Colombini Cycling
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for our new thread. We're in the PCT now, earlier than anyone has expected, but an exciting time is upon us now! In the coming time, I will flesh the thread out more, depending on the free time I have. For now, a few reserved spots and a more detailed description of the project(s) involving our team will be added. Stay tuned!

Colombini Res Publica
As most of you already know, since I have talked about it plenty of times before, Colombini is no longer about 'just' San Marino. Our regional focus was never really regional, more an ideal or a project. Quite early in the life of our team we had already decided to focus on other Micro Nations in the area. San Marino was the main nation in that focus, resulting in three riders permanently joining the team. Federico Olei, Andrea Aquilani, and Stan Martino. Luigi Giulietti would join us on loan to take our Marino tally to 4. Daniel Bonello, and Felix Sprenger would push the Micro counter to 6. Which all things considered, a focus of 6 out of 20 riders isn't bad for us. But of course, we want to build on that.
That is where the new project comes in to play. With our promotion, we have a bigger budget, and that allows us to broaden out the focus. Instead of the three countries we chose to focus on before, we will now focus on micro nations across the world. But not just those with the correct land mass or population. Countries that are considered dwarves in the cycling world need some help too after all.
That's also where our African focus comes from. This huge continent is rich in diverse people who are capable of great things, as seen with Saber winning the individual rankings in CT last season. Although our focus is 75% Micro nations and 25% Africa we wont follow it to the letter. Instead building a 'regional' team that is capable of winning. How much we love the nations and regions we will be focusing on, We love winning more. We will not sacrifice succes for regional riders, as that would be against my own nature. So from this season, we will invest in the best of the best riders who apply to the criteria of our focus, intending to win promotion once more, to the PT. Only then we can efficiently use the biggest budget available to train and develop new talent.
And that's the new project so to speak. I intend to build a team comprising of 75% riders who apply to the focus region, and the remaining 25% are not at all bound to those terms. Some of you can already imagine we will be knocking on your door come transfer season.
Thank you for reading my gibberish, I had promised a better explanation some time ago so yeah. Theres a possibility we might change our name and primary nation, but I'm not set on it yet.
See you later.
Adler

Welcome to an exclusive interview with Colombini's Team Manager Adler Aquilani.
Mr. Aquilani, first of all, congratulations with your team's promotion to the PCT in it's first year of existance. Does this come at the right time, or was it a surprise to you aswel? -
Thank you, we worked very hard to achieve what we have. It wasn't a surprise at all really, we planned for promotion and executed the plan accordingly. Some teams build a team for years and reap the rewards after some time and that's a respectable approach, but I'm aggressive, a real Blitz tactic of signing riders we believe can get it done and support them with our amazing staff.
A firm belief in your own abilities, I see. What are your plans for the new season, with a bigger budget and more possibilities for the team? Do you intend to try and battle against relegation first and foremost?-
I have big plans for my precious equipe. I can't disclose everything, but I intend to be as daring as I was last year. But before any business has been concluded I want to stay modest in my quotes. Ofcourse the primary goal is to stay in the PCT at the minimum. As a sort of rivalry with our fellow countrymen, Sauber, the goal is to finish above them and be the best team in San Marino. After that... world domination ofcourse
And last but not least, what will happen to culthero Saber? Will he stay or will he go?-
Without disclosing any contract renewal information I can tell you this. At the end of the transfer market, Lahcen will most likely not be wearing our green jersey. Wether he signs a contract with a new team or is sold, he has been pretty clear on his intentions to stay in the CT division. Last year he was able to revive his career, and with his age coming into play he doesn't want to risk it in the PCT again. Therefor, if he extends his contract, we will look for a CT team where he can finish his career. For the right price ofcourse. His decision is final, and as a hero of our team we will ofcourse respect this. His influence on this team is immense and I will love him dearly for it.
Thank you for your time Mr Aquilani, and thank you all for reading! We will be back with more Colombini news in the coming weeks, as the runup to the new season speeds up! This was yours truly, Pissez Neffest Depotte with your latest news!

I'm curious how you'll rebuild your roster without Saber (the one way or the other). Best of luck for the transfers and of course the races too.

