It would be nice to see Benoot excel in Battenkill with his varied skillset

@Fabianski: Thanks for the wishes
The idea with Suisse was exactly what you said, hope the consecutive clashes mean the startlist isn't the strongest. You are right about Colombia but a PTHC Top 10 with bands looks to be more likely than a HC Top 5 this season! This was actually an OR for us with Maroc, but we thought this was more realistic. The ToA was not kind to us last time, but we have a better squad to there this time and want to try and take it all the way.
@Nemolito: Would love to have you report it again, with us in it this time. Was great following it as a neutral last season. Kraftwerk has been an example for us with team building for the last couple of seasons, and we've finally built a team to hopefully be able to challenge them in the race that has become synonymous with them.
@Ulrich: You will know better than anyone how good or bad we are setup for ToA. Hopefully we can do justice to the great course
@redordead: Hoping you are right about that. No great expectations, will be happy to just get the goal. Will be tough though!

It is time to reveal this year's calendar. With two climbers, our bands and race choices were always going to lean towards those races, and that is quite evident from the calendar we have chosen. Beyond that, our activities in the transfer window played a major role in selecting the C1 and C2 races. Here is the full list...

When you have multiple leaders including climbers that surely has to make race selections and the subsequent planning much easier.
Looking good, but I'm not looking forward to facing your team

Don't know how much easier it is, but I have always tried to have leaders for every terrain and I'm happy I could not do that again.
Don't think you have anything to worry about with Beltran still on top of his game

