Season planning for PCM22?

Couple of question for the season planning.

1: Is the assistent planner any good?

2: I startet my own CWT team, but its crazy how many races they are signed up for! How many races should a CWT team accept per season? How many race day should at rider have per season?

3: Could a person in here maybe make a fully tutorial for season planning with tip and tricks and so on. (maybe a youtube video?)

I've never tried the assistant because I've seen comments here and elsewhere that it's bad but someone else might have experience with it.

I always start with the Grand Tours and put my 3x8 into the planner for each. Next I go through all of the objectives up to the end of July. After July doesn't really matter. Then I go through all of the World Tour stage races, then the world tour one days races. Next it's the Pro/HC stage races then the Pro/HC one days. I skip anything that might clash with the EC and WC races and will assign them when riders have been picked for the EC then later the same thing when riders are picked for the WC. This is because the game has an annoying glitch whereby if you have them down for a race on the same day as the WC for example and then they get picked to ride the WC there is no way to remove them from the race you had them down for and they end up missing the WC.

At this point it's time to check how many race days each rider has. I'm looking to keep them at no more than mid 70s in race days so before going to .1 and .2 I'll be expecting them to be in the 60 day region. I'll then go through the .1/.2 races and use them to keep riders busy during grand tours they aren't involved in so they don't complain of no racing and where necessary to make sure of grand tour preparation (i.e. for fitness peak I want them to get 10-12 days or so racing in the 8 weeks leading up to the grand tour. Anymore than that and they might peak too early). In some cases they'll be getting enough days prep. anyway so you won't need them. Prep isn't as important for shorter races as even if they peak early they should be ok (unless you are planning for a 3 week period covering multiple one day races then you need to be as mindful as for grand tours). During all of this I might go into the calendar and add some races in periods I need (like keeping riders happy etc.) but anything you request won't appear on the planner until you progress a day to see if they have accepted you so you need to take that into account.

I do my best to make sure my main grand tour contenders are getting proper rests in between any races especially week long stage races so I'll be mindful of that while assigning them to races. The biggest problem I have is GC guys dropping in fitness very fast during a grand tour and I haven't quite figured out how to get it right yet but the most likely reason is tiredness because of not enough rest between races during the season. I'm only concerned with those 2 or 3 guys who I want to challenge for the win.

Then I take note of all the .1 and .2 races I've skipped and remove them from the calendar. The whole process takes a good hour or two but I enjoy it and treat it as part of the game. All of this is based on PCM 21 as I'm just starting 22 so I could be wrong about certain things but you can rely on Cyanide not having changed that much Smile

Forgot to say if a HC/Pro race is not ideal then I'm happy to remove them from the calendar too. Remember you only have to ride the World Tour races. Everything else is up to you. You may also prioritise some of the World Tour races first. e.g. you might do the classics season before doing Tour Down Under because it's more important or your riders are better suited to getting a win there. Same for Ardennes etc.

2: Can they have two or tree goal close together or will it effect the riders form?

I also have a question for the season planning

For example in the old objectives system, if i had the cobbles as an objectives, then i chose E3 Harelbeke or Wevelgem as the objectives, so the fitness peak is there for all the cobbles race. I also have a week in februay with no training and no race so they keep the frehsness in all the cobbles race.

With the new objectives system, what do you do keep the frehsness and fitness peak for all the cobbles race from E3 to Roubaix? Which race do set as your objectives? And do have a red zone break with no race in a week in for example january or februay?

In the Grand Tours my riders form drops to 85 in the third week. Other with that problems?

You can still edit the weeks around goals and throughout the calendar to regulate fitness/breaks. The green bar below goal races exists for every week and by clicking on it, you can switch betwenn 100% goal, 95% goal, break or default. That way, if you set E3 as a goal, you can still prolong the fitness phase another week or two and you should be able to reach Roubaix with good fitness as well (note that I have not done this in PCM22, but it should work like this). Obviously, if you set too many high fitness weeks, the rider will tire out quicky.

Can't help you with the GT thing since I haven't done a full season including planning yet, but I would assume that the rider started fitness training too early and wasn't able to sustain his peak shape for long enough. Maybe you can start the training/racing later or include an additional rest period a few weeks before the GT?

Fitness is a major issue and something that is hard to get right since they simplified the planner. I have noticed you can still expand a rider on the planning and see their tiredness but only current tiredness. May still be of use in deciding they need a break. You can also see their tiredness in the preparation tab of a riders' details. I think the issue is if you have a rider doing a lot of racing without any breaks afterwards then their tiredness keeps going up. 8 weeks from an objective they start preparing and their tiredness will gradually rise and I don't think you can get it to lower once that 8 week prep begins. If they were already at a high level of tiredness then once they hit their objective 8 weeks later their tiredness is so high it affects their fitness. This is why I think it's important to try and have their tiredness as low as possible just before the 8 week prep starts. The other factor is the amount of racing they do in that 8 week period. If they do too much they will hit peak too soon. A race day moves their peak level up 3 points which is double their training points (roughly as training points vary). So each race day gets them there quicker. Which is why I said above I keep it at about 10 days racing in that 8 weeks.

As for how many objectives. Well strictly speaking one objective every 11-12 weeks based on the 8 weeks prep., 3 weeks in peak and then one week of forced rest. When you start a season the game will have picked objective all over the place and I'm not sure how it's supposed to work as it makes no sense to me.

I've also given up trying to peak for anything before March for a variety of reasons (low starting fitness, not enough race days early to build them up correctly). for objective in the spring it's vital they get the 10 race days at least because they start low fitness. Of course you could start them all on very high but I'm not sure if that doesn't also have a knock on affect on tiredness later.

So generally I end up with 3 objectives (objective periods for something like the cobble classics) on average. Maybe Paris-Nice, TdF and Il Lombardia for example.

I have done a season where simulated the races and tried different things for the riders

I also think that 3 objectives is the best. For riders with cobbles race i choose Harelbeke. For the riders with the ardennes i chose Amstel. The fitness peak will start there and be there for the rest of the cobbles/ardennes race.
For my GC riders who ride Giro, i set Giro as there first objectives

No matter what i do about the Grand tours, the form will drop to 85-90 in the last week. But maybe that also is more realistic?
For example with three diferent riders i tried these three situation: One break zone a week before, one break zone a month before, 95 form in the first week in Tour de France. In all situation the form will drop in the last week

Also i found out that it is possible to have a race under the red zone break, and the rider still get better frehsness

@jakobbe : If the race route allows for it consider editing the peak to 95% for the first week. Not sure if that's the sole reason and haven't played for years before getting PCM 22 but always used to do that back when you needed to do things manually and as said above you can still edit it in the current game.

Only did the Giro so far (first 2 seasons couldn't get any Wild Card for a GT) but what worked really well for my leader (pictured) and main teammates was an early objective end of february, 95% first week : https://imgur.com...

Would definitely try and get the red bar quite low before the GT starts, if necessary make an adjustment and throw in a break period. As you see i actually cancelled an objective (Milan San Remo) as i was getting doubts this would work.

Most of the time, though there are obviously more exceptions nowadays, the first week isn't going to make or break your chances. Better start off a littler slower than struggle in the last week.
