Gisborne GP
Andre
Ruben
Maher
Sureda
Carlo
Hester
Julian
Target: Top 5
We start our season in the beautiful New Zealand during the heat of summer in the hills of the East Cape. As a C2HC race, we expect strong competition but believe that Andre suits the race well and so expect him to be fighting at the front at the end.
Hong Kong Challenge
Andre
Ruben
Jaime
Maher
Sureda
Carlo
Hester
Julian
Target: Top 10
A C1 stage race which includes a TT. It'll be tough for Andre to break the Top 10 but we hope that he can do so. We send Jaime to focus on the TT stage in the hope that he finds limited competition for the stage win.
Clasico San Jose
Andre
Ruben
Maher
GT
Sureda
Carlo
Hester
Julian
Target: Top 3
The C2 one day hilly classic gives Andre another great opportunity. Given the points available, we anticipate less competition than in NZ but still don't expect Andre to be a favourite. However, we believe he should fight for a podium. |

Some nice ambitions. I wouln't mind a Paez overperformance in Southland to take some points away from my PCT rivals You can leave the sprints to Maksimov though

Points wise and stage wise quite a great race for you of course. Just sad for you to see Mas crash that hard in the final km of the race :/ Still, your team clearly showed they are ready to go back to PCT.

Race Highlight: Circulo de Juarez
Stage 2
After nothing on Stage 1, Jakobsen gets in the mix for 5th on Stage 2. He moves to 8th in the GC, 7th in the Points and 1st in the U25s.
Stage 3
He was in a position to push for a strong result but he had to settle for 7th. He drops to 9th in the GC, 8th in the Points but holds his lead in the U25s.
Stage 4
It's another there and there abouts stage as he takes 8th. He unfortunately drops outside the Top 10 in the GC and down to 10th in the Points but maintains his lead in the U25s.
Stage 5
700m to go and he's in 5th which isn't the best position but also not the worst.
A similar position with 400m to go. Can he find a late burst of energy?
He looks to push further up with 200m to go! Could he get a podium?
He'd need a big push from here...!
And he manages to steal 3rd on the line!!
A great podium on the final stage meant 4th in the GC for our star sprinter!! Another fantastic GC result following up his efforts in Barbados. He also takes 4th in the Points classification and takes a win in the U25s reinforcing his status as one of the best young sprinters in the world!
A great points haul for the team in a C1 race and Jakobsen continues his charge towards the CT Individual Rider Title. |

Tour of California
Hard work on the front from Paez on Stage 2 didn't quite pay off as Mas finished 8th on the Stage putting him 7th in the GC.
A hilly stage 3 worked out very well for us as Paez and Mas went 2nd and 3rd with Fernandez and Borisavljevic 9th and 10th as well. This propelled Mas to 3rd in the GC.
On the final stage we attempted attacks with Mas but it was too late and he finished in a group of 13 in 7th with Borisavljevic 8th.
In the end it was a little disappointing but Mas ended up 4th in the GC with Borisavljevic 5th. Paez 13th and Fernandez 19th doing a great job throughout as domestiques.
Baltic Chain Tour
Stage 1
The opening stage was a cobbled prologue. Thomas, not good on the pavee, managed 10th. Jakobsen in 22nd limiting his time losses.
Stage 2
The team did get involved in the sprint with a lead-out train through the middle here.
But in the end he was left to fight alone for too long and Jakobsen could only manage 10th.
Stage 3
2.5kms to go and again we put a train together.
1.7km now and we still had a lead-out in place.
Under the kite and Jakobsen was biding his time.
But in the end he could only manage 4th in a strong field where he didn't quite have the kick. This did move him up the GC though.
Stage 4
No train today as Jakobsen (in white) was well positioned coming up to the kite.
700m to go and he eyed a gap between the Minions riders.
400m and showing good pace on the right-hand side.
AND HE WON THE STAGE by a bike length! He moved into the GC lead with this win holding a 10 second gap going into the final stage.
Stage 5
Jakobsen not involved in the sprint on the final day and ended up 13th on the stage.
BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER AS OUR SPRINTER SENSATION WON THE GC! Winning Stage 4 and a good result on Stage 3 was all it took in the end as he won the GC by 8 seconds.
This win along with 3rd in the Points Classification and 1st in the U25s meant a very heavy points scoring race for the Dutchman
USA Pro Cycling Challenge
It's Goal Race time where our goal is to finish in the Top 5 of the GC.
Stage 1
Cosnefroy put in a magnificent effort as he won the opening stage by 6 seconds!
Jakobsen a minute behind which rules him out of GC contention really. Noia best young rider though as he managed 5th on the stage!
Stage 2
Thomas provided a powerful lead-out in the sprint.
But in the end it was disappointing as Jakobsen only managed 6th on the stage.
[
Stage 3
Another poor effort from Jakobsen as he was only 7th on the stage. In the GC, Cosnefroy only 6 seconds clear of 2nd with 1 stage remaining.
Stage 4
Jakobsen left to fight early in the sprint but he did have the lead with 800m to go.
He could only manage 8th on the stage.
And in the end Cosnefroy was level with Matthews on time but Matthews won the GC on countback so we had to settle for 2nd. It's disappointing because if Jakobsen had done better on the final stage, or one of the others, then we would have had a GC Win but..
GOAL ACHIEVED
We can't complain too much with that. We also finished 2nd in the Teams classification. Young loanee, Carlo Noia, also performed well as he took 10th in the GC and 2nd in the U25s.
In the end it was a very good points scoring month for us. Our team enjoyed the USA with 4th/5th in California and 2nd in the USAPCC. But the big highlight was definitely Jakobsen's GC win in the C1 Baltic Chain Tour. This one will live long in the memory of us and our fans. |

I have to be honest, I am not very sorry for how Tour of California turned out for Mas since Amador won it.
Congratulations on winning the Baltic Chain Tour and for achieving the goal at USA Pro Cycling Challenge! Your team is on fire and deservedly so.

