The Tour du Faso has been on the calendar since the 2009 MG season, and is back for it's 13th edition! The course remains the same, two moderate to hard difficulty cobbled stages sandwiching a flat stage in the middle. Lastyear's winner Baugnies is now in the PCt and is ineligible to be a part of this C2HC race and defend his title. 2019 winner Chequan Richardson is here and will look to become the first ever two-time champion of this race. Richardson, incidentally, is the only previous winner competing in this race. In the following section we will take a look at the top favourites for this race.
| FLA | RES | REC | COB | SPR | ACC | Vanspeybrouck | 74 | 68 | 67 | 80 | 65 | 66 | Vanmarcke | 75 | 70 | 66 | 79 | 69 | 70 | Van Keirsbulck | 72 | 73 | 63 | 78 | 70 | 68 | Taubel | 73 | 73 | 69 | 78 | 61 | 64 | Puccio | 72 | 71 | 64 | 78 | 60 | 55 | Naesen | 75 | 73 | 70 | 76 | 77 | 76 | Declerq | 74 | 71 | 70 | 77 | 67 | 67 | Richardson | 71 | 68 | 64 | 78 | 60 | 61 | Thwaites | 73 | 70 | 76 | 76 | 78 | 76 | Kolev | 75 | 71 | 65 | 77 | 62 | 67 | Orue | 69 | 70 | 56 | 78 | 53 | 58 | Domene | 73 | 68 | 71 | 76 | 74 | 75 | Tsatevich | 74 | 73 | 70 | 75 | 75 | 75 |
We have already spoken about Richardson, and although it might be tough for him for repeat his 2019 win, he should still be a viable Top 10 contender and can even aim for a Top 5 with good form.
However, it's three 'Van's at the top of the favourites' list. Vanspeybrouck, with his slightly superior pure cobbles skill has been tipped by the bookies to win this race. Vanmarcke and Van Keirsbulck should be his closest competitors, and are also the next best cobbles riders in this race. All three of these riders have somewhat been usurped by the Crabbe-CC brigade this season, and would like to make amends here.
Speaking of the Crabbe-CC brigade, a total of four riders from the team are in our favourites' list, and whether it is together or singly, they are capable of causing massive damage to the pack on the cobbles. Naesen, Declerq, Domene and Tsatevich are a fearsome foursome, and with Ariesen and Manakov also waiting in the wings, things are expected to heat up!
Taubel and Puccio are optional number 2/superdomestqiues for Pas Normal Studios and HelloFresh respectively, and their cobbles ability puts them up there with the Top 5 contenders for this race. Their individual results might be somewhat limited with their support duties though. Thwiates is option number three for HelloFresh, making them the second best squad to line up for this race.
Kolev is another Top 10 contender, while also being the chief lieutenant for Vanspeybrouck. Orue represents BNZ's best chance at a Top 10 placing or better in this race.
| FLA | RES | SPR | ACC | Appollonio | 74 | 66 | 81 | 78 | Avelino | 69 | 63 | 81 | 75 | Bouhanni | 74 | 69 | 80 | 77 | Kristoff | 72 | 66 | 80 | 74 | Keukeleire | 71 | 66 | 79 | 77 | Abdul Halil | 68 | 66 | 79 | 77 | Meyer | 71 | 63 | 79 | 74 | Ciolek | 71 | 63 | 79 | 73 | Drapac | 70 | 63 | 79 | 77 | Marin | 74 | 73 | 78 | 78 | King | 75 | 71 | 78 | 73 | Thwaites | 73 | 70 | 78 | 76 | Losch | 73 | 68 | 78 | 79 | Sanikwathi | 72 | 67 | 78 | 78 | Bauhaus | 74 | 65 | 78 | 75 |
Stage 2 is one for the sprinters and the riders mentioned above are the top contenders for the win on that stage.
Appolonio is the top favourite for the flat stage, with a clear sprinting advantage over his competitors.
Avelino has had a decent season so far and he will be looking to continue that form in this race. Strange that Gjensidige have chosen to bring both their top sprinters to this race! Not much to separate him from Bouhanni and Kristoff though, as both riders are almost equally capable from an overall sprinting perspective.
A long list of possible stage winners follow after that but it just maybe a stage that helps Naesen the most, despite his 'slower' to speed, especially if the incline just before the finish come into play.

We will not be here if the race was not mandatory. Well, we are hoping for a good stage from Marin, a good placement on the 2nd stage has to be our main goal. The breakaway is also our main objective since when I see cobbles my vision goes dark.
Thank you for the preview and good luck everyone! |

Nice preview that and appreciate posting it prior to being away!
Hoping that Ovsya can deliver some points here although I’m not too optimistic given his relative weakness on the cobbles when compared to the main favourites.
I also hope he and Abdul Halil can deliver something in the sprints!

Limited expectations for Glanbia.
Corwin and Teggart maybe in the mix for top 20. Interesting to see King and Meyer in the sprinters' list.
Thanks and good luck all

Only subjected 6 of my guys to this torture. Maybe Rathe can put in one good stage but we are really just here for the tourism. Or perhaps a nice sprint from Walscheid, he doesn't make the list but there are a lot of flawed riders on that list.

Whoopwhoopp, what a great cobble race for us, reminiscient of our past Strava 1.0 days. Sanikwath and Sbaragli on the podium and Nielsen even in making the Top 10 still. A great race day for us, hopefully we can avert the leader jersey curse and also be competitive on day 2. Many thanks for the report, Abhishek!

Disappointing but not surprising we couldn't stick with the best cobblers today. 2 more days to make some sort of impact but those teams that are strong on Cobblestones are very strong

Great start to this one for young Ovsya who has held on well over the cobbles and got a very solid 4th given he had no support at all.
Tomorrow his attention turns to supporting Abdul Halil in a stage that should be decided in a sprint.
Thank you for the report! And congrats to Strava, massive start to the race for them.

Happy for Strava! In terms of GC aspirations we made the cut effortlessly so now no disasters on stage 2 and then hopefully a lot of points picked up on stage 3! Thanks for the report!

Hmm, that is the one stage I would hope Rathe would be competitive on, and given he is a better cobbler than any of the guys on the podium that doesn't seem to have been a crazy expectation. But group 3 and way out of contention for him.
You needed to have the speed to be consider a threat for the win to get positioning. And some teammates would probably help as well.
Oh well, wasn't rally expecting anything out of this race.
Congrats to Strava and thanks for the report.

We are in a very strange spot. In Chile our riders couldn't be bothered with anything, here Marin couldn't be bothered with the sprint. This was our only chance for some pints, but since this race didn't suit us from the start there is no major loss. It's good though that we are active in the breakaways, it was something we wished for.
Congratulations, Ulrich, on the stage win and thank you for the report!

You called it Ulrich, congrats.
I'm not saying tomorrow's stage will be tough but none of my riders finished it in 2019. In fact the word "faso" is still banned in Glanbia HQ because on hearing it some of my veterans collapse into a ball and start crying for hours!
So, no great expectations here !

Yeah, so having a leadout with the (on paper) two best sprinters is not a good thing i guess?
Congrats Ulrich, this one stings a bit
