There it was, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. My name back on a team sheet. Nigeria head coach J.J. kept his word. He was going to give me a chance. But, I'm still not sure if I'm getting my shot because I earned it or because it's out of necessity since our captain John Hamzat suffered a calf strain four weeks earlier.

Hamzat, slowly making his recovery, also made the African Cup of Nations qualifying roster but hasn't been cleared to play a full 90 minutes yet. Plus, I assume having more midfield depth is never a bad thing.

The complete 23-man roster for this international window:

i.imgur.com/pWy348W.jpg

Some familiar faces and some new ones. Overall, a solid squad for the No. 30-ranked country in the latest FIFA rankings. We are favored against our first two African Cup of Nations opponents: 141st Liberia and 51st Tunisia.

I don't really care about any of that. I'm just ecstatic to play again. I packed my bags and bought a first-class seat to Liberia for my first game in over five months.

Return to Action: After a five month hiatus, Marcus Diamond returned to the football pitch. He was able to knock off the rust in the first two games but now has another lengthy layover before international play resumes. In an attempt to stay in shape, Diamond has reached out to a few of his former clubs to see if they would allow him to train with their senior team over these next couple of months.

Unsurprisingly, four managers agreed once Diamond said he was willing to pay a weekly fee of 5,000 euros to train with their squad. His choices:

(Option A) Canvey Island F.C.

(Option B) Witham Town.

(Option C) AFC Hornchurch.

(Option D) Helmond Sport.

The loss against Tunisia isn't ideal, but Nigeria should still easily qualify for the African Cup of Nations Smile Great comeback goal by Marcus! +6 decisions from me, and option A.

Great way to let the world know that you're back! Nice goal there, hopefully more to come!

Concerning the football team to train with, I'm actually interested to know where Marcus and Grace currently "live". In this stage of your life, you probably don't want to make long trips on an almost daily basis. So if they're in UK, I'll go for Option A, if they're in the Netherlands, let's take Option D.

Love to see it!!

Agree with Fabianski's opinion on the dilemma - Option A if they live in the UK, Option D if Netherlands.

Recent flash flooding in the Tuscany region surprisingly canceled this year's 2026 edition of cycling's sixth monument, Strade Bianche. The famous white gravel roads were deemed unsafe to ride -- many being underwater -- and the race was called off two days before the teams were scheduled to arrive.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed. I was looking forward to defending my third place from a year ago, but the abrupt cancellation did give me some extra time to prepare for my Ironman 70.3 in South Africa, where I finished a respectable 14th.

Some of my SEG - Quick Step teammates took notice and are trying to get my new nickname "Mr. Ironman" to stick. Meanwhile, management wasn't too pleased I used their equipment and gear at the event without their permission. But, I didn't damage anything so there was nothing they could really do about it.

It was all water under the bridge, pardon my pun.

The first monument of the year in Northern Italy wasn't derailed by muddy roads.

Perfect race tactics, congrats on Marcus' first monument win! Would have sucked to get caught there, so thanks to Moscon for the perfect leadout Pfft
However, not too well done in E3, with his skillset he really shouldn't get dropped on a cobbled hill. But well, narrow roads as cobbled often are don't help to follow the right moves ^^

Great to see another unlock - I guess 74 is alread the new progress number?

Unlock:
1. TT (this really holds him back in the GTs I think)
2. Acc
3. Hill

Stat gains:

I'll let his results contribute to unlock progress, that's more efficient Pfft

Friday Night Lights - Senior Year (Part 7)

Sitting on the team bus, it finally crossed my mind. My gloves. I left them on the kitchen counter before my Tesla drove me to school. I texted my dad, "Hey, can you bring my gloves to the game? In the kitchen."

Then, another thing crossed my mind. My parents weren't coming to today's game. It was going to be the first one that they were going to miss because they had to catch a flight to England for the weekend — something about getting legal counsel advice for my dad's pending court case — which left my younger sister Hannah and I to fend for ourselves.

I quickly texted my dad back, "Never mind. Forgot you were leaving." And then scrolled down to Hannah in my contacts, before pausing. I couldn't do it. We just got into an argument last week about her tweaking her training schedule so she come watch my game. She refused, not wanting to give up a rare rest day.

"It's too boring, I want to hang out with my friends," I remember her saying.

Even if she wanted to bring me my gloves, me asking her to ride 30 miles round trip on her fancy bike, on a non-training day and without my parent's permission, that would just be asking for trouble. So, I refrained from even asking.

Pass me the tape, I'm going gloveless for our last regular season away game.

Really bad game by MDJ, but it's too easy to put all the fault on the missing gloves...
At least the coach doesn't all of a sudden switch QBs again ^^

I won't choose an option this time, as I've got no clue what any of those mean, sorry ^^

Monthly Review

After four years and three months, it was time to say goodbye. The moving container was packed with all our belonging, from the cheap Ikea furniture to my framed Tour de France green jersey. We have officially outgrown apartment life.

Alex Vogel, my roommate since Day 1 in the three-bedroom SEG subsidized housing complex, gave Grace and I each a hug holding back the tears in her eyes. We knew today was going to be really hard for her.

We had become such good friends over the years, and now we were leaving her behind to room with two new SEG - Quick Step teammates: Gabrielle Ashby and Jo Symons. So, it's officially becoming the all girls house.

Grace and I haven't been too vocal in our search for a new home because we weren't exactly sure what we were looking for. We just knew we needed something bigger with our baby boy scheduled to arrive next month.

We have debated for months on where we should end up. Staying in the Netherlands was the obvious choice for a while, but the housing market here didn't offer anything that we fell in love with. So we waited and kept looking.

There was a few weeks when we thought we would end up in Belgium. It offered me the opportunity to train on famous cobbled sectors almost daily. But, I couldn't convince Grace to stray that far away from our friends and family.

After a while, all the signs began pointed us back to one place.

The place we already called home: England.

Our families were ecstatic when we told them we closed on our first house.

i.imgur.com/ekpnSxX.png

The 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom house is located in Upminster, a suburban town in East London. The contemporary open floor layout feels spacious, yet homely. It offers plenty of room for our growing family, including a couple of recreational rooms for our collection of bikes/memorabilia and a pool in the garden.

It's not your over-the-top athlete "mansion" but we didn't want that per se. We wanted something low-key and discrete. But, I can still brag by saying it's a multi-million dollar house since we bought the property for a little over $2 million.

Money isn't exactly a concern nowadays. We have more of it than we know what to do with. So while some people might think it's crazy for me to pay 5,000 euros a week to train with one of my former clubs, that's just pocket change for me.

But, for a lower-league football club facing financial uncertainty, that's an offer too good to be true. I was nearly turned down by the manager because they thought I was joking. I reassured them I wasn't and paid my first month upfront.

The next day I was back on the pitch where this journey all started. I was home.

After winning the prestigious Milano - Sanremo two weeks ago, three more monuments await here in the month of April. The last and only rider to win the Milano - Sanremo and the Ronde Van Vlaanderen in the same season is legend Eddy Merckx, doing so twice in 1975 and 1969. Merckx was unable to go 3-for-3 by failing to win the following Paris - Roubaix. Let's see if I can do any better.

Oops, missed the football update with all that season-end MG stuff popping up...

Good to see some nice monument performances then Smile But I guess that on extreme level it's close to impossible to win RvV or P-R without 85Cob and great daily form :S
The L-B-L podium looks great, though - although I wonder if the win would've been within reach without that stupid crash.

Strange that he didn't win S4 of Romandie, though - he should have easily been the strongest sprinter?!? But S6 clearly showed again what's missing to fight for the win in many PT stage races, so:
