Tour of America - Stage 14

Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/profile.png

Final stage of the race and it's another mountain one. Not nearly as difficult as yesterday or some past stages, but we want to highlight the final climb. The ridersĀ go up Engineer Mountain for the finish. Only 3.6 km, but with an average of 13.4%. That's the type of incline that can create big gaps.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0001.jpg

We expected a big breakaway group today again, but this is even bigger than we thought. The 23 riders here:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0002.jpg

We are 40 km into the stage. The breakaway has a gap of 5 minutes at this point. Gjensidige as expected is setting the pace in the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0003.jpg

Our breakaway starts the category one climb of Red Mountain pass with a gap of just under 5 minutes. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay has no serious competition in the KOM standings in this group, but a few points wouldn't hurt to make the jersey absolutely secure.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0004.jpg

We're on a flat section here half way up the climb and there are only 13 riders left up front. The biggest name in this group that's just been dropped is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Raileanu.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Bennett who probably should be the best climber here is gone. Also pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Penasa behind him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0006.jpg

The rider left up front are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitrago, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Fortunato, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Power.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitrago takes maximum points, but 2nd all but secures the jersey for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0008.jpg

The peloton being led by Gjensidige and Zwift are close to being 10 minutes behind the front of the race. Still 38 km to go, but this looks like a win for someone from the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0009.jpg

Our leading quatrro start the category 2 climb of Molas Pass. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitrago and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay are looking at huge GC gains at this point.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay accelerates which drops pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Power. The Aussie is very much a diesel climber so maybe he can come back if he can maintain a steady tempo and the others slow down?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0011.jpg

There is no contention for this KOM sprint, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay confirms his status as the polkadot wearer. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Power is far behind so it's safe to say he isn't coming back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0012.jpg

Gjensidige don't have the manpower to keep chasing and the other teams are not pulling as well. The gap is still at 8 minutes!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Healy pulls pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes away from the peloton and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak has decided to go with them. Guys, we need to see some racing here!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitrago and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay hit the steep slopes of the final climb and they're distancing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Fortunato.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0015.jpg

Even at just 10 km/h pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Buitrago is pulling away from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay, this is how hard this climb is.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak finally catches up with the Glanbia duo who have picked up pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Ciccone along the way. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman is now working in the group of favourites.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0017.jpg

Last kilometer for the leaders! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay is slowly losing ground to the Colombian.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes makes his move now and he appears stronger than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates is picking up the pace behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0019.jpg

This is the slowest race you'll ever see, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman is doing a terrific job for the yellow jersey so far. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes is currently about a minute ahead of them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Santiago Buitrago crawls across the line, but what a win that is for the Colombian! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay is 2nd, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Fortunato 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0021.jpg

It may not seem like it, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes has increased his gap slightly. We'll have to see how much time he gets at the end, but he's finishing 4th on the stage today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0022.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak in 5th will gain some time, but not sure if it's enough to make a difference for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson is 6th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Choi and yellow jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Santiago Buitrago wins the final stage of the Tour of America and after two consecutive days in the breakaway he moves up to finish 12th overall.
As we see the official stage result now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson was given a 5'' gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Choi, who then have another 6'' gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke. So what does this mean??

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0025.jpg

It means that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Sindre Skjostad Lunke is the 2025 winner of the Tour of America! This wasn't a flashy performance, but super consistent over 2 weeks of racing and striking a great balance with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman is what propelled him to this great victory!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/znf.png Matteo Jorgenson who was probably the pre-race favourite finished in 2nd place, only 12'' behind the winner. Two stage wins for the American, but one bad day proved costly and he couldn't recover all that time. Joining them on the podium is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Ki Ho Choi. He's no stranger to a close fought battle at the Tour of America, only a mere second behind Jorgenson.
The rest of the top 10 goes as follows:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Arensman was similarly very strong for most of the race and today did an awesome job to secure his teammate's overall victory. 5th place goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lot.png Vasyliv who was another consistent performer and really did his best work in the high mountains. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spr.png Misbah started the race slowly, but got stronger as it went on. 6th place is probably still a below par performance in his opinion. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates finished 7th, up and down race for him where he never really seemed to get going. 8th place goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Borisavljevic, he's a rock solid old school stage racer and that served him well. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes moves up to 9th. We just didn't see enough of him throughout the race, especially on the uphill ending stages. Last in the top 10 is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak. Given the length of the 2nd time-trial I think winning the GC was always a long shot, but he could've given it a go if he rode more aggressively as the race leader.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0026.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Victor Lafay rode with a lot of panache, especially in the second week of the race. He's very much a deserving King of the Mountains.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0027.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Mustafa Carsi put on the green jersey after stage 2 and never looked back. Those back to back wins put him in a commanding position for green. He was the fastest when it counted the most.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0028.jpg

The white jersey for best young rider was never in question. As soon as the road went up pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png Carlos Rodriguez was in white and the rest is history. I'm sure he has a fair few more of these in his near future.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S14/PCM0029.jpg

And finally we have to award the team classification and it goes to the home team pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png McCormick Pro Cycling. Some strong breakaway performances in the 2nd week really secured this victory for them.

Thank you to everyone for tuning into the first new 2 week Tour of America. I hope you enjoyed the coverage even if the racing was not always to your liking. If it's any consolation it wasn't usually to my liking either Pfft
