[PCT'22] HelloFresh - Lampre Talents
jandal7
Eye catching jersey for sure, parts I love and don't love but I have a feeling it might grow on me, especially if Rowe and Meurisse do some cool things in it Wink

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

@KaiserAdler: It is indeed very flashy, and I have really grown to love it myself already. We should be very easy to spot in the peloton that's for sure!

@lief: It's Fresh for sure! Likewise looking forward to seeing what the CT teams in general can bring to HC and C1 this season!

@Jandal: I do understand where you're coming from. Hopefully Rowe and Meurisse will help win you over tho Pfft

January Review: Boy oh Boy are we actually good?

Start to life in the PCT has been nothing short of a wild ride, let's look at what has transpired so far.

Down Under Classic

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/hc_duc.jpg

We started our season in Melbourne in the DUC where marquee sprinter signing Peter Kennaugh perfomed well and secured us a 2nd place behind CT sprinter Lachen Saber.

Tour Down Under

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/top_australia.jpg

We continued our racing by going to Tour Down Under where we went stage chasing with Kennaugh but we did once again fall short of snatching a win, however we did get two stage podiums from sprints with Kennaugh so overall a great start to life in PCT. We did however get to experience Meurisse acting as leadout for Kennaugh instead of trying to create results for himself.

End of season preview!

As the season is coming to its end we find ourselves in a position where we can potentially push for promotion if everything goes our way! We are one of the teams with the lowest RD spent in the top. Will not discuss Balkans as that is currently in motion!

Tour of Middle East

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_tome.jpg

This is a race where we hope that the form that Potocki is showing in Balkans will transfer and thus leading to a top 10 finish for some ranking points. Thwaites will also be unleashed to try to take home the victory on stages 1 & 2.

Expected Points Yield: 30-40

Bayern Rundfahrt

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/t0_bayern.jpg

Absolute nightmare for us to go for this race. We were chasing a stage racer for a while but didn't land one. Elissonde is not here so the mountain stage is not a contest for us. And none of our sprinters are here to chase anything either. Massive blunder in my planning.

Expected Points Yield: 0

Tour of the Battenkill

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_battenkill.jpg

We have four PTHC races left this season, all of them classics. The first one is Tour of the Battenkill, a race which we won in our first season with hometurf hero Tyler Farrar snatching a surprising victory. Due to a clash with Rheden due to how our bands panned out we have had to split our cobbles delegation. Max Daniel leads GVK and the main cobbles setup of our squad in a race where we need the depth points as we have Rowe on Rheden duty, more on that in a bit. It is not a parcours that really benefit Daniel but we believe this is the best way to split it.

Scorings wise this race can be either amazing or very middling for us. As we saw in Cheshire earlier this season it can all go very wrong very quickly, where we only scored 18 points.

Expected Points Yield: 50-150

Rheden GP

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_rheden.jpg

A race won by a mix of sprinters and cobbled riders over the course of the last few season Rheden GP is our final foray into the cobbles this season. We come here with the aim of placing two riders in the top 10, hopefully either Kennaugh or Luke Rowe can snatch a podium. Rowe in particular has performed well here in the past.

Expected Points Yield: 50-150

Milano - Torino

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/c0_milanotorino.jpg

We return to C1 racing with a race in the Nortern parts of Italy. The goal here is for Meurisse to perform to the best of his ability and hopefully snatch a top 10 finish. There is not much more to expect from this race since the startlist is most likely really stacked.

Expected Points Yield: 20-30

GP Lugano

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_lugano.jpg

Another race clash. A race that has been won by punchy sprinters primarily, we take a chance by sending Kennaugh here and hoping that he will survive. A strategy that almost worked in Frankfurt.

