Tour of Tasmania
Stage 3
Howrah – Hobart ITT – 19.0km

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/01.jpg

The favorites list is as expected led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen has ridden a flawless race so far and just needs to win the time trial to take home the crown basically, although there are a few riders with a few seconds advantage. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Würtz can obviously grab the drown too, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Ganna are outside shouts. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka sadly lost time on Stage 2, meaning today’s race is just for stage glory for him.

Reporters note:
Spoiler
Rider names, intermediate times, finish times, and all text were blacked out during reporting due to an unknown graphics error. All timing had to be pulled from results post stage, causing an inability to gauge rider by rider standings throughout the stage and catch pictures of all standout performances.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/02.jpg

The first two major TTers to go off are Tinkoff Team – La Datcha’s duo of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Goldstein and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Yatsevich (seen here). pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Yatsevich grabs a time of 20:43 while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Goldstein stops in at 20:42 to clock two early good times. A great sign for the team to start the day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/03.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Gonzalez Salas takes on the course for Fastned as another one of the amazing time trialists that sadly major time on stage 2. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Gonzalez Salas steps in for 20:41 and new best time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/04.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Rekita for Jura GIANTS is another great pure time trialist who is more than 5 minutes behind. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Rekita takes a time of 20:41 for the Swiss team known for the TTs. In positioning, he slots in just short of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Gonzalez Salas.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/05.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka is the first of the true stage contenders to hit the course. A bit of a loss on stage 2 means GC is completely out of the picture, but a good result here can absolutely come. His time 20:29 is good enough for a fantastic overall stage finish. That leads the day for now, but how long can he hold on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Lammertink is another rider who lost some group on the earlier stages and will be disappointed not to be able to contend for a top 10 GC position even though he has strong prowess against the clock. His time is 20:47 and a tad disappointing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/07.jpg

There’s a long gap between pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Lammertink and when the top 75 riders in GC go, the marker which indicates those who haven’t lost time, except the bonus seconds. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ldl.png Thomas is the first of those riders and a strong TTer himself. He finishes with a time of 21:09 which should be a major disappointment for himself. He opens the door for many to take the GC lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/08.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Mullen is the next of the riders who is able to compete for the stage win on his best day. He sits tied in that major GC group and should be able to guarantee a top 5 stage and GC position today. He puts down a great time of 20:34. That’s 2nd place at this point behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka but worth the GC lead for now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Bissegger also represent the Jura GIANTS and was able to stay in this major GC group. He powers to a time of 21:05. Again, not the result expected of himself.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/10.jpg

UK Champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/yor.png Hayter will also compete for a top position with a strong result for cycleYorkshire. He earns himself a result of 20:38. That should more than hold up for a good GC position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/11.jpg

After decent results by their teammates, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Geoghegan Hart also appears ready to run a top spot. An average ride puts him at 21:06 which will leave the Cedevita management scratching their heads just a tad.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/12.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Ganna represents Xero Racing as their best chance at earning a 2nd stage win, although he’s certainly an outside favorite against those still to come. His time is only 20:49 and nowhere near as competitive as expected.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/yor.png Oliveira is another cycleYorkshire teammate ready to push for a great result. His strength is on the TT bike but he managed very strong results across the other stages as well. On this solo effort, he clocks in at 20:41. That should be good enough for top 10 on the day and a top 5 in the GC if things hold.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kng.png Mano represents the final 15 athletes left to go and boy does he have a great shot at a strong result today. A good ride for the man from King Power. 20:42. Just behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/yor.png Oliveira on GC should still be a strong result for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/15.jpg

When you see the World Champion’s jersey on the startline in a TT, you expect them to be the full favorite. That isn’t 100% true today with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Würtz, as he holds 2nd status behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen. Still, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Würtz is putting forth a fantastic effort to set a new standard. His time… 20:40. 11 seconds down behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka on the stage and behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Mullen! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Würtz will not win the Tour of Tasmania.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/16.jpg

4-time defending champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney is immediately next off the podium, on same time as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Würtz and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen. He’ll need a spectacular performance today to take the GC win, but if anyone is motivated, it should be the American. His time… 20:51 is 22 seconds behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka, the current leader and 17 down on pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Mullen. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney’s streak has come to an end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/17.jpg

Now today’s favorite, and the best rider in the field – pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen. All the pressure has been on the EA Vesuvio rider’s shoulders since the race started and it must be tons of nerves running through his veins. He’s the last rider on 0:20 behind the leaders at the start of the day, but that shouldn’t be a problem. His time slots in at 20:36 which means pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Mullen should be our winner in GC and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka survives unscathed for a huge victory from the early starters. Just a few sprinters and punchers remaining without TT prowess.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Tasmania/S3/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Areruya and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Abdul Halil started the day on equal time and 0:20 better than the strongest TTers, while they are some of the worst on the list. It’s a rough day for them both. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Abdul Halil clocks in 2:25 behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/oxf.png Zmorka and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Areruya at 1:51 down. Both moving far down the list today, but those bonus seconds will surely help their GC positions as a big number of folks struggled today.

The organizers refuse to share podium pictures, but up on top of the GC podium is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Mullen. An awesome surprise win after pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen stepped in as the early favorite. Let’s take a look at the full results!
