After a day in the hills the organizers decided to give the riders some well earned rest with a pan flat stage for the sprinters.

It’s not much in it for the break today, but four riders try their luck nonetheless. The gap went up to 5 minutes and now oscillates around 4’30.

Halfway through the stage the gap is down to 2 minutes.

The only intermediate sprint isn’t contested from the break. The gap is still at 3’10 with 39 km to go. The peloton still has all opportunities to rail them back in, but a surprise win is also possible.

But the break is soon caught and with 20 km to go a peloton of 88 riders is in the lead. With 12 km to go the split persists while the sprint preparation in the peloton is on its way. It’s essentially the same picture with 4 km to go. The dropped riders are clearly out of it, so we’re in for some surprise names in the top 10. That probably explains what the Grieg train is doing there despite not having any sprinter in the squad.
