With such a big group finishing together, we could well see a UBS 1-2 with Jura in 3-4-5, which would be a massive result for both teams. Although I guess both Schelling and Schir are liable to lose the wheels of their teammates in the time trial, with how strong those are. That should be near impossible for Stüssi and Darbellay, but did Masnada have that issue, too, at some point? I seem to remember, but might be wrong.

And also, Glanbia could well place Main in the Top 5 as well, which would give them a much needed boost. I would assume the other teams are fighting for the backend of the Top 10, but who knows with team time trials these days. Maybe Campero's bonus seconds are even enough to land him near the top, if the time gaps in the TTT are low enough. Really nice win for him either way, congrats Sammy!

Oh wow, didn't expect Main to finish with the leaders. Looked like he might even be in a smaller winning group at one point !

Interesting TTT ahead...have one weak link but hopefully he'll be dropped immediately

sammyt93
Wow what a stage, strong ride from Campero and loads of riders up there backing him up.

I'm now less worried about dropping everyone out of GC contention in the TTT seeing as we had 5 riders in the leading group, just need to hope our time isn't too bad to lose out to those in the group 39 seconds back.

quadsas
Decent stage, but gaps are too small to expect top 10 in GC, or even close to that really. Ill be satisfied with Losch stage win and points jersey, thats all

No cuts is rough and basically means that we don't get a GC result here. Thanks for the report!

Great stages so far and a pleasure to read. Getting to see Siriwardena in his beautiful Sri Lankan championship jersey was fantastic!

Couldn't be happier that Reguigui and Siriwardena were in group 2 and should move up with the TTT. Even Oka is in shouting distance of the final GC scoring places. Alarcon will still likely lose too much time, but it was fun to see him alongside the leaders as I expected when he was signed.

Congrats sammy and thanks to Ulrich for the reports!

Gall staying with the front group is better than what he did in some other races, also the white jersey should be safe. We'll see how selective the TTT will be and if a Top 20 in the GC is within reach.

Congrats to sammy, fantastic depth result for you there! And as cunego said, maybe the TTT gaps will be small enough to get him the GC win?

Not really happy with the stage results, was definitely hoping for a smaller front group. That would've meant losing Darbellay, but also less competition for the top 10 spots in the TTT.
Now, basically anything can happen. Schelling or Schir would have been the favourites in last year's version, but with the "new" TTTs I'm not so sure about his chances. It could also be Main, with Glanbia having the 2nd best TTT in terms of Top 5 riders.
It could be one of the Kraftwerk riders; they actually do have as strong a TTT core as I do, just slightly falling off on the last 3 riders (due to Zabel). Will be a tense fight for the team standings win!
Or it could be Stüssi, Darbellay or Masnada winning the race - really not sure what to expect. I'd definitely be disappointed with something like 8-9-10 in GC, but this race just can end up like this.

But for now, I just hope there won't be any additional random splits on a flat stage tomorrow, I've already seen too many of them this year...
Ah, yeah, congrats to Kraftwerk for the green jersey, really smart strategy by Zabel! Wish one of my riders was as smart for once Wink
Actually weird to see the yellow jersey - and a teammate of the number one stage favourite - in the breakaway, don't remember I've ever seen that - Kraftwerk magic Wink

That's not correct, he never lost more than the odd 1-3 seconds due to not being among the first 5 riders. However, he's unfortunately well known for missing out on splits on flat stages, which he did both in South Africa (which he might have won otherwise) and Slovenia (giving away a Top 15)...
While there might have been a chance of him being dropped in other TTTs, he definitely shouldn't be here, given that our Top 3 TTers are in Germany and he's our #5...

Wow I thought Stage 1 would be my highlight, but again Oka comes through for us! Another great sprint being able to hide in the pack until the end. '

Hoping we hold our own against the better teams in the final stage. A top 5 would guarantee a couple depth GC placings and continue our streak in the TTTs.

Congrats to JEWA TIROL - always like seeing a surprise breakaway take the W.

