Nice regional pickups!

Congrats on Donze and Aebi! They should have solid roles in the team for years to come. A couple favorable loan ins as well. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the rest of transfers.

Transfer Update #2 - New Strategy

Day 4 of transfers hasn't been a good one for us. All of our potential deals vanished, and we got outbid on all of our FAs - between 12 and less than 4 hours before the deadline.

And given that our strategy of "smooth rejuvenation" does not work out at all, we've sat down with our sponsors and agreed on a new approach.

Everybody finally agreed that our promotion to PT actually came too early. We didn't have enough time in PCT to build a sustainable PT-ready roster, and neglected some important rejuvenation during last year's transfers. Partially due to lack of luck, but definitely also because we wanted to try everything to stay in PT for another year.

Well, this approach has now been questioned, and we finally agreed that this was no good long-term strategy. Hence, it was decided that we'll do a "hard reset". Not quite as hard as it could be, but still.
It was decided that we will make all of our riders aged 30 and older available for transfers, and then see what we can do with the money. We will also accept swaps for riders younger than 30. The goal is to restart next year - in all likelyhood down in PCT - with a roster that won't need massive retouches immediately.

Hence, we're letting go of our ambitions to retain our PT spot next season - but we'll try to be back the year after!

We will hopefully be able to sign a couple of riders who will help us to get there, but we'll certainly find out more about that in the next couple of days!

Yep, but it would be even nicer if they were actually some potential subtop leaders or training targets Pfft

If the loan-ins are looking to be more useful than the new signings, something must be weird Pfft

"Solid", I guess that's the right term. Waiting for some more "flashy" ones, though - although with Schmid and Christen there should be a solid base for the next couple of years.

Nice first wave of transfers, including two savvy loan-ins. I'm with red though on your pessimistic outlook - I'll believe it when I see it and not one second earlier that you would have a poor season Wink

I'd really be surprised if we managed to hold the division once again! Honestly, I currently don't see a way that this happens - but transfers obviously aren't over yet...

Looks like I've got some kind of reputation by now
I think a lot would need to happen for me to not relegate this year, e.g. even more teams tanking for talents... In particular the cobbles are looking really awful, and there's no decent cobbler available out there, so... We'll see.

Transfer Update #3

Wow, what a couple of days these were! After our change of strategy and lowering demands for some riders, we really got plenty of inquiries - and subsequently several riders indeed left the team.

Departures

Currently still unsure of his destination, but clearly on his way out, is Colin Stüssi. After we initially had to accept a 750k offer for him, several managers joined what indeed became some kind of bidding war for him, raising the fee to 900k, one million, and then even 1.1k.
1.1k is still the currently highest offer - but purely in terms of cash, as we would get another rider on top of that. It looks unlikely that someone else would jump in offering at least the same amount of money and a better rider, but you never know...

We'll officially bid farewell to Colin in due time - he clearly deserves it, being our current all-time leader in terms of scoring. And sadly also continuing the tradition of leaving the team right after taking the lead, as the same already happened to Masnada last year, and Moscon the year before. Reinhardt was the only rider so far who stayed after claiming the lead...

We already told you last time that Cees Bol was on his way out - it is now confirmed that he will be riding for German CT team Kraftwerk Man Machine, who secured his services for a 660k transfer fee.

But there are also three more riders who have already definitely left the team. Szymon Rekita is one of them - the highest-scoring and most loyal one. Szymon joined us back in 2021 as a level 4 rider, completing his development with us. He then went on to crush the CT time trial events after our relegation, ending up 9th in the division.
Back in PCT, he even managed to outscore his CT season, with 2023 being his highest scoring year with 330 points. He struggled more in a very deep PT field last year, scoring more than 100 points less than two years before in CT. Which was the trigger to sell him - we wanted to give him the opportunity to again shine in the lower divisions.
This didn't quite work out, though, as in the end it were division rivals Sony - Force India who secured his services for a 650k fee - lower than we were hoping for, but we decided to let him go. At Sony, he might still learn some new things from Ukrainian TT legend Zmorka.
We want to thank Szymon for his loyalty - not many riders stayed for 4 years so far. He leaves us as the currently 8th highest scoring rider in team history and was an important scorer in the last couple of years. Thank you, Szymon!

