Welcome to the 2021 Lincoln GP! The riders will tackle 157km of very difficult terrain, traversing over hills and cobbles. They’ll make 12 ascents of a very technical cobbled climb before a tough uphill finish also on cobbled roads. This will be an all-CT affair as it’s classified as C2HC, so the best cobbled riders in the division will be looking to show their might. The racing will be tough and judging by previous editions, only the strongest will survive to the finish.
The Lincoln GP has a storied history, and this year is a milestone for the race being its 10th edition! Seeing as nobody has ever won this race more than once, we may also see records broken as we have 2 former winners taking part – Tsatevich and Vanspeybrouck. Interestingly, both these riders’ victories are special as Vanspeybrouck won the very first edition of this race, and Tsatevich won the most recent edition. They will also both be entering the race as top favourites, so should go close.
| HIL | COB | SPR | ACC | RES | Vanspeybrouck | 69 | 80 | 65 | 66 | 68 | Vanmarcke | 65 | 79 | 69 | 70 | 70 | Orue | 64 | 78 | 53 | 58 | 70 | Richardson | 67 | 78 | 60 | 61 | 68 | Van Keirsbulck | 71 | 78 | 70 | 68 | 73 | Puccio | 66 | 78 | 60 | 55 | 71 | Taubel | 65 | 78 | 61 | 64 | 73 | Declerq | 73 | 77 | 67 | 67 | 71 | Taillefour | 56 | 77 | 53 | 54 | 69 | Kolev | 62 | 77 | 62 | 67 | 71 | Naesen | 72 | 76 | 77 | 76 | 73 | Domene | 57 | 76 | 74 | 75 | 68 | Corwin | 65 | 76 | 54 | 54 | 62 | Thwaites | 65 | 76 | 78 | 76 | 70 | Tsatevich | 77 | 75 | 75 | 75 | 73 | Manakov | 58 | 75 | 72 | 76 | 68 | Ariesen | 68 | 75 | 70 | 71 | 73 | Kumara | 67 | 75 | 71 | 67 | 70 | Kristoff | 65 | 75 | 80 | 74 | 66 | Abraha | 64 | 75 | 74 | 72 | 71 | Ovsyannikov | 68 | 74 | 77 | 76 | 72 | Weber | 66 | 74 | 76 | 75 | 67 | Nielsen | 67 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 75 |
The top favourites here are the two previous winners – Vanspeybrouck and Tsatevich.
Vanspeybrouck may be getting on, but you wouldn’t know it looking at recent performances - especially his recent win at the Geraardsbergen – Bosberg where he beat most of the same competitors he has here. He still has all the skills and raw power required to win, as well as being one of the better riders suited to the hills too. He brings with him a very strong team – Kolev and Abraha (who finished 2nd in 2019) – who could both realistically aim for top-10 results themselves. Vanspeybrouck will be hoping to add another victory to his impressive palmares here.
Tsatevich rode and won here with a very strong Carrefour team last year, but comes here *somehow* with an even stronger Crabbe team this time around. He’s probably the rider best suited to the parcours on paper. His supporting cast (if it can even be called that) is immense - Declerq, Manakov, Naesen, Ariesen and Domene. All can believably take line honours on their day too, especially Declerq who is strong over the hills and has finished 4th in this race previously in 2014 (curiously finishing one place behind then teammate Silvio Herklotz, in a cobbled race!). Naesen (who also finished 2nd here last year) and Ariesen are both multi-talented and with their versatility will provide their manager great flexibility to adapt to almost any possible race outcome. Crabbe have a ridiculous team and anything less than a podium and a heavy presence in the top-10 must be considered a disappointment.
Van Keirsbulck is the leader of the third of four super strong teams here. There’s not much to say about him you wouldn’t already know, you know exactly what you’re getting with him. He has a great chance to deny the former two the race win record and himself join the illustrious list of winners here. His ability over the hills is decent, so he should easily be able to stay with the other contenders over the climbs. Puccio is a superb lieutenant and may even aim for a good result himself. Thwaites and Kumara will also be invaluable support for GVK which should help him fight for the win.
Vanmarcke comes here in good form after a 2nd in the GP Herning & Gent – Wevelgem and 6th in Geraardsbergen – Bosberg. Like Vanspeybrouck he’s lost some of his power this season but by no means should be discounted here. He’s an old fashioned, hardy classics rider and is usually very hard to drop – he mightn’t be the best over the hills but can put up a hell of a fight. His support is also fantastic - Taubel makes a great lieutenant/secondary leader and Kristoff as road captain should inspire his younger compatriots as the veteran classics rider has nearly done it all.
Orue and Richardson both have similar skills. They are set apart by Orue’s bigger engine, which should serve him well here. Both riders aren’t the best over the hills (with Richardson being the better of the two) but aren’t the worst either. If they have the legs on the day, it would not be at all surprising to see either rider fighting for the victory.
Taillefour, Ovsyannikov and Corwin arrive here with little support, almost as lone rangers. The former should struggle big time over the hills and will probably only find himself on the top step of the podium if the racing is easy so he can try his hand at an attack late on. The latter will be hoping the same, but like Taillefour probably lacks the punch to make a difference. Ovsyannikov isn’t the strongest pure cobbler here at all, but if he happens to be feeling good come race day he has a huge engine, great kick and is fast. He could definitely surprise a few. Nielsen is another rider who on his day could make things interesting as he's also very well rounded.

