Reports will come from me but thanks to Hillis for stepping in to to do the preview below.
USA Pro Cycling Challenge
Year | Winner | Team | 2020 | M. Pelucchi | Sotto il sole di Riccione | 2019 | D. Holloway | McCormick | 2018 | J. Guarnieri | Delvaux | 2016 | S. Tvetcov | cycleYorkshire | 2015 | J. Novak | In-n-Out | 2014 | E. Daspuntsag | Gazelle | 2013 | A. Kashechkin | Repsol-Cativen |
Welcome to the 8th edition of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. This majestic race used to be more of a climbers race with as many as 8 stages, back in the good old days. Now'a'days it's a sprinters race across 4 days. The race kicks off with a short prologue, where a specialist can take the lead and try to hold on to it for 3 hard days. Or, a sprinter can get himself into shooting distance and grab it in the mass sprints over the next 3 days. Possibilities are endless, so therifor, let's look at some pre-race favorites.
Favorites | SP | AC | FL | Lead-Out | SP | AC | FL | | Keough | 79 | 79 | 73 | Walscheid | 77 | 77 | 71 | | Vanderbiest | 81 | 75 | 73 | Liepins | 78 | 79 | 73 | | Appollonio | 81 | 78 | 74 | Bauhaus | 78 | 75 | 74 | | Jakobsen | 80 | 80 | 74 | Ovsyannikov | 77 | 76 | 72 | | Kristoff | 80 | 74 | 72 | Matthews | 79 | 79 | 76 | | Bouhanni | 80 | 77 | 74 | Felline | 74 | 78 | 68 | | Boivin | 79 | 80 | 74 | Marin | 78 | 78 | 74
Keough has to be the hands down favorite on paper. The man can ride prologues aswell as he can sprint. He needs a few seconds in hand before the sprinting starts, as the sprints in 2021 has been a lottery. No team with a clear "train" on paper coming into the race. So this might be another messy sprinters race.
Outsiders | SP | AC | FL | Jokers | FL | RS | FT | Vingerling | 79 | 79 | 71 | Ratto | 79 | 66 | 55 | Selig | 79 | 81 | 71 | Castrillo | 77 | 72 | 71 | Wippert | 78 | 82 | 70 | Campenaerts | 71 | 73 | 78 | King | 78 | 73 | 75 | Kuznetsov | 76 | 73 | 76 | Drapac | 79 | 77 | 70 | Riesebeek | 74 | 75 | 76 |
Since the 2021 season has been a bit of a lottery, the list of pre-race favorites and outsiders should be a mile long. But, we feel the names above are good names to put some money on in a sprint finish.
Prologue | PL | FL | RS | Prologue | PL | FL | RS | | Keough | 80 | 73 | 73 | Li | 78 | 75 | 68 | | Thomas | 79 | 73 | 73 | Van Winden | 77 | 71 | 65 | | Cosnefroy | 78 | 76 | 81 | Marchewka | 77 | 65 | 75 | | Campenaerts | 78 | 71 | 73 | Meyer | 77 | 71 | 63 | | Mottin | 78 | 68 | 73 | Daniel | 76 | 75 | 74
With the begining of this race, aswell as possibilities of a late attack. The riders above might also prove themself usefull. Either by winning the first day or even with a late attack.
Spoiler Jakobsen | Fabio | Aramco DP | Cosnefroy | Benoit | Aramco DP | Ovsyannikov | Alexandr | Aramco DP | Castrillo | Jaime | Aramco DP | Thomas | Benjamin | Aramco DP | Thijssen | Gerben | Aramco DP | Sureda | Jaume | Aramco DP | Noia | Carlo | Aramco DP | Wippert | Wouter | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Bevin | Patrick | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Weber | Sascha | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Orue | German Anibal | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Gillett | Rhys | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Scott | Cameron | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Marryatt | Jake | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Gough | Regan | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Barta | William | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Ludvigsson | Fredrik | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Marchewka | Krzysztof | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Philipsen | Jasper | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Kiskonen | Siim | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Visser | Louis | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Szarka | Gergely | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Lauk | Karl Patrick | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Vanderbiest | Romain | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Liepins | Emils | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Campenaerts | Victor | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Kulikovskiy | Alexandr | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Vandousselaere | Sven | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Van Tricht | Stan | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Drizners | Jarrad | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Blouwe | Louis | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Cimolai | Davide | Eddie Stobart | Bogdanovics | Maris | Eddie Stobart | Drapac | Damion | Eddie Stobart | Berger | Hakon Frengstad | Eddie Stobart | Ciolek | Gerald | Eddie Stobart | Malacarne | Davide | Eddie Stobart | Dahlberg | Linus | Eddie Stobart | Joeaar | Gert | Eddie Stobart | Appollonio | Davide | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Daniel | Gregory | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Bauhaus | Phil | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Li | Wen Hao | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Ratto | Daniele | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Fejes | Gabor | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Zingle | Axel | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Finkler | Leonardo Henrique | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | Craddock | Lawson | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | King | Ben | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | Meyer | Cameron | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | Corwin | Dadley | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | Teggart | Matthew | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | McCarthy | Eoin | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | Richardson | Ian | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | Cote | Pier-Andre | Glanbia Foods Cycling Project | Vingerling | Michael | HelloFresh | Thwaites | Scott | HelloFresh | Riesebeek | Oscar | HelloFresh | De Vos | Adam | HelloFresh | Tikhonin | Evgenii | HelloFresh | Walls | Matthew | HelloFresh | Novikov | Savva | HelloFresh | Keough | Luke | McCormick Pro Cycling | Walscheid | Maximilian | McCormick Pro Cycling | Rathe | Jakob | McCormick Pro Cycling | Granigan | Noah | McCormick Pro Cycling | Rojus | Adomaitis | McCormick Pro Cycling | Van Winden | Dennis | McCormick Pro Cycling | Chaiyasombat | Thanakhan | McCormick Pro Cycling | Januskevicius | Mantas | McCormick Pro Cycling | Matthews | Michael | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Prasad | Darshana | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Kristoff | Alexander | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Van Poppel | Boy | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Christapopoulos | Pangiotis | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Shevchenko | Oleksandr | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Johansen | Julius | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Price-Pejtersen | Johan | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Felline | Fabio | Strava | Bouhanni | Nacer | Strava | Hansen | Jesper | Strava | Nielsen | Joanis Albert | Strava | Kuznetsov | Vyacheslav | Strava | Oelerich | Jan | Strava | Kluge | Roger | Strava | Oss | Daniel | Strava | Pavlic | Marko | Tafjord Kraft | Ranneries | Christian | Tafjord Kraft | Mahdar | Martin | Tafjord Kraft | Schorn | Daniel | Tafjord Kraft | Johannessen | Anders Halland | Tafjord Kraft | Hvideberg | Jonas Iversby | Tafjord Kraft | Andersen | Idar | Tafjord Kraft | Lunder | Eirik | Tafjord Kraft | Vanspeybrouck | Pieter | Trans Looney Tunes | Selig | Rüdiger | Trans Looney Tunes | Korosec | Rok | Trans Looney Tunes | Pibernik | Luka | Trans Looney Tunes | Krasnoperov | Mikayil | Trans Looney Tunes | Geniez | Alexandre | Trans Looney Tunes | Mottin | Hugues | Trans Looney Tunes | Boivin | Guillaume | Volcanica - Fox | Marin | Gabriel | Volcanica - Fox | Herrada | Jesus | Volcanica - Fox | Gonzalez Cortes | Josue | Volcanica - Fox | Jorgenson | Matteo | Volcanica - Fox | Jurado | Cristofer Robin | Volcanica - Fox | Rojas | Henry Antonio | Volcanica - Fox | Jimenez Retana | John | Volcanica - Fox |