Also leaving is Rekita's compatriot Krzysztof Marchewka, making our Polish TT duo a thing of the past - one we have great memories of, though!
Krzysztof doesn't quite have the same skills as Szymon, but he also got some great results down in CT, scoring 175 points that year - his best score for us by far, finishing 27th in the individual rankings. He has mainly been an important piece of our successful TTT puzzle for years, racking up quite some wins both in CT and PCT.
His individual highlight was a 2nd place in the 2022 Sun Tour's GC, after taking the same place in the decisive Stage 4 ITT - behind Rekita, nota bene.
However, with his now 32 years of age, we also wanted to give him a final chance of fighting for glory down in CT, and so we decided to part ways with him. Sadly, none of the CT teams were interested - and so he ended up in PCT with Zalgiris. We wish him all the best and hope he'll find his role - as a TTer, he's definitely a good fit for a TT-heavy team!

Finally - which definitely hurts, just like with Colin - we had to bid goodbye to Stefan Küng. Definitely not because of his skillset, never ever! But with him approaching the end of his prime, and given our strategy of rejuvenating the roster, it still was the way to go.
After unsuccessfully trying to sign him in our first four years of existence, we finally managed to buy him from Crabbe, who nowadays are Lotto-Caloi. He was a great rider for all those Hills-TT hybrid races, whereof there were plenty in PCT back in 2023. He took 10th place both in Norway and Denmark - but most importantly was an important factor in our TTT lineup, which won no less than four competitions that year!
And unless other riders who struggled after the promotion to PT, Stefan didn't; instead, he scored 80 points more than in PCT, with the absolute highlight being his 2nd place in stage 20 of the Giro d'Italia. And we will also miss him in special races like Arenberg, where he finished 7th last year.
Thanks a lot for your great services, Stefan, even though our common story only lasted for two seasons. If only you had joined us some years earlier... All the best for your future, riding for... well, for whom? Küng was actually sold to Zalgiris in a package deal with Marchewka - but it turns out their manager just saw him as a kind of "bucket list rider", and as soon as he had joined, he was already sent off again. What a shame for a great rider like Stefan - but we're happy that he'll definitely get more appreciation wherever he will end up now!

Arrivals

Because there's a minimum amount of riders any team needs to have, there also have to be arrivals when there are many departures. We have already welcomed two loanees last time, as well as two local talents - now it's time for the first rider joining us on a deal! Please welcome...

Jose Fernandes
RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Jose Fernandes71757077787776536267606877

Jose is a rider we already were eyeing last year, but didn't manage to get. And this year, it looked to be the same, as our early offer for him was outbid. But then, we got the opportunity to get him in a package deal - the same deal where Küng and Marchewka left. Zalgiris sent us over Fernandes and 200k in exchange for our two TTers.
While not quite as versatile as Küng, Jose is stronger on the longer uphills, and doesn't tire easily. He's just as strong against the clock, and we're hoping for him to score at least as many points from TT events as Küng did last year!
The main factor making us hesitate was his age, given that we were rather trying to part ways with 30+ aged riders. But in the end, getting a 30-year old rider for two 32-year olds was still a good deal, and we're happy to have him around for the near future!
Welcome, Jose - and hopefully you'll be able to make friends fast in our still existing TT department!

Given our new strategy, we didn't go hard on top FAs - but instead decided to go for local talents, even though they never will turn into world beaters. Three new Swiss talents were avaialble for a pro contract - and after Robin actually was among the very first riders signed, we can now welcome the other two talents! Here are:

Nils Aebersold
RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Nils Aebersold68656960696867606366656662
2028/29 69747761727274606373736763

While he'll never get to the level of Mauro Schmid - he neither has the physical condition nor the punch for this - Nils will still grow into a nice puncheur, who could either lead the line in a CT team or be a valuable helper - or breakaway rider - in the upper divisions.
We're not sure yet whether we will actually loan him out this year - it depends on our negotiations for other riders, but also for training facilities. So we're not sure yet we can offer him the best possible development path, even though we'd definitely like to. But we're sure that he'll learn a lot, no matter which team he'll be riding for!

