Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 75 | 77 | 81 | 59 | 67 | Gamper | 77 | 77 | 77 | 80 | 64 | 71 | Teunissen | 75 | 76 | 72 | 80 | 66 | 68 | Girmay | 77 | 76 | 76 | 79 | 77 | 76 | Sulimov | 72 | 75 | 69 | 78 | 64 | 69 | Ferreira | 72 | 72 | 68 | 78 | 70 | 67 | Moulingui | 74 | 71 | 71 | 78 | 65 | 68 |
With the biggest classic rivals not being here, is this the perfect opportunity for a rider like Spengler or Zepuntke? They still need to beat some other big cobblers to make it happen though, but this might be one of their biggest chances of the season for a really big result.
This race has not always been the most selective, so if a smaller group of strong cobblers make it to the finish line together, the cards seem to be most fit for riders like Girmay, and in a lesser extent for Altur and Gerts as well.
In case we're back at a Halvorsen scenario, some other riders come into the picture to be victorious here as well. Here's a list of sprinters decent or even good on the cobbles as well.
| RR Image Code | Flat | Stamina | Resistance | Cobbles | Sprint | Acceleration | Nommela | 72 | 70 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 78 | Garcia Cortina | 76 | 76 | 72 | 74 | 77 | 76 | Jimenez Retana | 71 | 69 | 68 | 70 | 77 | 79 | Stewart | 77 | 74 | 77 | 76 | 76 | 71 | Sarreau | 75 | 74 | 76 | 72 | 76 | 76 | Räim | 74 | 73 | 72 | 71 | 76 | 75 | McLay | 72 | 73 | 71 | 71 | 76 | 75 | Lauk | 78 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 76 | 76 | Vahtra | 72 | 75 | 73 | 76 | 75 | 72 |
Let's find out tomorrow if any of these guys can cause an upset. Good luck to all!

Despite having a solid sprint, I still hope to see a somewhat selective race, to make sure Altur stays in front. He has Stavrakakis and Cavagna here as domestiques, I hope that will be enough, as the other top domestiques are trying their own elsewhere.

Quite an open race here, I'd say. Hopefully Gerts can make the best of it.

A bad clash for us, but maybe we can pull a miracle

Seems like I avoided Pedersen, Wisniowski but instead got the other big big names.
The number of 80+ here is bigger than in Battenkill.
Though top5 wanted here. Profile wise but also regional wise this was the option for Van Hooydonck and he gets the main support team around him. |

Thanks for the preview, Nemo!
All hopes are on Zepuntke here in his last points-eligible cobbles classic of the season, not only for this race but for salvaging the entire month. An 8th place would already be enough to double our points ... But that's also the best recipe to get really disappointed, so I actually expect him to puncture rather early, fall behind in the first selection and then Louvel finishes in 18th as our best rider.

We don't have a competitive cobblestone selection outside of C2, and we have a PTHC cobblestone clash to end. Glad this day will be over

Very hopeful for this one, eventhough we admittedly will need a selective race for Anderberg to shine. Hopefully he is able to make a difference and fight for the win! |

Not good. Not good at all. Stavrakakis and Cavagna had an awful performance and left Altur alone for Way too Long. 5th in the end also feels slightly underwhelming - and the combination of points actoss the double header is something like 50-60 points below the expected, which cuts deep into the cushion of the month.
That being Said we still sit comfortable after the entire early half of the season.

It wouldn't be a cobblestone race without a chanceless attack from De Witte, causing him to finish even behind Ndungu. 10 points out of this race though, so won't complain.
Congrats to Ollfardh and thanks for the report jph

Thank you for the report, jph
A podium is good! Hoped for the win, especially seeing how our team worked during the race, judged by the report and photos. We looked strong for much of the race, and managed to make use of the domestiques in attacking/covering early moves too. Good by Anderberg to position himself well for the sprint, even being much in front of the group in the photos. Feared he wasted much of his energy, but it proved just enough for the podium
Congratulations, Ollfardh! |

Congrats Ollfardh to a much needed win! And thanks to jph for the nice report!
Zepuntke in 4th is a good result for us after this month.

Oof, that's really bad from Gerts. At least Van den Berg slightly made up for it.

Top 20 McLay is good considering the lineup we've entered.
Thanks for the report

Van Hooydonck did fine by staying with the best without spending too much energy.
The group sprint had to be expected here, though while not his strength really, 6th seems decent in such scenario. Obviously always hoping for a bit closer to a podium with his main stat but any top5-10 is at least justifying his skill set.
Depth points were a few but unfortunately the team seems to work quite a bit for a 2nd tier favourite, so that many of them are missing the scoring in the end.
Thanks for the report and congrats to the winner. |

We've been screwed over by the AI a few times now, so I will accept this "sprint" win. Thanks for the report jph!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Great result by Teunissen in his home cobble race! And also nice depth scoring by Kubis and Horvat. Very welcome points.

Whiff on our goal here sadly, in general I have been disappointed with Kaspa this season and they way he's been handled by the game due to lack of challenging cobbles sectors across the PCT but that's not taking anything away from the report!
