Ivaneurope Sports and Entertainment Group, or IESE Group is a professional sports and entertainment company, formed in 2022 by ivaneurope to manage his various ventures in various sites and forums. Among IESE Group's properties in PCM.Daily include the following subsidiaries:
IESE Group MGUCI Team - the name of their MGUCI subsidiary (and the subject of this thread), currently operating as Genii Hyundai N Cycling
IESN (Ivaneurope Sports Network) - the production arm of IESE Group, currently specialized in primairly compiling preview analysis for some races. Though not having a reporting production crew, IESN has expressed some interest in being an reporting affiliate

Alright then - it has been confirmed that we will be going back to the PCT division for the 2023 season. This will be our second attempt here after a not so great first try few seasons ago. Some of the old managers know our story, but for the newer ones here's what happened last time:
We signed a rider with dismal TT who failed to perform in our priority races, we got relagated, THE END!
Except, that's the very short story and really our poor first season is more than just "Rider X couldn't get the job done" kind of stuff. But rather it was a mixture of factors. For starters, we weren't prepared enough for the responsibilities in the PCT - we've finished 8th in CT in 2019 which meant that to promote we needed at least 3 teams that were going to be in either PT or PCT the following season to withdraw. Only one team withdrew (Kulczyk - Alitalia) meaning that the 6th placed team gained additional promotion spot, but since Bianchi - Campagnolo also withdrew, that invitation went to the 7th placed team - DK Zalgiris. Behind the scenes however there were some issues regarding Netia - Vonin (finished 4th in the CT standings) with the team withdrawing completely. With us being next in line meant that we will be going PCT for 2020.
Howvever, as I've said we weren't that prepared not just for the fact that our promotion invitation was given on short notice, but given that for the past 4 seasons we were conditioned to the CT calendar structure it really hit us hard. One of our goals got pretty much erased as we didn't get the PTHC band the race was in and therefore we've had only 4 goals compared to 5. That's the thing with PCT - unlike the CT or even PT divisions PCT didn't had guaranteed races back then (still don't have) as the PTHC and HC races are paired together in a series of bands with nearly identical total RD and a priority list has to be sent. Since we've messed up our choices, our calendar was a strange mish-mash of races + few PT wildcard races (yes, we dabbled in PT races as well, because why not).
Those wildcards - Paris-Roubaix, Amstel Gold Race, Rund um Köln and Giro di Lombardia, also exposed our roster construction. Our "go-to rider" that season in Georg Preidler took part in 2 of those races and while he finished in Top 20 in Lombardia, it was a disaster in Amstel Gold...and in other important races where we've added him as our designated leader. Hong Kong Challeng hurt the most - 2 stage wins and his poor TT brought him down to 3rd. Leopold König did had some decent performances here and there throughout the season, but even he wasn't very near the top riders in stage races. Alexander Kristoff was our main sprinter, but considering that sprints were an enigma, luck wasn't on his side either and he didn't really do much on cobbles (he was acquired from Indosat to be a sort of combo rider for sprints/cobbles). The rest of the roster couldn't help that much in our struggle for survival despite their efforts and we've ended up 25th - second to last. Only Campari - Asahi had worse PCT season.
Back to CT it was. Normally, a relagated team would bounce back and gain a promotion spot for the following season. Alas, that season while it wasn't that bad (we've had worse seasons during our formative years) it was...average at best, mediocre at worst. Despite winning the Monterrey TTT and Uppsala Classic + some valliant efforts from new acquisition Bakhtayir Kozhatayev in some stage races, 11th overall was the best we could've done. And we have to remember that this was when the CT division was at it's lowest turnover which made that 11th place finish sting even worse. But as I've said - we've had even worse seasons.
And back to the drawing board it was. Last transfer season we've acquired lot of veterans which may or may not have implications down the line, but it was our best season. We've defended our Monterrey win and went even further by winning the higher level Windhoek TTT. And we've won our first cobble race during the first few months in Geraardsbergen-Bosberg. And we've got taste of Grand Tour racing (sorta) by entering Tour of America, though our squad wasn't built for GC aspirations. And this was enough for 6th. Yet again, we fell short. And then, the bombshell fell when Isostar - the dominant force in PT for the last 3 seasons, have decided to call it a day (by that we mean the entire franchise, owned by Croatia14). And as sad their decision was for us as both francises entered in 2016 and had really great relationship during transfer seasons, it presented an opportunity - as a PT franchise was ending, an additional PCT team will join PT and likewise an additional CT team to PCT. And just recently this has been confirmed by the MGUCI with our franchise returning to the second tier for the first time in 2 seasons.
Well, here's hoping that the lessons from our past experience have been learned and here's hoping that the second take on the PCT is more successful and much longer from the previous one. The road is going to be tough - our fellow promotion pals from Jura, Glanbia, McCormick, Colombini, Tryg and BNZ also have their own aspirations in the division. There are also the teams that had remained in PCT that want to do one better. And then we have the relagated from PT teams who hope they can bounce back into the top tier. This PCT season is going to be great.