Roman Holzer
RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Roman Holzer69626264676666647069656366
2028/29 77636365707078667676676470

Roman basically looks to develop into the successor of Manuel Stocker, who was with us for our first five years. He doesn't like ascending roads, that's pretty much clear - but he loves the flat!
And he also has a good sprint, and so we expect him to become an important leadout rider for Fabio Christen in the future. He won't be a great scorer - unless he does some breakaway magic, which isn't impossible with his skills on the flat - but we do need great team players as well! Which is exactly what we expect him to be.

All Swiss riders we've signed so far joined us for the minimum wage of 50k, thereby leaving room for other additions. We'll have to figure out how to make optimal use of our free wage cap... But we sure have some ideas! Stay tuned!

Transfer Update #4

It's already day 9, and a lot has happened. Things have calmed down quite a bit, though - but there's still some bookkeeping to do.

Departures

Colin Stüssi has definitely left the team now, and will most likely be riding for Indosat in his final prime year. The deal brought us more than expected - 1.1m in cash, plus a rider we will present later on.

Over the course of the last three years, Colin became our highest scoring rider in team history! He joined us back in 2022, right after our relegation to CT, when we brought him in very cheap from Team Puma - SAP; the Germans did however receive our TT duo Bissegger/Brunel on loan that year, hence the favourable Stüssi deal for us. Colin then trained a lot during the offseason, which resulted in him becoming the best CT stage racer of the year, winning the Giro del Trentino and ending up 2nd in Vancouver and in the Middle East. He won two stages, two points jerseys and a KoM jersey on top of his GC results - an awesome season!

In our 2023 PCT season, he also managed to win a stage - and had the team not completely messed up their strategy on the final stage, he might even have won the Tour of Britain... In the end, a great 3rd place in Tour de Romandie was his standout result, but 4th in the Tour de Vineyards was a strong result as well. He was also part of our dominant TTT outfit in some cases, adding a couple of stage wins with the team. Another highlight was an outstanding 8th place in the Giro d'Italia GC - his first career GT Top 10, but not his last...

Because in 2024, he displayed some truly amazing consistency! He didn't do many races - only five to be precise - but he got a Top 10 in every single one of them! Starting with the Copenhagen - Malmö TTT, then Paris-Nice, the Giro d'Italia, the Vuelta, and finally the Tour de Suisse! He scored more than 600 points and was our best points-per-wage rider - what an awesome season!

And now he's gone, sadly. We still regret this move, but we felt it was necessary to get the team ready for the next couple of seasons. We wish Colin all the best with his new team and want to thank him big time for his huge contribution - being our current #1 in team history just confirms how great he was! If he was Greek, these three years with us alone would have almost be enough for him to reach God level - over the course of his entire career, he definitely did!

The other rider to permanently leave us is Xuban Errazkin. The Basque puncheur joined us for our 2nd attempt in PCT, two years ago, in exchange for Gianni Moscon. Which may sound like a downgrade at first, but it actually was a success story! Xuban's versatility, including the TT bike, brought him a couple of nice results, most notably the 4th place in the Tour of Lithuania - our best ever PTHC stage race result to date! He was also 4th in his home tour, Euskal Bizikleta - and had the team not decided to drop him in the ToSA TTT, he would likely have won this race! His 9th place in Paris - Nice, where we participated with a wildcard, was another highlight.

Sadly, he didn't really live up to his potential last year, after our promotion to PT. On one hand, he simply wasn't our leader anymore, as this role was now taken by Mauro Schmid. On the other hand, the pressure might have been too big in the race that suited him more. He only managed to get two Top 10 stage results all year long, both in the Giro d'Italia - which was clearly below expectations. Hence, when he asked us to look out for a possible deal with a PCT team, we couldn't refuse to give him this opportunity to again rider on a level that's more appropriate for him.
He took off to Estonia, where he will ride for Bolt - Eesti. A nice 575k fee plus a rider - which we'll present shortly - came our way. We wish him and his new team all the best, and may he rock the PCT once again!