The Lincoln GP has always been a hard race for the toughest competitors – and it should be the same again this year. In a decade, never has there been a group sprint finish (2019 did have a group of 4 duke it out at the finish however). Look for the strong men like Vanspeybrouck and Vanmarcke to power away towards the finish, or for Tsatevich to glide away over the hills to the line.

Would love if Crabbe can pull of another one by using their numbers, but I think an uphill-cobbled sprint could be the one and I love Tsatevich for that.
How many teams are participating? Looks like a small startlist that could make the race a slow one.

Thanks for the great preview Eden.
Hilly cobbles are McCormick kryptonite so whoever I made come here will no doubt suffer.

Thanks for the mention for Corwin, I'll take it as sympathy
If anybody will score points for Glanbia here it will be Teggart. A top 25 finish would be a good outcome

Hopeful that Ovsya can get a nice result here but if the cobbles are ridden hard then I don’t see him in the Top 5. We shall see how it goes!! Thank you for the preview and looking forward to the race!

After a fairly disappointing Roma I am expecting a much better result here, thanks for a great preview! Also the more the season go on I am damning the existence of Vanspeybrouck, Vanmarcke and Crabbe in CT, while it's nice to have some exciting competition in the division it has really but a hold on the scoring opportunities of GVK!

Really didn't think we'd had a chance to get points here, so Bugge in 12th is a great surprise for us!
Thanks for the report! |

And this time Richardson finishes in Top 10 - considering that this team isn't Crabbe, Trans, HelloFresh or Pas, I call it a small win for the team. KP Lauk also got solid ranking points and was in the breakaway

Thanks, a solid team performance around the Top 25, but no one in the Top 10 is too bad. Guess we'll need one or two proper cbs leaders next year to make good of the lower tier support power, too.

Our nemesis... the cobbles. Still, it's the second race on such terrain where my valiant riders show spirit and ambition, Jurado and Rojas offer the team some points here and we do not end up empty handed. Great to see young Rojas for the 2nd time on cobbles getting some points.
Congratulations, Laurens! Your team is a beast that strikes fear into its opponents on the cobbles. |

I was a bit scared for Vanspeybrouck that it will be this race to hard because of small climbs but at the end it was really nice.
Fo Kolev I have a bit mixed feelings. For last races I 'm quite dissapinted on his performance but even that he was strugling in between the race he found the right evergy and could really finish close to the first group which is a bit of miracle compare to prvous races.
Thanks for previev and report