Expected Points Yield: 0-20

Tour du Maroc
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_maroc.jpg

Elissonde's time to shine as we go to Northern Africa for some great racing. We raced the first edition of this race in 2018 with David De La Cruz as captain and got a stage win with Ribakov as well. With it being an HC race we know that the startlist will be strong. There's no TT which is much to the benefit of Elissonde who might be able to find some of his form from last season as he has been missing for most of this season, due to tougher fields and races that doesn't suit him well. Despite two flat stages we did not find enough RDs to have a sprinter here, which will hurt our scoring significantly.

Expected Points Yield: 50-100

Japan Cup
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/c0_japancup.jpg

Our penultimate dance with the PTHC this year is going to be Japan Cup. A race we actually have pretty decent memories from. Dyrnes finished fourth in our most recent PCT season here and in 2018 we put two riders in the top 10 with the likes of Davide Villella and Laurent Pichon.

For this edition we bring Meurisse free to do his thing and hoping that he can copy some of those performances from those riders. But the field is tough and if we put him in the top 15 that's a success.

Expected Points Yield: 20

Euskal Bizikleta

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_euskal.jpg

The Basque stage race was raced as a C2 race last year and won the legend himself Marko Kump. Kumpi no longer races for us but we still come here with high hopes. This is a clash with our last PTHC outing of the year in GP Cyclistes and we have chosen to put forward Meurisse in the C1 race. We think that he can mix it here and will produce more points with a solid GC position. It is a race that we could see Riesebeek work his magic like we saw him do in Benelux Challenge.

Expected Points Yield: 40-80

Grand Prix Cycliste
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_canada.jpg

A home race for us but this time around not a priority. The clashes means that we won't have a strong team here with Elissonde and Potocki being our go to guys for a result.

Expected Points Yield: 0-10

Giro d'Emilia

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/c0_emilia.jpg

As is tradition the season is finished across the divisions with a hilly classic. We come here with high hopes for Xandro Meurisse to do the impossible and create a great result for us.

Expected Points Yield: 20

Thanks for reading, looking at these points total I am not overly optimistic when it comes to use securing promotion. We should however managed to secure our top 10 standings goal!

Got some very important races coming up, that might lead into promoting. Wish you the best of luck, and would be happy to see you second in Rheden and Cyclistes after lone victors Zepuntke and Kelderman Smile

Goal Review:

With the season concluded it is time to look at the sponsor goals that we set coming into the season. Our goals were really ambitious and safe to say we somewhat paid the price!

Team Standings - Top 10

This was achieved and looked all but secured very early into season as we had a flying start. However towards the backend it looked semi shaky for a moment but we prevailed and finished 9th!

Despite some somewhat unfortunate races from Kennaugh and a few misses from Daniel this is the first time that we achieve a rankings goal in PCT, and also funnily enough the first time we do not relegate straight away!

Criterium du Dauphine Libere - Top 5

We had some very different goals going into transfers than what we ended up with, we couldn't find a GC rider to get the support of Elissonde and Potocki, so this goal was a bit of a washaway before the season even started. That doesn't mean that Dauphine was a disaster of a race though! Dzamastagic raced to a top 3 stage finish on stage 6, Elissonde followed that up with a 3rd on stage 8 and Hermans spent a few days in the polka dots. Overall a solid race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/PTHC/Dauphine/S6/20230222231651_1.jpg

Cheshire Cycling Tour - Win

We came with a win goal but left with a 18th place despite trying to animate the race. But we knew that this wasn't the parcours for Max Daniel and while we were not happy with the result we understood why it occured.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/04.jpg

Benelux Challenge - Win

A race that we love is the Benelux Challenge! And the race loves us back, even though we didn't get GC victory we produced a great result netting an incredible 322 points from a single race! We won the teams competition, a stage won in great fashion by Luke Rowe and placed 4 riders in the top 15 of the GC, with Riesebeek's 4th place in the GC being the best of the bunch!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/HC/Benelux/S5/40.jpg

Tour of the Battenkill - Win

A race that we have won once before, how hard can it be? The answer is very difficult.
Max Daniel rode to his abilities and finished 13th in a strong PTHC field backed up by good depth scoring across the field. Although we had hoped for more!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/PTHC/Battenkill/Images/PCM0014.jpg

Conclusion:

While we only secured one goal straight up, the season has been a massive success, with us defying expectation where most previewers had us all the way down in 15th. Thanks for a great season and thanks for reading!