Interesting to read the team's history. I think with those experiences, even if they were bad, you seem a lot more equiped for PCT as a manager. It always is a challenge teambuilding wise going up to PCT (unless you've built like McCormick or Jura, and even then), so I'm curious how you'll approach this.

Love a good team (and disband-promotion in general  ) history post and excited for take two of the PCT. I know you will have learned a lot from that season and the intervening years and interested in what you do to make this stay in the second tier a more successful and longer one. And also in who you choose to use from your CT base.

Honestly, I thought you'd have automatic promotion in the bag - before Tryg started their insane end-of-year campaign. But great to see that you still made it (although obviously regretting the disbands). As you say, you have surely learnt some valuable lessons in your first PCT stint (as I have as well, hopefully), so no more throwing tons of money at a Preidler-like rider I guess 
Really looking forward to see how you tackle the build-up for PCT. Given the age structure of your roster, I could see a full rebuild happen, although you obviously have some cool riders like Kozhatayev or Ahmad Zamri who might be worth keeping. Will be interesting for sure - all the best for transfers & the 2023 season!

2023 offseason - renewals edition
Hello there. First of all, I'd like to thank each and everyone for the kind messages - it means a lot. Now that we've been given green light to make our renewals updates, here's our renewal activity:
Yoan Kolev - 50k
Kolev had a really good debut season in the MGUCI circuit and we really see the value in his development. Therefore it was a no-brainer that we will reatain him for next season, though we may consider loaning him out if it is required
Bakhtayir Kozhatayev - 150k
Kozhatayev in his second season couldn't muster a stage race win, but was by far the most consistent one in the races he was entered, finishing 2nd overall in Catalunya and played a piviotal role in both TTT race wins. Retaining him was also paramount and we've done it on the same wage as last year. For now our plans for him aren't really clear given that PCT is a different beast and for the stage races we may need a bit of an upgrade (we can't talk about transfers yet)
 Muhamma Afif Ahmad Zamri - 60k
Malaysian TT champion Ahmad Zamri wasn't having that much noticeable season, but he was one of the pillars in the Monterrey and Windhoek TTT wins. His other noteworthy accomplishments were a Top 10 GC finish in Herald Sun Tour and a Top 3 in KoM in Tour of Chile. We've decided to retain him with a small decrease of his payday
Flavio de Luna - 55k
'Flash' de Luna had a really great year for his skillset. Apart from the Mexican TT NC win, he finished 5th (and best of the CT riders) in the Tour of Britain and was also instrumental in the TTT wins. Despite starting his decline, we've decided to keep him. Some would say 55k is a bit too much, but 5k isn't going to hurt that much.
Tomas Paprstka - 70k
Geraldsberg-Bosberg winner Paprstka was our only winner on a cobbled race/stage. It was a decision between him and Andrew Fenn and in the end we've decided to keep the younger Paprstka. He is the only true cobbler to remain with the team as Chequan Richardson was also released. The bright side is that we've retained Paprstka on the same payday as last season.
Momchil Robov - 75k
Robov took a step back this season and didn't really had much going on for him other than a stage win in Tour of Chile and nearly winning the Points Classification as well as fighting tooth and nail to retain his Bulgaria NC RR win. A salary decrease was on the horizon and he agreed on a 15k pay cut.
Valentin Stoenchev - 60k
Robov's decrease was Stoenchev's increase. While some may disagree giving Stoenchev (a TT only specialist) that much, but he was part of the TTT 'dream team' and has been with us since 2018, so this is more as a reward for his longtime service with us.
Siim Kiskonen - 80k
This is where many will say "you've overpaid him massively", but I disagree. Kiskonen had just recently maxxed out after a stint with Moser-Sygic and is still relatively young with strong stamina, resistance and recovery stats (he has 5 stats with 77). Sure, he may not be a top choice for a sprinters win, but he has his value.
As you can see, we've retained only 8 riders in the renewals. Unfortunately there were some cuts. Matthias Brändle was one of them - while we were more than happy to have him back, it was simply too much of a risk given his age. His compatriot Hermann Pernsteinner was also let go despite his late season surge. Tormod Jacobsen was another casualty as were CT draft selectons Polychronis Tzortzakis and Martin Tusvjeld. We've already mentioned Fenn and Richardson, while after a really poor season, the team had decided to part ways with Max Losch as well.
As a result we have a pretty much healthy cap room which has to be used during transfer season. What is in store for us though - time will tell.

As people have pointed out it's a slim team going up but there's so much you can do promoting CT to PCT that it's no bad thing to go up with a lot of room to play with!