In the realm of cycling, a team so bright,
Colombini rises with pure cycling might,
Led by Manager Adler, wise and bold,
Their prowess and grace, a story to be told.
With wheels that spin and hearts that soar,
They conquer cobbles and mountains, forevermore,
In unity they ride, a force so grand,
Guided by Adler's skillful hand.
At the helm, a superstar they claim,
Saber, the legend, who rides to fame,
His pedal strokes, a sight to see,
Through trials and triumphs, he sets hearts free.
From local races to the global fight,
Colombini shines in glorious light,
Their hard-earned promotion to PCT,
A testament to their tenacity.
In jerseys of pride, they take the stage,
A team united, bound by courage and sage,
Through challenges faced, they stand tall,
Colombini, the greatest of them all.

Handling ageing leaders is always tricky but I think it's a good choice for both sides to keep Saber in CT. Transfers will be a big challenge for you, of course, given you promoted mostly on Saber's back and now won't have him anymore. But you have some cool pieces and I don't doubt you'll be aggressive in your pursuit of your targets especially given you'll have probably like 3 or 4 riders with a wage of over 50k on your team (excluding Saber). I'm already quite intrigued where and how much we'll clash given your new part-African outlook

@kandesbunzler I'm probably as curious as you are. To replace such a dominant force will be a big task for sure. I wish you good luck too!
@red go big or go home right but don't jinx me just yet
@Nemolito legendary poem, I hope to prove the last line true some day. But not yet!
@Ezee Tastes like salt
@cunego I knew Saber was a one way ticket, he delivered the goods and will always be remembered. That said, I love a challenge and it'll be a crazy transfer window once again. I hope we won't clash too hard, but I guess it isn't inevitable that we do bump into one another at some point.

The Great Big Renewals Show It's time to discuss our first renewals as a team. And lets see who made the cut, who got a decrease and who got an increase in wage. And maybe more importantly, who did we cut from the roster?
Nat. | Name | 2022 Wage | 2023 Wage | Difference | Available? | | Lahcen Saber | 310.000 | 280.000 | - 30.000 | Yes | | Loic Vliegen | 70.000 | 85.000 | + 15.000 | Maybe? | | Yves Lampaert | 70.000 | 80.000 | + 10.000 | Yes | | Federico Olei | 55.000 | 50.000 | - 5.000 | No | | Dries De Bondt | 50.000 | 50.000 | | No | | Carlos Betancourt | 100.000 | 70.000 | - 30.000 | Yes | | Darius Dzervus | 50.000 | 50.000 | | Yes | | Alain Quispe | 50.000 | 55.000 | + 5.000 | Maybe | | Kenji Itami | 50.000 | 50.000 | | Yes | | Abolfazl Gilanipoor | 55.000 | 0 | - 55.000 | | | Andrea Aquilani | 50.000 | 50.000 | | Never | | Felix Sprenger | 70.000 | 50.000 | - 20.000 | No | | Oskari Vainionpää | 0 | 0 | - | | | Stan Martino | 50.000 | 50.000 | - | Never | | Daniel Bonello | 50.000 | 50.000 | - | No | | Richard Laningo Laizer | 0 | 0 | - | | | Ben Turner | 70.000 | 50.000 | - 20.000 | Yes | Netto gain | - 130.000 |
I think we can all agree this round of renewals was pretty succesful for us. We could've chipped away more from Saber's wage perhaps but oh well, wasn't worth the risk of losing him without a transfer fee! Even without counting the release of cult hero Gilanipoor we managed to gain some wage cap from our remaining riders.
Although we kept all but 3 of our riders, we will be cutting the bulk of the team. New division means new standards alas. Gilanipoor and Laizer are old men by now, and this ain't no country for old men. Personal favorite Oskari (I wonder why) isn't up to par yet compared to the possible replacements we are eyeing up. If our market goes tits up we will be sure to reconnect with the happy Fin, untill then good luck!
Saber as discussed before has chosen to stay behind in CT with one of the (new) teams there. And long story short, all the others branded as 'Yes' except for Ben Turner are just too old now. Had we stayed in CT they might've remained with us. But for now we are looking to sell them on for a pretty penny. Mr. Turner hasn't developed as we wished and we will look for a new forever home for him.
As for the others, National Champions and the youth of our target regions! Ofcourse they will stay. It will be another wild market for us, but I like it that way. I hope to have many talks with all of you, and see you August 11th!

Going to be one of the most active teams in transfers it looks like, selling off a CT roster and adding a complete PCT one?
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Nice jersey! And luckily for you that you're in PCT and not in CT, otherwise I would've beaten you without any doubt.
No no, al jokes aside. All the best for this season and hopefully we'll see a lot of wins by Colombini in this beautiful jersey this year. |