Congrats Blasing for a nice stage win! I could have lived with the entire break surviving, but Russell in the break again is fine anyway. A shame Baudin misses out on a point in the KoM classification by one spot, would have been a nice reward for the good work of our stagiaires here. So now it's all about not losing too much time tomorrow so Gall can snatch a Top 25 in the GC - and maybe we can distance Aebi to get some more U25 points out of the race.

Wow, didn't expect this, great work from Lyvins!
Exciting report and a good result for a C1 race, this certainly helps in the fight for promotion!

Coutinho finally shows up only for us to be unable to catch a break :/

Grats blasing!

I just hate sprints... Bol has become completely useless, and I've got no clue why. I mean, a 76 sprinter (Oka) gets two stage podiums and three Top 10s, while Bol (79 Spr) just gets one. Even Morin (69 Spr) got a better stage result - what is wrong with this AI??? Guess it's not just the top sprinters that aren't worth throwing any money at anymore, even a measly 79er just keeps on failing in most of his races...

Well, at least there weren't any splits, so everything is still on the card GC-wise. But this definitely should have been a far better race in terms of stage results, just sucks.

Nice! Unexpected result from the Main Man, that life support machine keeps ticking away..

Thanks to Ulrich for the (always) great reports and congrats to UBS and JURA on a monster haul too- sorry to get stuck in the middle of the Swiss party!

hillis91
Underwhelming results i would say, on our end.
Eitherway, Thanks to Ulrich for the amazing reports, as allways and congrats to UBS and JURA for a great end to the race.

Main, you mean party pooper Pfft
Guess it would've been kind of historical to have an all-Swiss GC podium, but it wasn't to be. Guess I'd have needed at least one of my Top 3 TTers to be here as well - but the GC win would've been out of reach anyway with Schelling (surprisingly) keeping up and having the bonus second advantage.

Massive congrats to Bushwackers on this awesome result - maybe a PCT Top 10 isn't out of reach after all? Well doen also to Glanbia; would obviously have preferred taking that final podium spot, but it's the climbers' fault of not having made the race harder on stage 3. Clearly wasn't expecting a 75 climber to finish in the top group, but he did a great job and will bring you a bit closer to safety Smile

I'm once again not happy with the stage result, we're really "just" getting GC points lately, almost no stage points. Losing out against UBS and Glanbia is fine, though, both had better Top 5 riders, which I guess is what matters most in TTTs. Finishing behind the Turtles is disappointing though, as we were stronger (on paper) in all metrics. But well done to them, always love to see a CT team being successful in TTTs Smile

Although a GC podium would've been nice, I'll definitely not complain about our GC outcome! We got the massive depth result I was hoping for after seeing the startlist, with all three climbers keeping up on stage 3. I guess we were lucky to beat Kraftwerk today, otherwise we'd have ended up with 8th to 10th which would've been underwhelming alongside no stage results. The win in the team standings obviously is a great bonus; not worth many points, but pretty prestigious, and only our second one this year Smile
Kudos also to Stefan Küng for finishing 18th in GC, certainly a great result for a 70 climber!

So, I guess our luck is kind of back, despite missing out on stage results and a GC podium - but getting great depth and surprising stage results in Germany definitely makes up for that!

Thanks for the reports, and congrats again to UBS for what's hopefully a great start for a strong final dash until the end of the year!

Overall I'd say this was a good stage race for us, given the fact that it was C1.
We won a stage, got 5th in points, 3rd in mountain points.
We didn't send our best guys to race there, so even more surprising that we got some points out of it!

I was nervous for this one with the talk of Schelling being a favorite at the start. He did great to put himself in contention in the mountain stage and the team sealed it in the TTT (so glad they didn't drop him!) I see this as likely the last great result of his career but so thrilled he has been able to go out with a bang. The 1-2 with Schir is also totally unexpected and a cherry on top.

Congrats also to MacC for Main's huge ride and to Fab for the nice point haul. Hopefully it helps in the push for the title. And thanks Ulrich for all your hard work with this one.

Congrats to all the Swiss and Irish teams and thanks again to Ulrich for the great reports!

We leave the race with the white jersey, a GC Top 25 and 20 points quit which is about what we could expect and makes this our best race since Osterreich - which once again says more about our last few months than about the success in this particular race. But we were in all breaks and the youngsters made a good impression, so everything's fine.
