We did go past Puma, but got overtaken by two other teams in the process. We need another rush of points to prevent slipping away further and losing this unique opportunity to reach the top.

One rider in the top 500!
This is fascinating, I once started an exercise to see who was the all time high point scorer, got a few years in .. does anything like that exist?
The early years seem to have a different scoring system but multiplying by ten seemed rational

Now that the classic 2020 season is over, it's time to see where the teams' and riders' exploits puts them in the World Rankings. Once again, a big thank you to roturn, with the division rankings being the source of this thread.
MG Team World Rankings - End of Season 2020 With a jump of 7 positions, Isostar's PT win propels them to the top of the World Rankings for the first time ever. Puma fall a spot to be 2nd, while the ever consistent Moser remain 3rd, no change from the start of the season. Evonik's 2nd position sees them also jump 8 positions to come into the Top 5, with Gazelle falling 2 spots to be 4th. Festina's 6th place is their lowest ever position, since the start of this Rankings. A big drop for Aegon with relegation danger all year, while Aker and Indosat take even bigger ones after getting relegated. ISA are the biggest gainers in the PT, moving up 9 spots after securing their spot in the division for next year. Rakuten and cycleYorskhire actually move up despite relegation.
Surprisingly, the top3 in PCT either don't change positions or go down, with Mapei and Farfetch scoring less than their PT seasons last time around causing their loss of places. Desigual also retain the same spot as last season. The biggest movers in the PCT are MOL, who've made an excellent turnaround and move up 8 spots. They are followed by Xero, Swisslion and Zalgiris, who move up 7 spots each. Campari fall the furthest, as relegation causes them to lose 11 positions.
In the CT, Centovalli are the big movers, gaining 9 spots and have PCT to look forward to in 2021. Tryg's promotion also makes them gain 3 spots. Carrefour and Carlsberg do well to keep the same position despite falling a division from last time, while fellow promoters Philips lose 2 spots. Europcar's failure to challenge at the top of the CT means they lose a further 7 positions. Eddie Stobart falls 6. Project Africa have had the best season among new teams and they're even better than four existing teams now. Los Pollos also did well.

MG Rider World Rankings - End of Season 2020 Herklotz displaces Bewley at the top, with the aging superstar dropping to 3rd. Phinney moves up to 2nd after an excellent season leading his team to PT glory. Taarmae is 4th, while Lecuisinier moves up 13 spots to enter the Top 5. Lopez, Kwiatkowski and Manninen are the big gainers inside the Top 50, with Wurtz and Per just outside also of note. It's been six months, but better late than never, eh? The first World Rankings of the 2022 season is here, which means I'm already doing better than last season. Small victories! Let's see how it looks.
MG Team World Rankings - After June 2022 Isostar keep their stranglehold at the top. In fact, only one place in the Top 5 has changed with ELCO dropping down from 4th and Gazelle replacing them. Despite a tough season so far, Los Pollos's PT run sees them climb 13 places in the rankings.
Indosat and Assa Abloy are the big losers in PCT, having dropped 10 places each. No major upward movements so far, with Lierse and Bralirwa moving up 5 places each as the best.
Podium Ambition unsurprisingly loses seven spots, as the highest decline in the CT. Eddie Stobart have already fallen behind three new teams. MG Rider World Rankings - After June 2022 Isostar there, Isostar here, Isostar everywhere. At the top anyway! Phinney continues to lead the standings, as the two below him have swapped around. We can probably expect that to change again after the TDF, maybe. Dpmbrowski makes the biggest jump in the Top 10, and now sits pretty at 4th. Demare at 5th, also has moved up a fair few places. Pedersen is the rider with the biggest jump inside the Top 25.
Just outside the Top 25, Bernal has started to fulfill his potential and makes a massive leap from outside the Top 200. I think this is a proper answer, that we need bigger greek talents, if a PT team with huge focus can't have a top 100 rider

Points slightly going up is a good trend, especially given that our first half of the 2020 season (which should now have been excluded?) was strong as well. Sauber and Bralirwa have moved past us, which feels right given the strong season they're having. Let's see if we can find our mojo again and keep on scoring well.
In the individual rankings, Stüssi has now moved past Moscon, which is not surprising given the latter's no-shows so far. Masnada with a big jump up, though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him overtake at least Moscon. Aregger gaining some spots despite not riding in PT anymore shows that he's having a really good season so far!

