Rider Development - Part 1/2
We have fewer riders developing than in most previous seasons so we can take care of the development announcement in two parts. Here we'll look at riders that have either reached or a year off their potential.
Santiago Buitrago | Pot: 5 | Age: 25 | Lvl: 4.100 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 67 | 76 | 74 | 66 | 69 | 73 | 74 | 60 | 65 | 78 | 74 | 67 | 66 | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 67 | 78 | 76 | 66 | 70 | 74 | 76 | 60 | 65 | 80 | 76 | 67 | 66 |
It's been the same development plan for Santiago from start to finish. At a time there were some thoughts of maybe developing him into more of a puncheur. But with the team currently in PT hopefully his focus on being an explosive climber ends up being a good fit. He should have solid enough recovery to take on 3 weeks of riding in a Grand Tour.
Matevz Govekar | Pot: 5 | Age: 24 | Lvl: 4.73 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 70 | 68 | 73 | 60 | 70 | 73 | 67 | 58 | 69 | 74 | 70 | 70 | 67 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 71 | 71 | 76 | 61 | 71 | 74 | 69 | 58 | 69 | 76 | 73 | 71 | 68 |
Young Govekar is growing into a fast finishing pure puncheur type. Longer climbs aren't really suited to him, but this year he tried his best to improve on that aspect. He's fairly far into his level 4 so we might have an option to see him finish his development somewhere else.
Kristjan Hocevar | Pot: 5 | Age: 25 | Lvl: 4.62 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 66 | 72 | 71 | 61 | 66 | 66 | 66 | 54 | 66 | 73 | 69 | 69 | 62 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 67 | 75 | 74 | 62 | 67 | 67 | 68 | 54 | 66 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 63 |
This was Hocevar's first full season with us. He is developing like Buitrago, as a punchy climber. He's likely to be a supporting rider in the future, but he should have the ability to go hunting for KOM points. He's another one that due to his level could finish his development elsewhere.
Fred Wright | Pot: 4 | Age: 25 | Lvl: 4.58 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 71 | 68 | 70 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 68 | 68 | 70 | 70 | 74 | 66 | 68 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 74 | 69 | 71 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 70 | 69 | 71 | 72 | 76 | 67 | 69 |
Fred continues on his path to become the most versatile rider we've ever had. We primarily see him as a classics rider, but he could also slot into a sprint train or be a stage race domestique. We could see him go out on loan, but more likely he stays with us and gets more experience against the best competition.
Veljko Stojnic | Pot: 4 | Age: 25 | Lvl: 4.18 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 71 | 66 | 67 | 71 | 71 | 74 | 70 | 56 | 67 | 69 | 72 | 65 | 73 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 72 | 68 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 76 | 72 | 56 | 67 | 70 | 73 | 65 | 75 |
This was Veljko's 2nd season in PT since he was actually there on loan as a level 1 rider. That experience surely helped him this year as he had quite a productive season. He's a solid breakaway rider and should slot into our time-trial core as he maxes.
Stay tuned for part 2 where we will look at the progress of riders that are still two or three years away.

Buitrago as a local LPH/OXF rider is fun to follow, Govekar is yet another very nice local talent for you, but the star of part 1 for me is obviously Stojnic. We loved having him over last season and it's nice to see him developing that well

I don't think it will be that much of a surprise for either rider.

Indeed, Stojnic actually outscored every other talent on this list which is not something anyone would expect.

Wright is a really cool rider, could be a lot of fun at the latest when he's maxed, maybe even now already. Buitrago obviously the standout, could become a really strong rider with some training!

Love the path for Wright. Not necessarily the one I would have picked, but everyone loves those 70+ everything guys
Buitrago is a top class development, and then some unmaxed riders waiting to punch their way into leaders roles next season. Very solid build!