The final departure to talk about is a temporary one, as we agreed on a loan deal for Nils Aebersold. The deal hasn't been confirmed by the MGUCI yet, but there's no reason for it to not go through. Nils will therefore spend his neo-pro season with German team Kraftwerk Man Machine, joining Robin Donzé whose loan deal was confirmed earlier.

Arrivals

As per our tradition, we continue to be a reliable deal partner for loans - earlier in our history it was for neo-pros, nowadays it's for more advanced riders who need to get to race at the highest stage to finish off their basic development. Last year, Newton Foundation sent us Ethan Vernon on loan - this year, after being rebranded to Zwift, they "sold" us Canada's next TT hero on loan:

Tristan Jussaume

RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Tristan Jussaume70567377747368636065646777

After selling all of Küng, Marchewka and Rekita, our TT department needed some additional support again. Which is why we agreed to not take money for the loan this time, but to pay for it instead.
He should still be among the Top 5 U25 TTers of the division, with many of the future stars actually racing in PCT this year. So we expect him to get a couple of U25 points - less than Vernon last year, as the latter was stronger in prologues. But we're sure that Tristan will be of great help for our TTT lineups - and who knows, with his skills in the hills he might even get some surprisingly good results...

With our success in Free Agency being strictly limited to Swiss riders so far, the only other new arrivals come from deals - the deals we already mentioned earlier, for Stüssi and Errazkin. Both riders aren't really from our main focus region, but we're happy to have them nonetheless! Please welcome:

Muhammad Abdurrahman

RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Muhammad Abdurrahman68777272747474556068746472

Muhammad joined us as a part of the deal for Colin Stüssi, finally giving Indosat's combined cash/swap offer the edge over a pure cash offer. The Indonesian obviously doesn't come close to replacing Colin in terms of quality - otherwise he wouldn't have been included in the deal.
But he's still a very solid climber, and also somewhat decent in the hills and against the clock. We also like his fighting spirit and will be hoping for him to join breakaways in our GTs.
He's most likely going back to Indonesia for next year, so we hope he can enjoy his stay in Switzerland - and contribute a couple of points to our team!

Luis Fernando De La Cruz Chapulin

RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
El Chapu69697761757671646877776866

At first, we thought - wait, we're getting 3 riders back for Errazkin? Until we realized that it was "just" one rider, with one of the longest names in the peloton. Just like with Odie, we'll mainly use his nickname "El Chapu", as inspired by LPH manager Nemolito.
El Chapu clearly isn't a 1:1 replacement for Errazkin, as he neither likes mountains nor does he handle a TT bike. But he's got a great kick and a strong will, and so we'll see how that works out on the road!
He has just reached his full potential and is still U25 eligible - even though we had to find out last year that even for 79 puncheurs that doesn't necessarily mean any points... Just like Abdurrahman, El Chapu is expected to try his luck in breakaways - and obviously to support Mauro whenever both of them are in the same races.

At least one more announcement is yet to come, as another loan deal is underway - but we'll hopefully also finally end up signing some Free Agents. And secure a loan deal for Roman Holzer. And probably sell one or two additional riders. Stay tuned!

Transfer Update #5

It has been a rather eventful evening for us, whereof we'll present the details tomorrow when it will hopefully all be sealed. So it's a pretty short update today.

Departures

We can now confirm that Nils Aebersold will definitely be riding for German team Kraftwerk Man Machine this year, joining Robin Donzé for their first neo-pro year. We wish both of them good lock, a lot of fun and even more great experiences!

There will likely be more outgoing riders by tomorrow night, but we don't intend to do any more major sales anyway.

Arrivals

Finally! On day 10 of transfers, we finally managed to sign a Free Agent that is not Swiss - and that we've been chasing since day 1, making our first bid less than 10 minutes into the transfer window. At some point, it looks like we had a deal - before we ran into the PT winners who made him an even better offer when he already was on his way to our offices.

Well, long story short - he has finally signed, and so let's welcome:

Pablo Castrillo
RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Pablo Castrillo68737269727370575867687268
2027 v1 70787573767775575869697372
2027 v269787770747674575871737469

The reason we ended up spending a whopping 420k on him is that he reminds us a lot of team legend Fausto Masnada - a good climber with some TT skills and solid physical condition. And just like in our inaugural season when we secured Fausto, we bumped into someone else who was really interested - surprisingly, we even ended up paying 120k more than we did for Fausto!