Well, there are several teams with a Swiss focus, and the highest ranked Swiss rider (Schelling) has just dropped to P100 now. UBS always switching divisions surely doesn't help for some consistently high scoring, though. And we'll have to wait and see what damage the likes of Hirschi or Schmid can do once maxed, so maybe the future might look better.
I'm by no means against adding a strong Greek talent, but you've only just started to seriously train multiple Greeks if I'm not mistaken. And the World Ranking shows that several of them are on a great path; Spanopoulos, Kiriakidis and and Giannoutsos have all gained more than 200 spots, Farantakis and Mavrikakis are close to or above 100 gained spots as well. So I don't think it's looking too bad for Greek cycling I could well imagine having more Greeks than Swiss riders in the Top 100 in two years

If there's more Greek riders in the top 100 than Swiss in 2 years time it's because 15 mio have been invested into them
I would love just 1 Schelling, Hirschi, Spengler, Mäder, Reichenbach or Schmid level talent 
They haven't shown up since Tzortzakis and Vlatos. One has stopped, the other declines after this season. Farantakis I suppose is the one that can somewhat match a couple of the above talents, but hardly as good as either when all is maxed.
Maybe a couple of Stüssi, Frankiny, Müller, Küng, Chavanne or Dillier level could also be worth it.
Most of the greek talents (including Giannoutsos, Mavrikakis, Vila, Kiriakidis, Ioannidis, Christapopoulos, Christakos, Karatsivis etc.) are at the level of Frankiny, Schir, Aregger, Bissegger etc. at the very best.
Without training there's no Greeks in the DB that will enter the top 100 ever
It's fair to say that a couple of swiss riders could do that. I think atleast these have a realistic shot (I don't know how much training is invested, I just look at stats):
Lukas Spengler
Patrick Schelling
Marc Hirschi
Kilian Frankiny
Colin Stüssi
Gino Mäder
Stefan Küng
Silvan Dillier
They won't all go there, but all have the potential to sneak into the top 100 now and again.

True, but they atleast had Edvald Boasson Hagen up until now that was in top 10 most of the time. Aswell as some higher than greek level riders:

- Odd Christian Eiking
- Tobias Foss
- Vegard Breen
- Rasmus Tiller
- Sven Erik Bystrom
- Jo Kogstad Ringheim
Enger is probably similar to Farantakis. Nesset similar to Giannoutsos, Hoelgaard similar to Vila, Vangstad similar to Christapopoulos etc.

@SotD, Spengler might be the Swiss rider with the most money pumped into so far
I'm aware that none of the current Greeks might make it into the Top 100 without training - but imho only the top talents will anyway, so maybe max 10 riders per year. Of the Swiss riders, Schelling might (if he does a good TdF), but I'm not sure if he got some (significant) training earlier. I think if any of the younger riders can make it without training, that would be Hirschi. I can't see any of the others be strong enough for that.
Considering Vlatos, btw, I'd say he's about in the right spot, being the 3rd best one-dimensional TTer (counting Würtz in there as well). Losing some points probably is linked to the influx of strong TTers (also remember that PT had two teams less last year); maybe with the reduction of daily form impact might however generally increase the scoring for TTers, as those are pretty random right now.
@hillis
You're definitely right that Norwegians aren't very strongly represented. It surely doesn't help that some of the strongest guys are riding in lower divisions, though, where scoring simply is lower than in PT in general. At least there are two Scandinavians in the Top 25 right now And especially THJ (potentially 80 Mo) and maybe Leknessund should be some good prospects for the near future

The above explains why we're one of the hardest dropping teams, and oof boy, that drop is going to become even more pronounced. This maintains a place as one of the most interesting analyses in the game, really great to get the comparisons a couple of times a year and chart history.
