New Riders Suggestions [2023]
Nemolito
Transfer season is still a bit ahead of us, but that doesn't mean there's no work being done behind the scenes. One of the things being worked on is the scouting and rating of new talents, which is being done by Sotd, Ulrich, Eden and myself. I can already say that there will be at least one rider among the talents from everybody's primary and/or secondary nation.

In this thread you can suggest new riders and/or stat adjusting of certain riders. Some things to keep in mind:

Young Riders

2001 is the main year of interest, with some 'forgotten' talents of 2000 also to be added to the game.

Riders from 2002 could be added too in some individual cases, but it is highly possible be that they are held off for another season. There would need to be a very good reason for a 2002 rider to already be accepted. These will also be limited to progressing only to Level 2 in the 2023 season.

Older Riders

Riders who are free agents, or part of disbanding teams, can have their stats adjusted - even if sometimes it is just in a minor way.

Examples in the 1998-1999 range are of particular interest, as they can become 'talents' that are not Level 1, which allows more unique stat combinations. Riders of 4.100 can be added or adjusted too.

1990 or older are generally off limits, since these riders have already started decreasing now anyway. However, in special cases an exception may be made - for example, for riders without a Man-Game "history".

Stat Limits

You can suggest riders with any sort of stats you like. However we reserve the right to make whatever changes we see fit to better suit the game. Do not expect any unknown rider to max out above 79/80. Your stat suggestion is very important for us to know what kind of rider you're talking about, but don't be disappointed if a 79 rated mountain-suggested rider turns out to be 75 in the DB.

Realism

MG doesn't need to be 100% realistic on stats of riders. Real life results are a useful indicator, and many riders will tend to be aligned to that, but they are not a constraint.

This also extends to rider Nationalities. If you want a Tibetan or Tuvaluan you can suggest them, and we will see what we can do to accomodate your teams needs.

As mentioned before, at least one rider from every primary and/or secondary teams nationality will be included among the talents.

Format

As usual, please post suggestions in the Table Format, using the template file to help: https://www.dropbox.com/s/twh1qwmhhqh...s.xls?dl=0
(Fill in the file, then copy it to the post, and put within the table tags)

Versions of the rider at 4.100 and 1.0 are preferred.

Hi Nemo, thanks for this

You say "that there will be at least one rider among the talents from everybody's primary and/or secondary nation.", is it worth sharing these so we won't be suggesting what is already covered?

SotD
I think it’s fine for you to still suggest them. That way we can alter our initial plan with the rider if we feel that is the appropriate path.

I know a lot of riders will already be well within the plans but picked up on a couple I'd like added.

In terms of Spain, I feel it's time for a proper strong GC rider to be added. In recent years we have seen Florentino Marquez, David Abal and Rafael Valls all take heavy declines and we're about to see the same for their generation duo of Madrazo and Tenorio.

Enric Mas and Alex Aranburu (both 27) hit their max at 78/77 and 77/78 which you could argue is undercooked for the talent Mas possessed. But that is in the past.
The only other more recent climbing additions are Juan Pedro Lopez (25), who will max at 78/75 with very poor back-up stats, and Inigo Elosegui (24) who will max at 77MO with strong energy stats but only 64 FLA.

I believe that Juan Ayuso could be held to be added in the 2024 season as another generational talent, let's see this year just how good.

But for 2023, Carlos Rodriguez, can be added as a rider with potential to be a very strong GC rider.

I believe the below is a reasonable stat base. He's shown the ability to be an all-rounder and the below would give the option for the manager to take him either as a Stage Racer, more of a pure climber who likes to attack or a focus on TT (less likely given he'd max at 78).

Moving away from Spain, there is another rider who I believe should be added to be either a CT leader or strong domestique at PT/PCT level.
Kevin Vauquelin is a 21 year old Frenchman who has shown strong ability, this year in particular.

His results suggest he's a stage racer/climber who isn't quite as strong against the clock as he is going uphill. I would therefore suggest the following stats. This would give the option to make him a supporting Stage Race rider who has some ability against the clock or more of an attacking climber to go for KOMs.

My 3rd and final addition at this time is Hugo Page.

2022Criterium du Dauphine3 Top 10s

2023Great Ocean Road Race2nd

Looks to me like more of a sprinter who can go over a hill so a balanced classics rider.
I'm struggling to come up with a stat base for him as I think he should have decent sprinter stats (77s/78s) with a hill stat around 73, similar to Alaphilippe but slightly better Prologue rider and worse downhill/fighter.
But this is challenging to do without potentially making him a too strong sprinter with that development path.

Finally, I would like a stat update for Jordi Lopez to make him into an average climber/stage race domestique as he is currently borderline useless which is harsh given he's had a couple half-decent results.

From the possible best in class in the last post to obscurity!

It is finally time for me to suggest a couple of Indian cyclists (yes, it is happening Pfft ). They're not just any random ones though. Picked two that have achieved quite a bit, which is commendable being from India.

Naveen John is a former five time National ITT champion and one time Road Race champion. He was 13th, 10th and 8th, respectively, at the 2017, 2018 and 2022 Asian Championships ITT. He is the first and only Indian rider to race for a UCI team - State of Matter MAAP - in 2016, and was teammates of MG cyclists Michael Cuming and Alex Wohler. Basically, he is the institution of Indian Road cycling and there is basically no other like him in the whole country. He is 37 years old irl but was hoping he can get in at 27, and level 3, which means he can max at 29 and have a couple of training eligible years in him.

