Just a quick post of the Boys in Green 2023

Analysis to follow....

Basically we got Eastman and everything else had to play second fiddle

I guess you basically sum it up pretty well Wink
Eastman and your TTers will have to work really, really well to give you a small chance of staying up, I'm afraid. Your TT department obviously is top-notch as always, probably even stronger than ours (in terms of pure TT speed), signing Eastman and Eaton plus getting back maxed O'Loughlin. And the PCT calendar definitely allows for getting great points from TTs. But will they be enough?
Kennett and maybe Bennett should contribute a little as well, but especially on the hills you'll just be relying on breakaways. Wonder why you sold Teggart tbh, should've done great in C2.

I wish you all the best for the 2023 season, and I sure hope you find some magic to surprise everyone again Smile But realistically, I feel like your lineup isn't ready for PCT unfortunately.

I do indeed fear relegation is a possibility here. Feel free to prove me wrong with some glanbia magic Smile

Big love for investing in (Irish) youth as well. Some very interesting riders I think, all at a nice 50k wage.

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't think you've done enough.

Eastman is great and the TTT is nice, but you're lacking another mountain or hill leader to really give you a shot at survival.

Have to agree with the others. With a secondary focus of Kiwis and Aussies should have been possible to land some somewhat interesting subleaders.

It's a mightly likeable teambuild though, but you'll need for Eastman to have the season of his life to build a survival shot I'm afraid.

I love the nationality focus on your team, quite jealous about it Pfft
I have to echo the others, it will be a tough year.

But you never know, all the best mate!

Kennett at 100k is awesome. And this team is more than just Eastman! Look at ... ummm... ermm... you gave Eastman good TTT support Pfft

But of course I applaud and fully support any team that sticks to their focus. You're gonna be able to sell Ryan next season for some solid money, so it's not all doom and gloom. And hey, maybe Eastman will be enough, we've seen more surprising things happen in the MG.

Well, the first reviews of the 2023 Glanbia season and they are not great!

They may have a point

True happiness comes not from the amount of points you score but from the style in which you score them. As always you were true to your roots with the Irishmen and the TTers. And darn it, the Americans.

I cannot agree more with this statement. If you face relegation or not I am not the one to say it, but as Jim Bishop said: “God invented whiskey so the Irish wouldn’t rule the world.” Smile
I still love these Irishmen riding together though. Good luck in the new season!

Thanks everybody, and big thanks to all the crew behind the scenes during transfers, hope I wasn't too big a pain! And thanks to anybody I negotiated with, regardless of outcome!

I won't make excuses (except for this one) but it's clear I wish I had had more time during the transfer season

It's clear it will be , cough, a "long hard season" but it should be fun at least.

The positives:

Eastman brings us up a level like Talansky did last year. He will surely be competitive wherever he goes

Kennett seems a good sprinter for those wages and will hopefully deliver some results

I finally feel like I don't have an old team and should even be able to field a full Avenir team this year, delighted to have Ben Healy and Archie Ryan at an Irish team

The TTT set-up is solid but not spectacular

Negatives:

With only 40 RDs Eastman alone can do only so much....

and he will be alone a lot with very few teammates for the mountains (but does that matter?)

Yes, we have Youth but they are hardly future world-beaters, most are destined for domestique roles

I missed out on a really top 80/81 TTer and that hurt my plans a lot

Likewise having to sell Teggart to balance the books torpedoed my tokens cobbles team plan...

The planning is complicated and important but Glanbia are determined to Time Trial our way to a few more surprises this year

and @Ulrich come on man, I've only 2 Americans! That reminds me we are glad to welcome our first South Africans

Fair point. And I only have 1 Sean, and he is a loan in.

James Oram presents his NZ TT champion jersey designed by the brilliant Hillis

Jordan Cheyne will compete in this Canadian jersey for TTs too, also by the House of Hillis

And of course most importantly of all, as already noted, Glanbia retain the NC jersey for Ireland which this year will be worn by Seán McKenna

The goals for Glanbia in 2023 have been announced. Underying them was a number of factors:

roleplay- "home" races given priority, suitability- trying to play to our strengths, and finally we had to take into account that we weren't going to be very good.

This last factor arguably created a doom-loop of self-fulfilling pessimism leading to terrible outcomes but that's just fancy talk.

The goals themselves seem attainable but only because they are so unambitious.

Obviously, we eill be looking at Eastman for California, Kennett for Rás and to get a number of Stage Wins and then our TTers to do the rest.......simples

Nemolito
I like the nc's Smile California should be very doable for Eastman and I'd love to see you win Isle of Man. The stage wins might actually be the hardest one, as twelve stages is quite a lot I think.

Love the Kiwi NC shirt, should definitely stick out Smile
I guess we should have a good fight in the Isle of Man TTT - I would obviously love to win it, but losing it to you would be no shame I guess Wink
California should be a doable goal for Eastman, although I guess that S7 could still do quite some damage if any strong puncheurs are present...
Your home race will be a lottery, let's see if Kennett can hit the jackpot in what I expect to be one of the - if not THE - most competitive sprinter field in a stage race all year long.
The team standings goal means you'll have to leave 4 teams behind - which I hope you'll do (5 would be better, though), by once again surprising everyone with your great TT core Smile

Ulrich Ulriksen
Eastman, Powless (I assume that is who MRE intends for that goal) and McNulty all to Tour of California with a Top 5 goal. Good news is we can all be successful. Regardless though will be great to have all the top US stage racers competing. Boswell along for the ride with McNulty because of Stage 7 but if it plays out like last time it won't end up being selective among the top GC guys.

No mention of the ToA for Eastman - already looking like a great field, I am hoping he is coming to join the fun.

Ryan Eastman's limited race days meant tough choices. Going for Tour of America was the toughest choice, probably not the smartest in terms of pure points but in the end roleplay trumps all

California is a top 5 goal but man the competition looks fierce

AbhishekLFC
ToA definitely limits what Eastman can do this season, but with a good race there, it can very well go in favour of you. Not sure about Pro Halstatt and San Sebastian though.