Thank you for the preview hillis and looking forward to the reports!
Given the history of this version of the game and sprinter favourites, I’m a little concerned about the success Jakobsen could have here. If my team controls the race well and Jakobsen sprints properly, he should be nailed on for a Top 3.
Would be good for us if Keough wins Stage 1 so we avoid the Leaders jersey going into Stage 2.

Still can't get over that I didn't bring Bennett or Nelson here . Am hoping King will step up. Dream scenario is Meyer getting a good prologue and GC

Thanks for the preview, praying that Vingerling is able to utilize his outsider status to produce some great results!

Always a big one for us and once again the win goal. Slightly different route means it doesn't start in our sponsor's home town this year but it does visit it.
None of the other top sprinters close to Keough in the prologue so he ought to be able to build a little advantage and then with average to good sprints hold that. If it wasn't for the GC sprint issue I would feel really good about our chances with that.
Last year he didn't sprint once and put in a good epilouge and still finished 5th. So maybe this year he can fall back enough before the last stage to actually sprint that one.
Thanks for the preview.

Thanks for the preview. Another "hoping for a breakaway" stage race for us. Starting to be a routine by now |

Bit too early for us to have the GC lead tbh but hard to be unhappy with a great opening stage from Cosnefroy!
Noia with a very surprising 5th as well. Makes up for the poor performance from Thomas and slightly disappointing one from Castrillo.
Most disappointing has to be Jakobsen 59 seconds back. His PRO stat really isn't that bad but this does almost rule him out of GC contention. We will indeed have to rethink the plans and it may include some late attacks from the likes of Cosnefroy and Thomas in the latter stages of this race.
Will be interesting to see how the AI handles our team now with our Team Leader out of contention but other team leader in the GC lead

Craddock really on fire in the Time Trials this year but Aramco pip us, well done Cosnefroy and LLS.
Meyer is well positioned if he gets a lucky sprint day, Hopefully AI priorities him over King

Not the worst of starts here.
Lovely to see Idar doing so well in his debut season.
Schorn well placed as well if he can manage something in the sprints.
Thanks for the report |

Well that was terrible from Keough. Guess I don't need to worry about him not sprinting due to being in the GC lead.
Still some upsides: a great performance from Granigan so still get some points from the stage. And Keough had one total disaster of a prologue last year as well and won the next two.
We made the prologues a little longer to reduce the randomness of the very short ones where 15 guys finish on the same time but might have made them a little too long bringing in TT stat too much. I think 4-5k is the sweet spot. Although TTs do have a big daily form variance this year anyway.
Congrats to Glanbia and thanks for the report.

Thanks! Solid stage result by Bouhanni, was all alone but hang on well to the sprint leadouts.

The team is on its own the last couple of races. After a busy schedule for the first part of the year the team manager is now starting his recovery from the COVID virus.
I misjudged the time loss for Boivin on his race, so one of our year's main goals is in danger. But after all, the sponsors demanded a good showing in the US. Nonetheless, Boivin got boxed in in the sprint and still managed to get a 5th. I am happy with that and hoping he can manage a stage win here. I am keeping my fingers crossed for that. Jorgenson with the KOM jersey is another great positive. Perhaps he could fight for this classification until the end, that would be a delight as well. |

Get well soon DarkWolf
Craddock holding onto 2nd is very encouraging, hopefully only a couple of sprinters within touching distance, The race isn't technically a goal but any American race is a priority