Esow Alben is a former Junior Track World Champion in the Team Sprint (2019). He also finished second in the Individual Sprint in the same year and third in the Keirin, again in the same year. Earlier in 2018, he had won the Silver in the Keirin. He is also the Bronze medal winner from the 2022 Asian Championships in the Team Sprint. He is a former Junior World No. 1 in the sprint.

Here come the Irish guys. The first one is probably already in the sights.
He is the next thing after Ben Healy. Archie Ryan

https://www.procy...rchie-ryan

He is a young climber who was 4th overall in Avenir last year as well as winning a stage in other races including a 2.1 race. Nice bit here where he says the Tour of Basque country is his dream race so that is what I was going for stats wise:
https://www.velon...ge-racers/

George Peden is a different proposition. This year and last year he is racing in Britain and seems to favour classics with cobbles but his best results have been in the Irish TT champs so I've given him two routes. Some more on his TT ability here:

https://www.ardscc...uk/?p=4655

https://www.procy...orge-peden

Finally (for now) Kevin McCambridge who is racing with Trinity this year. No real breakthrough result yet. You can see here how he sees himself:

https://www.casqu...ket-rocket

"I am definitely on the climber side of things, as I am lightweight and my power profile tends to be better over longer periods of time.

t learning experience, as it has taught me how to race smarter and more efficient for when my time comes.
The first part of the season there hasn’t been much opportunity for me to show myself in the hilly races as they have been suited to more punchy riders, but now as the summer comes so will the hilly and more mountainous races. I have also been riding a lot of flat races at the beginning of the season this year and it has been great

Simon Dehairs
Simon Dehairs is currently on the Alpecin-Deceunick Development Team. Had some good sprints last year when he placed 7th on three occasions in Saudi Tour and Tour de Hongrie. I could see him as a Rickaert replacement in couple of years time, just like Timo Kielich. Also a local from where I live, so would like to see him added.

Milan Paulus
Milan Paulus had a promising junior career, finishing 9th and 5th in the Classique des Alpes. After that he was plagued by a lot of injury and bad luck. Currently on Lotto Dstny Development Team. He is an attacking rider, so I based my development path on that. Also a local from where I live, so would like to see him added.

Tjøtta is currently on the French team 'Bourg-en-Bresse Ain Cyclisme' where he is racing on the French circuit. Already two victories and additional five podium spots. Last year he raced for Ringerike, winning races in Spain, Belgium, France and Norway (Sundvolden GP). Was also fourth in the Norwegian NC, finishing before the likes of Hagen, Eiking and Johannessen. I've made him into a hilly prospect.

Jarne van de Paar had signed for Lotto Dstny at the beginning of 2023, coming over from the Development Team. He is a pure sprinter. This year he was 3th in Trofeo Palma, behind Vernon and Girmay. Last year he won the Belgian U23 title in a mass sprint. He hasn't had a full season since 2019, but I'm sure he will progress in the coming years.

I think you need to investigate multiple development paths when suggesting riders.

Simon Dehairs would be 76SPR, 74ACC, 76PRL with Track-TT f.e., which is OK.
Milan Paulus would be 80HI with Hills, which is probably not OK.
Martin Tjøtta be 80MO, 77HI with CLv1, which is probably not OK.

So to avoid mistakes when adding talents, I think we need to look at key stats and maximize those also.

My own suggestions - atleast for now. Might add more later, but probably not as most of the riders I can find are too young.

Martinos Moutsious is the best eligeble greek timetriallist. He's by no means a perfect athlete, but seems pretty well rounded. As Vlatos is declining next season it would be interesting to play with a "new" albeit worse edition with more than 77TT, which is the highest added greek rider since Vlatos. So suggestion wise he's a bit of a talisman for the project. Whether or not he's the right fit for the stat combination is probably debateable, but it's a suggestion atleast.

Ioannis Iliadis is one of the older greek riders that actually look half decent. I have suggested him at level 4 for a couple of reasons. 1) He'll be useless agewise unless he's added to max after 1 season at the most - You could even argue he should be added fully maxed, but I like the idea of not charging into the scene. 2) He's a short term replacement for Bouglas, now that he's declining aswell as the younger Tzortzakis has already begun declining. There are not a lot of greek leadout types around, so he could be a supplement rider for a couple of seasons, until a more relevant talent comes along.

Nikolaos Zegklis is another relatively old rider. Born in 1996 I do think though that it can be OK to implement him at level 3. Then he would get 2 seasons of development, 1 season as maxed and 1 seasons as training eligeble, which will secure that he doesn't become more than a domestique level rider. He has a couple of interesting paths, but none that will make him anything but a solid helper.

The the one outlier, in Stavros Theorpanos. I haven't been able to spot any missed/decent cypriot riders, but I would like to see atleast one added. As there are no "top riders" from Cyprus, but only a couple of somewhat decent riders like Christodoulos, Miltiadis and Agrotis I think it would be a viable time for a good talent to arrive. Obviously he will be a level 1->2 max talent, which is OK from a RP perspective, as he will progress slowly. It also add to the history that he is developping slowly after seeing Miltiadis win a stage at the Tour de France, so he has a role model to look for. Engine-wise I have kept him open for multiple directions, but I don't spot any obvious shortcuts to make him great. Level wise he's just above Miltiadis, but more versatile. Domestique level climber/puncheur/sprinter or a decent/good roulleur - among a long list of similar riders.