From four to six, the number of leaders we have gone up, and we hope that translates directly into our position in the PCT standings. We continue our philosophy of trying to have a leader for every race and as many stages in each race as possible, and we have got close to that this season.
Ki Ho Choi | Climber/Stage Racer Start | End | Race | Category | 13-Feb | | Classique du Grand Duche | PT Wildcard | 22-Feb | 24-Feb | Tour of Ukraine | PTHC | 13-Mar | 18-Mar | Vuelta a Colombia | PTHC | 03-May | | Fleche Wallonne | PT Wildcard | 03-Jun | | Pro Hallstatt Classic | HC | 08-Jun | 14-Jun | Tour de Suisse | PTHC | 03-Sep | 23-Sep | Tour of America | C1 |
Three points on Choi's agenda for the season - Goals, Wildcrads and Experiments. Choi will lead the team in all three mountain goal races - Tour of America, Suisse and Colombia. He will also lead in the experimental outings at Ukraine and Pro Halstatt. He will be a part of the teams travelling to Grand Duche and Flech Wallone for two of our three wildcard races.
**Races marked in bold are Goal races.
Tiesj Benoot | Puncher Start | End | Race | Category | 13-Jan | 18-Jan | Tour Down Under | HC | 04-Feb | | Viana do Castelo | C1 | 13-Feb | | Classique du Grand Duche | PT Wildcard | 24-Mar | | Strade Bianche | HC | 20-Apr | | Badaling International | C1 | 25-Apr | | GP Wallonie | HC | 01-May | | Cheshire Cycling Tour | PTHC | 03-May | | Fleche Wallonne | PT Wildcard | 18-May | | 1 Jour de Dunkerque | C1 | 17-Jun | 22-Jun | Tour of South Africa | C1 | 01-Aug | 06-Aug | Benelux Challenge | HC | 01-Sep | | GP Kigali | C1 | 26-Sep | | Tour of the Battenkill | PTHC | 28-Sep | | Milano - Torino | C1 | 03-Oct | | Japan Cup | PTHC | 18-Oct | | Giro dell'Emilia | HC |
Benoot takes care of our other goal race in Battenkill. He will lead the hills races, with classics outnumbering stage races once again. He was not a part of the squad when we picked, so it might have been a different story otherwise. He will also lead in also the punchy cobbled races and co-lead with Saya Kuroeda in some other cobbles races.
**Races marked in bold are Goal races.
Pierre Paolo Penasa | Climber/Stage Racer Start | End | Race | Category | 13-Feb | | Classique du Grand Duche | PT Wildcard | 03-May | 08-May | Tour de Romandie | C1 | 12-May | 14-May | Tour of Chile | C1 | 17-May | 23-May | Int. Osterreich Rundfahrt | HC | 05-Jun | 08-Jun | Tour of East Java | PTHC | 14-Jun | 21-Jun | Criterium du Dauphine Libere | PTHC | 25-Jul | 29-Jul | Tour d'Andorra | C1 | 17-Sep | 20-Sep | Bayern Rundfahrt | HC | 01-Oct | 06-Oct | Tour du Maroc | HC |
Penasa has a very similar calendar to last season. With a stronger stage racer/climber field in the PCT this time, we hope he will still be able to get regular Top 10s.
Tom Van Asbroeck | Sprinter Start | End | Race | Category | 09-Jan | | Down Under Classic | HC | 04-Feb | | Omloop Het Nieuwsblad | HC | 10-Feb | | Le Samyn | HC | 24-Mar | | Macskako Kerekparverseny | PT Wildcard | 30-Mar | | Lillestrom GP | C1 | 01-May | | Cheshire Cycling Tour | PTHC | 03-May | | Fleche Wallonne | PT Wildcard | 18-May | | 1 Jour de Dunkerque | C1 | 01-Aug | 06-Aug | Benelux Challenge | HC | 09-Aug | 13-Aug | Post Danmark Rundt | HC | 03-Sep | 23-Sep | Tour of America | C1 | 26-Sep | | Tour of the Battenkill | PTHC |
Van Asbroeck is our sprinter of choice in the Tour of America. Most of the rest of the season will be spent supporting the cobbles team with a couple of appearances in flat classics.
Riccardo Minali | Sprinter Start | End | Race | Category | 13-Jan | 18-Jan | Tour Down Under | HC | 04-Feb | | Omloop Het Nieuwsblad | HC | 22-Feb | 26-Feb | Circulo de Juarez | HC | 08-Mar | | Great Ocean Road Classic | PTHC | 13-Mar | 18-Mar | Vuelta a Colombia | PTHC | 24-Mar | | Macskako Kerekparverseny | PT Wildcard | 17-May | 23-May | Int. Osterreich Rundfahrt | HC | 27-May | 31-May | Tour of Norway | HC | 05-Jun | 08-Jun | Tour of East Java | PTHC | 14-Jun | 21-Jun | Criterium du Dauphine Libere | PTHC | 13-Jul | | Philadelphia International Championship | PTHC | 01-Sep | | Paris Tours | PTHC | 01-Oct | 06-Oct | Tour du Maroc | HC |
Minali is tasked with covering some of the flat classics and every stage race we could fit into his schedule which have at least two flat rated stages.
Saya Kuroeda | Sprinter Start | End | Race | Category | 09-Jan | | Down Under Classic | HC | 13-Jan | 18-Jan | Tour Down Under | HC | 04-Feb | | Omloop Het Nieuwsblad | HC | 10-Feb | | Le Samyn | HC | 22-Feb | 26-Feb | Circulo de Juarez | HC | 08-Mar | | Great Ocean Road Classic | PTHC | 24-Mar | | Macskako Kerekparverseny | PT Wildcard | 30-Mar | | Lillestrom GP | C1 | 20-Apr | | Badaling International | C1 | 01-May | | Cheshire Cycling Tour | PTHC | 18-May | | 1 Jour de Dunkerque | C1 | 05-Jun | 08-Jun | Tour of East Java | PTHC | 13-Jul | | Philadelphia International Championship | PTHC | 06-Aug | | Clasica San Sebastian | PTHC | 09-Aug | 13-Aug | Post Danmark Rundt | HC | 01-Sep | | GP Kigali | C1 | 17-Sep | 20-Sep | Bayern Rundfahrt | HC | 03-Oct | | Japan Cup | PTHC |
Saya Kuroeda either leads or co-leads the flat cobbled races. He also turns up as support rider in multiple terrains to make up the team numbers. It isn't the ideal calendar for him but there simply isn't enough suiting RDs available.
William Barta will lead the team in our C2 outings at Trentino and California.

