Also awesome to see Nur Hasan putting in a good first ride for Jph and taking the white jersey. Hope he can hold onto it!

Why isn't the intermediate sprints listed on the route btw? Tbh, I didn't think there was any such sprints this season.
Are there also KOM points on offer?
There are sprints, they don't show up on the profiles until you go into the race unfortunately. So we don't pick them up in the profiles as that would require running the race. 2 in the first 3 stages, 1 in the last two.
No KOM in Qatar.

Manninen was a bit too far away to really get another strong result. Nonetheless, seventh is not bad, seeing where he came from. Nice to remain in the lead for now. Sütterlin taking three seconds might be important
Thanks for the nice report again, Ulrich!

Well, that was a very strange sprint - but I certainly won't complain with Farantakis taking a very solid 2nd and enough bonus seconds to be a real threat towards a low end top 10.
It would have been better to switch Coquard and Bouglas of course as Bouglas can't ride a PRL worth anything - so he'll need to have a huge gap to be competitive - and he won't get that of course.
Still, Coquard get's more seconds is good, even if it was only 9th.
Kiriakidis and Kortsidakis are also in a pretty solid GC position, and those spots could be worth a few points if the epilogue is very close. Kiriakidis currently 2nd in the U25 competition also picking up a bit here and there.
How is the team GC calculated btw? We were 2nd after the first stage, but now we are 2nd from last - while we should clearly move up to 1st.
Congrats on the win croatia

Even after all those years, PCM still isn't able to correctly calculate the team standings in case of s.t.
But given that there are no points for intermediate team standings anyway, it's just an aesthetic issue. The calculation tool will distribute the points correctly, no matter what PCM outputs there. But you obviously can't see it anywhere ^^
Btw, congrats to Croatia, good to see one of the top favs deliver. And also to Manninen and LPH, great start to the race
Less good for some others, and it especially sucks for Grosu getting PCM's "Special AI Treatment" in this race

Good win and well timed by Gaviria! Congratulations, croatia
Hoping this race is not an indicator for how Kragh will race in other flat races/stages, but only that Qatar’s startlist for the sprints is too stacked for him to get involved in the final kilometers. |

Great way to strike back. Sprint trains look a lot more messy than what I hoped for, this time all 3 got boxed in it seems. Still, Peak drove us very well this time which you love to see.

Congrats to Croatia, nice to see Gaviria fight back after a bad first stage.
Also interesting situation for ELCO with the "wrong duo" getting on the podium each. With Farantakis being a particularly strong prologue rider on his own, this could be a massive stage result for them...
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Taking 2nd in an actual Qatar stage was a very pleasant start for Van der Lijke, given his usual record in sprinting races.
Hopefully can return to the Top 10 in future. If the race gets more varied Top 10s, maybe that's less work to do if one of my team gets a good TT day - or maybe it's the opposite. Have to wait and see.

Team competition will be determined on the epilogue and as Fab notes interim teams competition doesn't matter, so I don't worry about it.
This is the first race with the extra MT stages to remove the GC bug so interested in how people feel about it. Clearly the top GC guys aren't sitting out sprints like they were which is good. Although Grosu performance not so good.

Grosu in 87th?! What the fuck is happening with him here? I never thought I’d see Madrazo schooling him in the GC of a pan flat race, It’s so weird. So shit for Alex. Kemboi not contesting a single stage either is bizarre.
Mannien up where he belongs still is good to see! Halfway through the race now, does Los Apollo’s dare to dream?

Still no stage wins, but 4 podiums is much better than we expected from this race. Coquard with some clever positioning when the train didn't work well. Farantakis must have blown up completely to go from 7th or so with 1km to go to finish outside top 40.
Kiriakidis already picked up 6 points from the U25 which is really solid. He also performed well in the U25 in Tasmania - it's exactly those kind of points we need to scrape up to have a shot at surviving. Great win from Ewan while Gaviria suffered from the early leadout. Sometimes they work, but more often they don't (atleast for us).
It's good to see Huski somewhat active in the breakaways because it sure does suck to see Grosu being picked as the notorious "top-sprinter who doesn't care" for the race. It's so shit to see and it hurts a lot when it's in these sprint GC friendly races as he is likely to throw away 200+ points from this behaviour.

2nd time we blunder in our sprint train, this time Gaviria having to close the gap to Peak costs us dearly. Inacceptable if we wanna get an early advantage in the title fight. Why again is Coquard 1 AVG lower than Gaviria!?

In a season where we need all the points we can get, we'll be getting virtually nothing from what should have been one of our best races. That's definitely not good.

Conmiserations to alex indeed. This sucks very hard for you, I hope Grosu bounces back double as hard in the next race (or well, this race as well preferably).

Although we love dreaming at Los Appollo's, we try to stay realistic as well, and with Coquard at one second that means winning the GC should be off the table at the moment. Another seventh for Manninen is not the worst, as he still manages to score some seconds, but in the coming two stages he'll need to get another top-3 stage result for a top-5 in the GC I think
