Stage 4 Report

Stage 4 of the Tour of the Middle East will be the decisive stage. 114k finishing with the long HC climb to Jebel Shams (25k at 7.2%). Before the finishing climb there are two Cat 1 climbs and a Cat 2. There is also a single sprint point.

1k left to climb. Only 4 riders remain up front â€“ Rochas, Chamorro, Bernard and Majoral. Newton has the whole team on the front of the peloton and are keeping the gap under control, 1â€™01 right now.

81k to go, the descent is complete. The front 4 are back together with a lead of 2â€™06 over the peloton. All the rest of the original break have been caught except Borg who is 36 seconds down. Madrazo is on the move. So far he has made it half way across. Bernard is just 20 seconds down on GC, as he was in the front group yesterday, so the break wonâ€™t get that much leeway.

73k to go. Madrazo and Borg join the front of the race although Borg looks in trouble. Strangely Newton have gone back to chasing and have the gap down to 1â€™36. Duvel the other team near the front.

Bernard rolls across the sprint point in first reducing his deficit to 14 seconds. But Duvel and Newton have the gap down to 1â€™06. Borg has been dropped and is almost back in the peloton. 67k to go, 5k to the first Cat 1.

The riders chasing arenâ€™t strong climbers and with 5k to climb the lead is back to 2 minutes. The climb is 9.1k at 6.8%.

Manfredi makes a half-hearted attack in the peloton a short while later but is quickly shut down.

3.2k to climb, Madrazo canâ€™t hang on. He did a lot of flat road on his own and he isnâ€™t as strong as he used to be.

At first Jorgenson chases but then decides to sit down and the lead rapidly goes out to 53 seconds. Still 5.8k to climb, a game of chicken has started in the main chase group which has swelled back to 24 riders.