Grand Plans - We have found our way back to the Tour of America!
Back in 2019, when we were in our second season in the PCT, and third season overall, we chose to ride in the Tour of America for the very first time. It was not a great race for us. Florentino Marquez was our leader, who lost the 4th place he held for multiple stages on the MTT by just a second, finishing 5th in the process. We did not pick up enough points as we had expected. It eventually led to our relegation from the PCT that very season.
We recovered immediately back to the PCT after a successful season in CT in 2020, and are again in our second successive PCT season, having survived last year on the back of a strong end to the season. We are once again on our way to the Tour of America! This time however, we have a much stronger team, both in terms of leadership, in terms of support and also in terms of targeting stages with non-GC riders.
Ki Ho Choi | GC Leader | Tom Van Asbroeck | Sprinter | Pascal Eenkhoorn | Super Domestique/U25s | Simone Velasco | Puncher/Domestique | Jan Xandri | Domestique | William Barta | Domestique | Clement Champoussin | Domestique/U25s | Yannick Stoltz | Prologue/Roluer |
Week 1 begins with a Prologue and we will be taking MG legend Stoltz as our leader for this stage. Choi, Eenkhoorn and Barta are all competitive in Prologues and should not lose too much time here. Stages 2 to 9 is a combination of flat and hills and we have riders to try to be competitive on those as well.
Van Asbroeck will lead our charge on the flats, with Stages 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 18 and 21 on his target list. While he is not the fastest sprinter out there, we hope he can be wily enough to surf the right wheels and pick up enough points for a Green Jersey push. He will have Stoltz to help him out on the flats, with the latter's abilities well suited to that role.
Velasco will target Stages 3 through 6 in week and possibly a couple of hilly stages in week 2, in addition to his role on other stages where he will slot in as another domestique for Choi.
Speaking of our GC leader, we will hope to keep Choi safe and in touch with the top of the GC till Stage 10. Like we already mentioned before, his decent Prologue capability should mean he is competitive in the Prologue and not lose too much time to his rivals there. Stage 11 onwards is where the real action will begin for him. We hope his stage racing abilities will allow him to challenge for a podium finish in this race.
Eenkhoorn will take on the responsibility of being the primary domestique for Choi and also hopefully mount a challenge on the White Jersey in this race. Champoussin will also be in a similar role, albeit he is not expected to be as strong as the former.
Xandri and Barta will have the responsibility of keeping Choi safe on the early slopes of the major climbs, putting him into good positions to mount his own attacks while also chasing down attacks from opponents. We do expect them to do well in the MTT, given their capabilities.
The Tour of America is generally not a race we target. However, we are going to this race this time with big expectations and a strong team, capable of challenging on almost all stages, at least on paper. We hope the team can make the trip and the 21 racedays used up fruitful. Doing well in this race could propel our season to never before heights, so a lot is on the line for sure.

Hopefully you have more 'luck' with ToA sprinting then me. It would be nice to see someone other than Haller dominating those stages this year.

That's a sick ToA team I think. Definitely capable of breaking the Kraftwerk hegemony, although I can imagine the Germans not wanting to give it up yet and possibly sending Ranaweera for a big fight

@redordead: Don't have very high hopes there but a couple of results will make it worthwhile.
@Nemolito: I'm sure Kraftwerk will be there in their full glory, but we're also expecting a much stronger startlist in general. It will be a hard race for sure.

I disagree
Bold move to go all in for ToA and happy to have the competition, I love watching a good tussle and the race deserves it. It will come as no surprise that Kraftwerk will be defending the title vigorously

Rider | Role | Tom Van Asbroeck | Leader | Saya Kuroeda | Sprint Train | Shiki Kuroeda | Sprint Train | Tom Dumoulin | Domestique | Dan McLay | Sprint Train | Yannick Stoltz | Roleur | Mick Van Dijke | Domestique |
Van Asbroeck achieved an impressive 4th in this race last season, but we do not expect a repeat this time. However, the support team is strong enough to keep him safe and deliver him to a good starting position in the sprint. Expectation: Top 15
Watch Out For: Saya Kuroeda
Rider | Role | Tiejs Benoot | Leader | Saya Kuroeda | Domestique | Riccardo Minali | Sprinter | Shiki Kuroeda | Domestique | Dan McLay | Domestique | Gijs Leemreize | Domestique | Mick Van Dijke | Domestique | Oscar Samuel Galvan Ramirez | Domestique |
Bulked up Benoot rides his first race as our leader. Minali also takes up sprinter responsibilities for the first time in our colours having completed his development. We are quite excited to see both of them in action for the first time. Most of the support team from the Down Under Classic stays on in Australia for this one as well. Expectation: Top 10
Watch Out For: Riccardo Minali
We go into January with a lot of expectations, for both this month, and also for the 2022 season. We did well to keep ourselves in the division and hope we have done enough to improve on it this time. The first month will not be decisive in this matter, but it will surely set the tone for the rest of the season. Looking forward to the racing. Let's go...
@ knockout: Looking forward to the race! Hope the lineup translates to the desired results

Good luck with Van Asbroeck. I thing It's only a bit of acc missing otherwise it would be hard to beat him and Benoot will defenetly be hard to compete againt him.
The both Kuroeda will defenetly be interesting to keep eye on both of them special if one of them will go into attack or breakaway.