I'm not sure if I'll find funds for Buitrago's training, but it's certainly a possibility. No idea if he's gonna be any good, but I pretty much got Wright just because I thought he was cool

I could've gone in any direction with Wright. Not sure I made the correct decision, but all 70+ main stats seemed a lot of fun
Buitrago is nice, but this is one of the weakest development classes for me. Makes me think if I wanna go talent hunting again

Govekar getting ready for his battles with MVD in the future
Buitrago should be a good sub-top leader already. Really strong set of talents in part 1 itself!

Rider Development - Part 2/2
All of the riders that we will talk about here spent this season on loan. Dorde Duric was at Fastned while the other three were all at Genii Hyundai N Cycling.
Dorde Duric | Pot: 2 | Age: 24 | Lvl: 3.96 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 68 | 60 | 69 | 60 | 71 | 72 | 69 | 71 | 64 | 70 | 65 | 71 | 59 | | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | | 2024 | 69 | 60 | 70 | 60 | 72 | 72 | 69 | 72 | 64 | 70 | 66 | 71 | 59 |
As mentioned Dorde was on loan at Fastned and got to experience being part of a promoting team. He also got to learn from a top cobble specialist like Van Hooydonck. He's a low potential rider, but the idea is that he develops into a solid domestique for the cobbled races.
Husein Selimovic | Pot: 3 | Age: 23 | Lvl: 3.08 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 70 | 68 | 69 | 60 | 71 | 72 | 70 | 62 | 65 | 73 | 72 | 68 | 66 | | | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 70 | 71 | 69 | 60 | 72 | 75 | 72 | 62 | 65 | 75 | 74 | 71 | 66 |
Selimovic produced arguably the best season of any rider we ever loaned out. He was a constant attacker in stage races, gathering many sprint and KOM points. We expect him to stay with us next season so he will face a big jump in competition. But we hope he can keep up with his attacking style and we'll try to utilise him in that manner.
Aljaz Jarc | Pot: 4 | Age: 25 | Lvl: 2.99 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 69 | 63 | 66 | 63 | 67 | 68 | 68 | 68 | 67 | 69 | 72 | 68 | 63 | | ↓↓↓ | | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | 2024 | 70 | 63 | 66 | 63 | 68 | 69 | 68 | 69 | 68 | 69 | 72 | 68 | 63 |
Similar to Selimovic, Jarc was mostly used for breakaways. He still managed to score a few points for Genii. We're still not sure if we're going to develop him more as a rouleur or cobbled classics specialist, but the latter option is surely appealing as we slowly grow our local classics team.
Aleks Bechkov | Pot: 3 | Age: 25 | Lvl: 2.99 | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FT | DH | PR | 2023 | 67 | 66 | 64 | 69 | 66 | 66 | 65 | 55 | 63 | 60 | 70 | 66 | 68 | | | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | | | | ↓↓↓ | 2024 | 67 | 67 | 64 | 70 | 67 | 67 | 66 | 55 | 63 | 60 | 70 | 66 | 69 |
The last rider on loan was Bechkov. He was not as active as the other two at Genii, but to be fair that's not really his forte. Over time he should develop as another cog in our time-trial unit.
This wraps up our rider development. Only one rider maxed this season in Buitrago with four others reaching level 4. In total 8 of the 10 stat gains are from regional Balkan riders. We knew talent development on some levels would become more difficult as a Pro Tour team and that has certainly been the case. Still we are satisfied with what we've accomplished here and so are our sponsors. Here's to more of these posts in the future!

Selimovic probably won't repeat his performances from the 2023 pct season in PT this year, but never say never. He's definitely a special one, and I also like to see Duric growing better, indeed looks like a very solid future cobbles domestique.
Also have to applaud you for slowly letting Bechkov and Jarc develop, the Balkan region can only be happy with someone like you who constantly finds a way to develop local talents.

I hope Buitrago can show off his explosive legs this coming season

A big thanks to all our loan partners who really did a great job giving experience to all those riders

Nice bunch of NCs captured by the team's riders. Let's see who sticks with the team to show it off!
