Pro cyclist - world championship
tubbygold
Hi! I've been playing Pro cyclist mode in pcm2020 for a while now, I'm in my fifth season. I'm a Danish rider, stage/climber type. This year I set the world championship as my end of season objective, to try and get into it, as I still haven't raced it yet, only the TT.

I've been trying to google my way to an answer why the race is not available. Even though I was able to set it as an objective, it does not appear in my race calendar. My rider is the strongest in his country, so it wouldn't have anything to do with rider strength. I'm a bit confused. Help?

If I'm not mistaken, the World Championship only becomes available/visible in your calendar once the national team selector has nominated the riders that will participate and has nominated you as one of those. This is unfortunately out of your control. As a climber, you will not get nominated on flat or cobblestone routes, but for sure on mountain routes and you at least have a chance on hills. If I remember correctly, you can see the route in the menu where you can select the goals, so that will give you a hint whether or not you can expect to be able to ride it in a given year.

If you want to force your way into it, I assume there are ways to do that via the editor. You can change the variant manually to one that suits you (iirc, there's a column current_variant or sth like that in the STA_race table and you can look for the name of variants in one-off race mode), which you should probably do in January before the first round of selections. I think there's also a table somewhere in the database that specifically has the data for which rider from which team will participate in which race, and you might be able to set your rider as a participant for the Worlds there. Be aware that I haven't tested either of those methods, but if that's something you want to try but struggle with, I can have a closer look to try and help.

Thank you for the quick and thorough response! Do you know how long before the race the nominations occur? Looking at the course in objectives, I can see it suits my rider really well, so I'd certainly be surprised not to be in the mix.

I think it's somewhere around the end of june, but I'm not 100% sure. I was nominated most recently as a German stage racer even on a hilly course (when I was >80 AVG though), so I would assume you'll get in as well. But you might have to wait a bit to have the guarantee. Certainly not ideal, maybe they could implement some sort of dialogue with the national coach who gives you a percentage chance at the beginning of the season or something like that, but I'm not sure that's something they have on their radar Grin

I'm in the Vuelta at the moment, so well past June. I can see in the editor the race is classified as a mountain stage, but it looks more like and insanely punchy stage, with the same quite tall, steep (12%+) hill repeated a bunch of times.

Maybe it'll show up later, hard to say. Last season the TT just showed up at some point in the calendar, but not the list on the right side of the calendar screen, where you can pick and choose.

If it doesn't show up, I'd love to know how to force my way in though, as I'd like a chance for that rainbow jersey. Smile

Yeah, it doesn't seem like there'll be too many features added anytime soon. Maybe in 10-15 years? Grin