Always hard to pick goals when you don't know what your team will look like, but I think you had a great season finishing 9th Smile

With the way things are going you may even end up in PT Pfft

As redordead said choosing goals in a promotion year sucks - I remember when I stupidly picked almost all cobbled goals then ended up with two 75CB guys as my leaders

I agree guys, picking goals is always a difficult task but I aimed for the stars to raise funds to stay up, now we will see if we get punished come next season when budgets get handed out! FWIW we had a few different cobblers on our list before Daniel that would have had an easier task achieving our goals. Obviously the Dauphine one was always going to be a white arrow Grin

The final goals outcome might not be perfect, but HelloFresh definitely scored by conquering a lot of new fans' hearts with some attractive racing and a solid top-10 finish. Unless he gets sold, I'm already looking forward to the Daniel vs. Zepuntke duels next season!

Yep I am overall really happy with how this team raced this year, in particular Quinten Hermans who ended up scoring almost 200 points on 50k, I expect that he wants a big upgrade in renewals.

In terms of Daniel vs. Zepunkte you never quite know what happens in transfers but that would for sure be a great battle to follow next season!

The Italian Talents!

Samuelle Battistella | ClimberV1

While the Italian did miss out on one year of development we still believe in his ability to be a long term successor to the likes of Adam De Vos and Joao Gaspar in our team once he is fully developed. This year he will be moving from level 3 to level 4, and is most likely going to have to spend the next year on loan in the PT.

Fillippo Baroncini | Stage Race & Time Trial
FLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPRXPAgePot
2022706369686972686366707169661.0224

2025756575747478726367727570724.Max254
I believe that Baroncini is going to be an integral part of this team's long term success. With a unique skill set he's going to be able to chase stages, act as a TTT piece as well as a hills helper once maxed. This season we're not expecting a whole lot from him but once he maxes he will be one to watch!

Jonathan Milan | Track TTx2
FLMOHITTSTRSRCCBSPACFGDHPRXPAgePot

2025775863777280696374736664794.Max254
Milan is another piece of our TTT train for the future, he will also be turn into a strong prologue specialist with potential on certain stages to score us some good points. Should be a great little utility option!

As a summary we're very happy about these talents, I havent been this happy for a set of talents since we had Vlasov on the team 4 years ago, with the newfound Italian focus that I will unveil in the future, the three riders from this batch are for sure some we're looking forward seeing being the core of our team for many years to come! As always thanks to knockout for the forum coding tool and I also copied his formatting for this post.

Not the largest group of talents but nevertheless some really nice ones. Especially Baroncini looks great but the other ones are also very useful multipurpose riders

Yeah I haven't really had a focus on signing riders that weren't ready-made until last season where I made a conscious decision to focus on more on bringing in the biggest Italian talents available. If that focus will be as present this year in transfers time will tell as a rebuild is on the horizon that could leave space for some targets to start building a pipeline of Italian cyclists!

Baroncini is by far my favourite piece of the puzzle, his versatility makes him a super intriguing option as we start planning for a world where we are in the PT and have GTs and other races to attend!

Talent posts are always fun posts. Seems like you have three very different kind of talented riders, all Italian, which is great to see. A shame Battistella missed out on one year of development of course, but I'm sure you'll continue your hunt for Italian talent and one day get an even bigger fish in your pond Smile

Getting bigger Italian fish into the pond is for sure a priority that we need to think about. Also Battistella losing a year of development is for sure not ideal but he's still going to fit greatly into the mold of De Vos and Gaspar next year!
