They'll be easy to spot in the peloton for sure! Pretty happy with signing those two, they are an incredibly solid base for building for future seasons regardless of the outcome of this one!

It's all about the race planning for you. If you can find the right races for Kump I think he'll make sure you won't relegate. If you get unlucky you could be in trouble. I love the depth, and Dyrnes and Grmay indeed are sweet signings. Plan around Kump and attacks and I love your teams destination next season.

Absolutely, it's going to be a really engaging season to watch compared to last year where it was just waiting for Faiers to top 5 a GC. Planning is proving to be a bit of a nightmare right now tho!

I feel you're far from doomed and actually have a decent chance of surviving. Your team has way more depth than mine had last year and we're both relying on one super leader to get the job done Pfft

Beltran is a bit of a different beast, but yes very comparable scenarios indeed, obviously I can only hope for the best!

A Fresh start

With the 2020 season coming to a close with Dyrnes’ 4th place finish at Japan Cup it became clear that neither Nordstrom or CA were interested in sponsoring a CT team next year, and since we were unable to stay up, WJSM had to think about what the plan was for the team moving forward.

Was it time to reassess the team’s national focus and completely giving up on Canadian cycling, with no prospects in the pipeline for the near future or was it time to start thinking about a new outlook for the team? With a lot of space opening up across various European markets after the latest round of news regarding Spanish outfit Desigual’s manager taking an offer from e-cycling market leaders Zwift which would most likely see the team focusing more on North American talent and Podium Ambition also losing a major Spanish sponsor in Movistar, it would seem logical to pursue those markets instead. However, manager WJ has had limited success with Spanish riders as leaders with David de la Cruz not performing well enough and then asking for an obscene wage, it was not a market that he was willing to focus on, and with no sponsor offers coming in from any Spanish companies this market was not an option. Maybe the abovementioned deals being cut was a sign of the current climate towards cycling sponsorship in the region?

Another recent announcement in the space was the closing of beloved Scandinavian team Volvo acc. by Spotify, and whilst WJSM had previously had a Scandinavian title sponsor in NENT, there was no real rush to move back into the space as the market in that region was already too contested for it to matter.

This led the manager to scout for sponsors that would be interested in covering the entirety of Europe as their base, with the team never really being built around a particular nationality this would be the approach that WJSM would decide to go with. And one day, a particularly tasty offer ticked in from our partnership manager, German meal kit company HelloFresh was interested in sponsoring the team in a deal that would see the team race under German license while still being able to help further Canadian cycling. There will be no other title sponsor, but it is expected that long term partners such as AirCanada will be staying with the team at the same level of engagement of previous years.

Congratulations on the new sponsor! Nice to read AirCanada will still be engaged as well. And even though it might be unlikely that Nordstrom stays up, never say never Smile

Nice sponsor. Didnt even know Hello Fresh was German but its quite big here, so would make sense continuing Canadian focus, even if its a bit less than before.

Good luck with the rebrand of your team Smile

We're not in any of the remaining races so our points tally is stagnant compared to our opponents who still have races to come. Definitely nice to have a new sponsor willing to help bring the team forward!

I was quite surprised as well! They acquired Candian meal kit company Chef's plate in 2018, so that could be the reason why! Also the Canadian focus will depend on the riders available, and with very few Canadian prospects coming through the pipeline it's going to be a tough few years once Boivin etc. starts to decline!

You should try adding something to the New Riders Suggestions [2021]! Had a quick glance on google and found 10 riders in the right age range to be added this year, and i only got to "C" in the alphabet!
AC would love some more company and challenge, and i always have more than a soft spot for a Canadian sponsor and riders. Although i've used my suggestions focus elsewhere this year Pfft

Hopefully next season can turn things around again and we'll see you charging upfront again!

Working on suggestions atm.

While I aim to be at the forefront at the CT next year, I could see myself going for a two year rebuild depending on how renewals pan out!

Hopefully these sponsorship announcements don't put a dent in my plans Pfft

Most likely shouldn't considering that I am not aiming to build a team centered around Germans!