But the fight is over, the dust has settled, and Pablo has arrived! Being already 24 years old, he is basically one year behind all other talents born in 2001, meaning he'll have one year less at his prime, sadly. But we will definitely enjoy his skills once he gets there - and we believe he could also rather easily be trained to be a really cool stage racer!

For now, he'll try to get going, and he's a bit sad that Errazkin is no longer with us. But we're sure he'll quickly adapt and develop into a great rider - and maybe even end up as a team legend as well, just like Fausto did!

And then, we also wrote the final page in our long 2025 transfer history chapter with Kraftwerk Man Machine, striking deal #5 with them and welcoming another rider:

Jason Osborne
RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Jason Osborne75607074737467655863776275

Jason actually is already a very experienced rider, being 31 years old. We are glad to be able to offer him the possibility to reach his maximum level, which he will then hold for one season. Jason provides us some additional depth in races against the clock, and in particular in the shorter ones.

We're also confident that his fighting spirit combined with good speed on flat roads will be helpful, be it for attacking or chasing attackers.

So that's a total of 4 deals with Kraftwerk; Donzé and Aebersold will ride for them, whereas we take on Uhlig and Osborne. Deal #5 - the only permanent one - concerns Cees Bol, who will try to bring them up to PCT again!

We would like to thank manager DaveTwoBob for the great partnership during this transfer period, and wish him and his team all the best!

That's it for today, as the roster looks to be more or less finalized...

Expensive signing in Castrillo, but he is very good and of course doesn't need a loan out which makes things easier. In hindsight I probably should have gone for him Pfft

Glad that Abdurrahman has joined the Jura Juggernaut alongside his fellow countrymen Setiawa and Rohendi - cool that you now have a little Indonesian contingent within your squad. I have a feeling he'll be well taken care of.

We're pleased to take in Stussi. He has such a long history with you, and had such a great season last year - especially his two GT performances. Very nice write up about him Smile

And Castrillo is going to be a bit of a gun once he's developed - glad he has made to you guys.

Transfer Update #6

It's a special update today. We're only talking about departures. And even just about loan departures. But there's still something spicy in it. Let's find out more...

Departures

We did it! We found a home for all of our three Swiss neo-pros, which will allow them to gain a lot of experience at an appropriate level! After Robin Donzé and Nils Aebersold joining Kraftwerk, we have now sent Roman Holzer, designated leadout rider for Christen in the future, to Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh, who are covering his wage for the season as well.
So far, so normal and boring. But if you took a look at the loan deal, you certainly spotted the fee - instead of the mandatory 200k, we sent a whopping 650k over to Kenya! No, not to save a prince, but with something in mind...

Which gets clearer when you look at our second loan deal. As far as we remember, it's the first time that we actually loan out a maxed rider - but it's exactly what we did with Stefan Bissegger! He joins Roman at Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh - but why would we do this to the Swiss ITT NC, one of our signature riders?
Well, because we weren't sure we could afford the best training facilities for him. However, combined with Simba Cement's investment, we can! So Stefan will get some great training out there in Kenya and return at the end of the year - stronger than before!
So yes, we're weakening our TT core for the season. Yes, we're giving up on the points he could potentially have scored. But we feel that in this transitional year where we'll likely relegate to PCT anyway, it's definitely worth it to get back a stronger rider to attack next season!

We would like to thank Simba Cement's manager Caspi for the agreement, that was actually concluded within less than an hour. Simba Cement get a potential Top 5 TTer (as there currently are just 4 stronger TTers in PCT than Stefan will be), and we get Stefan back stronger than before!

That's it for now. However, this arrangement has cleaned up some wage cap, and we also do have some spare cash now - so expect us to remain active in the market, waiting for the unexpected deal that could still improve our team!

Seems like we have built a certain kind of reputation by now Wink
But yeah, José is exactly the type of rider I love - too bad in hindsight that I haven't signed up for Slovenia this year Wink
Really happy to have Castrillo, even though he was definitely more expensive than expected. But well, we're shaping the future now, so hopefully he will be worth this investment!

sammyt93 wrote:

Yeah, but it was a long wait... In particular the overbid with less than 4h to go sucked, but there have been far worse situations for other managers...