PRESS RELEASE: Sponsors Gone
We are gathered today to make an announcement on the future of this team.
Following lengthy discussions between General Manager, Luis Leon Sanchez, and representatives of our Sponsors, Saudi Aramco and DP World, the team would like to take this opportunity to announce that these discussions have resulted in the decisions being made to mutually terminate the sponsorship deals of both companies.
Despite the likelihood that the team will return to the Pro Continental Tour next season, both sponsors felt that there was misalignment in terms of the regional focus of the team which GM, Luis, was willing to admit would not be addressed in the near future.
GM, Luis, was hopeful that fans which supported the team in the Euskaltel days would stick with the team following the change 2 years ago but this hasn't been the case.
Luis and his team are now on the hunt for new sponsors and will be having internal discussions to decide on the strategic approach of the team going into 2022 and beyond.
Riders under contract have been re-assured that there will be no financial constraints going into next season which would put their futures at the team in doubt. |

To say it was a successful season in terms of results would be an understatement. We've finished the 2021 Season 2nd in the Continental Tour. In the end our title challenge fell short, by 400 points, but we are a clear 2nd, by about 700 points.
The season's wins are listed below. The highlights, of course, being Jakobsen's GC win off the back of a stage win in the C1 Baltic Chain Tour, Thomas's GC win in the C1 Olympia's Tour and Cosnefroy's goal achieving GC win in the Herald Sun Tour.
We also won 12 individual stages with 5 different stage winners + 2 TTTs.
Staying true to our beliefs, our riders also won the U25 classification 6 times along with the Points twice, the Teams twice and a lone KOM win as well.

Our 2nd place in the CT Rankings was off the back of some outstanding individual performances throughout the season.
The stand-out rider for us this season was, without doubt, Fabio Jakobsen. The 25yr old Dutch sprinter was a huge threat in HC and C1 races which saw him amass 649 points to put him top of the CT Individual Rider Rankings.
Our highly paid Spaniard, Enric Mas, may be disappointed that he didn't manage to win a Stage Race this season but he was consistently at the pointy end which saw him take 4th, only behind Amador in terms of Stage Racers.
A rider who caught the eye of many last season while on loan in the PT enjoyed success again this year. That rider is Benoit Cosnefroy. The well-rounded French TTist really had quite an amazing season with a fantastic ending lifting him up to 6th in the rankings, also breaking the 400 point mark.
Quite amazingly, the surprise package of the CT, was Benjamin Thomas. He's not quite as well-rounded as his French compatriot but he's still full of quality. He ended up 15th in the rankings, managing over 300 points!
We start to drop off somewhat with Andres Paez down in 31st. He had a tough field in the Hills this season but still managed some respectable one day classic results.
A disappointing season for our Serbian, Milos Borisavljevic, who was often riding for Mas. He didn't make it to 200 points which sees him down in 40th.
A solid first season for our newest arrival, Alexandr Ovsyannikov. He picked up 131 points.
It's then TT galore as Jaime Castrillo scored fairly well, while the 2nd surprise package of the team was loanee Carlo Noia who almost cracked 100 points!
The rest of the team also contributed as only rider didn't score a point. That was however one of our 2 stagiares in Sam. Shout out to Kawasaki who managed a single point.
| | Points | Ranking | | Fabio Jakobsen | 649 | 1 | | Enric Mas | 450 | 4 | | Benoit Cosnefroy | 416 | 6 | | Benjamin Thomas | 313 | 15 | | Andres Paez | 218 | 31 | | Milos Borisavljevic | 171 | 40 | | Alexandr Ovsyannikov | 131 | 56 | | Jaime Castrillo | 111 | 65 | | Carlo Noia | 97 | 73 | | Ruben Fernandez | 79 | 84 | | Mohamad Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil | 66 | 95 | | Maher Hasnaoui | 35 | 144 | | Julian Cardona | 17 | 187 | | Gerben Thijssen | 10 | 212 | | Jules Hesters | 5 | 229 | | Jaume Sureda | 2 | 244 | | Miori Kawasaki | 1 | 249 | | Henry Alberto Sam | 0 | - |
Team Standings - Top 5: 2nd
Easily achieved in the end. We were confident that this would be very achievable and it became apparent early on that this would be the case.
Herald Sun Tour - Win: 1st Cosnefroy & 2nd Thomas
We left one of our win goals till very late in the season which ramped up the excitement in October. Not only did Cosnefroy win it, along with the TT, we actually took home a 1-2 after Thomas came 2nd in the race deciding TT. Abdul Halil also popped up to win Stage 1!
USA Pro Cycling Challenge - Top 5: 2nd Cosnefroy
One of the earlier goals of our season. Cosnefroy got off to a fantastic start by winning the short opening TT. He lost the GC win on the final day on countback but came away with 2nd place.
Course de Solidarnosc - Top 5: 4th Jakobsen
The one race we needed Jakobsen to perform in and he did enough as winning Stage 3 helped him to finish a fairly comfortably 4th.
Monterrey TTT - Win: 4th
Logistics issues saw only 6 riders attending this one which cost us dearly as we only managed 4th.
Overall, achieving 4 out of 5 goals is a magnificent feat (18/23 Goal Points). We should be well rewarded come the Transfer Season to support our plans for 2022.
We will provide more in-depth reviews into the seasons of our individual riders at a later date. |
