Bordeaux Métropole’s Vice President for sports and Euskotren Marketing Manager have announced today, in a joint video-press-conference, that they are now funding a professional cycling team, in the continental division of the MGUCI as of 2022 season.
We’ve met with the Vice President for an in-depth interview about the sponsors, their goals and the future.
Why did you decide to fund a new cycling team?
Nobody will have missed that the number of cyclists in the metropolis is rising. We want to accompany this movement by the development of a competing cycling team, and extend it to the more remote areas of the region.
We also want to promote better, greener cycling.
You didn’t fund the team alone.
No, we have a wonderful team of co-sponsors, which will help us to achieve our goals:
Euskotren, our major co-sponsor, is based in our twin-city, Bilbao, and is an expert in public transportation. They will help us to decarbonize the team transportation. We are very happy to have them with us, seeing the number of races there is in the Basque country.
Cacolac is one of the oldest company in Bordeaux. They’re well known by the public, and can help us with there knowledge of food and beverages.
Aclima is a Basque environment cluster, and they’ll bring their expertise on greenhouse gas reduction.
While we don’t have bicycles makers fit to equip a professional team in Bordeaux yet, we’ve decided to work with BH for our equipment. They’re also a Basque company with ties with our great region.
Le Coq Sportif will supply us with clothing. They are emblematic of French sport. We’re already working on more sustainable equipment, and have great hope to achieve something in this regard.
Speaking of clothing, you’ve already shown the team kit.
Yes! It’s been designed by Ezeefreak, and we thank him greatly for this wonderful work.
Last question, what are your goals regarding the future riders?
If we can develop French or Basque riders, we will do it. The idea though is to have recognizable figures in the team, with whom the public will be able to bond. Nationality will not be the first criteria.

Better late than never - But a big and warm welcome to the game!
Can't really understand why no one else have visited your HQ yet. You must have moved under the radar somehow.
I love the Basque focus. In fact I have been a bit annoyed/surprised that no one has picked this region up. There isn't a real Basque flag in the DB as far as I know, but with a bit of research it should be very easy to find some pretty decent riders with basque background.
I think you'll find it to be a very interesting build, and I definately am looking forward to see it unfold.

I share the same sentiment as SoTD. I sure went under my radar.. Sorry about that.
Your focus and plan seems very interesting. A great cycling univerese needs a Basque based team!

As said here before me, the Basque focus is very appealing.
I’m curious to see how you will stack the roster
Good luck!

Nice to have a few other Spanish teams to add to the Peloton! Especially one with somewhat of a Basque focus and a very nice looking jersey!

Echoing the others, really good to have some teams having at least a secondary Spanish focus :) Also looks like you're speaking French - always good to know ;)
By the way, although Basque Country doesn't exist as a country in PCM, the forum has a flag for it:
You won't find it in the flags picker, though, but you can add it manually:

A warm welcome from me too! I really like the graphics in this HQ - both HQ and banner are beautiful! The logos of your two title sponsor are a perfect match and Ezeefreak did a great job translating that to a very fitting and pleasing shirt.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Managing to get involved in both the Spanish and French CT scraps might be madness or genius, will certainly be interesting Welcome to the MG and best of luck, will follow how you go!

Hi everyone ; wow, so much messages, the thread exploded in like one day.
I've read everything some days ago, but now I've time to properly answer.

Thanks a lot.
Well, moving under the radar is always a risk in a forum, but I've finally been found!
And truth be told, I myself didn't take the time to visite other HQs yet (or to answer to them, more precisely), but I intend to repair that soon.

No need to be sorry, as the welcoming is still nice and warm :)
The team is not yet based in the basque county full time, but not that far :D

I'm as curious as you are, hehe.
Thank you!

Thanks for the welcoming and for the flag!

Thank you very much. To be honest, I didn't know when I chose them that the colours would match this much, and it's only when I saw what Ezeefreak made that I went, wow. Thanks to him again, too.

l]
After a difficult first weekend (more informations below), Bordeaux Métropole Euskotren has confirmed its first signings. We review them with the team manager.
SO : Here they are, the first signings. What can you tell about them?
BDX : Mikel was one of our main objectives for our first transfer season: he's experienced, is born very near the french-spanish border in the Basque Country, and is well suited for our goal races. We're very happy to have him in Bordeaux.
Rémy joined us from ELCO - ABEA, and we don't regret the fee we've put for him: he's young, and should be a valuable asset to accompany Mikel in the mountain and to have some opportunities for himself. We're sure he'll like the region, and that the Bordelais and Bilbaínos will like him.
SO : In the moutain team, you've also announced Fabien Doubey and Jordi Simón.
BDX : Exactly, Jordi from free agency and Fabien in a deal with Tafjord Kraft, a fellow CT team. I think everybody was happy with this deal. We also count on Fabien for the more hilly races, where he’ll team up with Cristian Rodriguez and Quentin Pacher, who are both in their prime and, we hope, will show their capacities on the road.
SO : The flat roads are maybe where you’re missing for the moment.
BDX : Yes, but we are talking with some other riders, to join the team on this field. That said, Marc Sarreau can sprint, even though he is not one of the best of the division, and he has some capacities on the cobbles, where he should ride with Jon Ander Insausti – who is born less than 50kms from Mikel.
SO : What is to expect for the end of the transfer window ?
BDX : We should announce some new riders in the following hours. The next days should be more calm, though we will try to recruit some youngsters to develop.
SO : Last question : a rumour said that you started your discussions with riders very late. What happened ?
BDX : You should ask that to Bordeaux Métropole’s president.
Even though nobody would tell us officially, we have been able to learn that when Bordeaux Métropole – Euskotren’s staff arrived in the office that are provided to them in the métropole’s building, everybody was already gone. Hence nearly a day to find some keys – and an Internet connexion.
For more details on Bordeaux Métropole – Euskotren team, see our page « Cycling ». [Coming Soon]