Once I really pulled the trigger and accepted lower fees, yeah, it became hectic. The result might be the worst PT team ever, but we'll live with that.

Looking forward to see what Abdurrahman can do, he'll definitely do more than one GT. We weren't lucky with mountain breakaways last year, maybe he can find the perfect recipe?

Take good care of Stüssi - and he'll deliver once again! His history with me actually is just 3 years - but it's a very rich history indeed, and I already miss him... It was the right call for my current situation, though.

Oh god, you're so modest Smile You said the same thing last season and did very well - If you want to see what one of the worst teams ever in PT looks like, go download the 2020 DB and look at Indosat - 3rd worst team ever. Big difference Smile

Glad that Abdurrahman will be going to a few GT's, would love to see him do well. Hopefully not in front of Frankiny, of course Smile

Transfer Update #7

It's another short update today, with only one rider involved:

Arrivals

Finally, reloaded! More than 11 days after the opening of the transfer window and our first bid (which came after 55 minutes), we finally secured a rider who people will probably also label a "perfect fit for Jura". It's the only transfer to be announced today, and it's another expensive one, so let's dive into the details without further ado:

Diego Agustin Ferreyra
RiderFLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPR
Diego Agustin Ferreyra72727278727474546869736877

Not only were we chasing after him since day one like Castrillo, we also ended up having to offer him the same wage - a whopping 420k! Which really is a lot for a TTer.

But Diego isn't just a "normal" TTer, he's one that looks very similar to Stefan Küng, except for the cobbles part, as he absolutely hates those. But he can perfectly handle some climbing, be it short or a little longer, and this will hopefully help him get some extra points compared to pure TT powerhouses! Whether he's worth the huge wage or not, we'll find out during the season. But as said before, he's just a "perfect fit", and we do hope that this will also be somewhat reflected in his scoring!

This might actually wrap up our transfer season. We currently don't have another FA bid pending, and we don't have a ton of free wage cap anymore, either. There are still negotiations going on in the background, though, and maybe we'll still strike some deals. We will soon find out, as only 2.5 days are left in transfers Smile

You call it modest, I call it rather realistic Pfft I do believe that we're pretty clearly weaker than last year, and in particular Theuns' points cannot be replaced at all. But it's fine. The focus currently is on developing Swiss cyclists as well as we can, not staying up at all costs - but even if we go down, I'm pretty confident that next time we'll be in PT, we'll be there to stay a bit longer Smile

Very surprised with the Bissegger loan out but if the plan demands it, then it makes sense!

Yeah, that definitely wasn't the goal... Selling Chavanne for the initial asking price would have been enough for not having to do this, and I genuinely still don't understand why no CT team would get those +/-100 points for a relatively moderate fee.
With the deal, I can achieve all of my training targets, so I'm still more or less fine with it - I doubt it would have changed a lot for me if I had trained him myself...

Dylan Page has probably told some good stories of how well we treat Swiss riders on the team Smile

You mean, like selling them after a good year? Pfft But yeah, given his success I suppose that your treatment indeed was good, so hoping for the best for Stefan and Roman!

Really pleased we were able to work together so well this season and manage to make deals that benefitted us both.

Great to see you managed to find a way to get Bissegger trained even though he needed a trip to Kenya to make it happen!

After Masnada alone didn't succeed in keeping you up last year, let's hope that the combined (ex-)Jura forces of Masnada, Bol, Donzé and Aebersold will bring you back to PCT! Smile

I've said it a few teams but i really grew to love the JURA team last year and i really like what you've done this season in bringing a youth movement in and helping to train some swiss riders (with assumed training to come) should make for an exciting team hoping you stay up could be an incredible base next year

Ferreyra was among my top picks from the FA, as he would have been a very nice supplement to Kiriakidis and Ioannidis, but it was quickly easy to see that it was not meant to be.

In the end quite a bit overpriced, but he's very cool in terms of the next couple of seasons.

Ferreyra was a genuine option for me as ell, but he went beyond what I wanted to pay for him quite fast. High price for quality I guess. Should be a good addition for you Smile
