PCM.daily Expansion Pack: Support/FAQ

I started a career with the default DB and Alpecin as a test and for instance the Grand Tours are marked as "wildcard requested" in their calendar there as well. I haven't simmed far enough to see if any of the wild cards are denied, though. I also don't see anything in the original DB tables that would indicate such a position (best PCT team), at least not at the start of a career. Maybe it's only from the second season on that something changes, I'll look into it and maybe we can replicate that.

I simmed a few months and as mentioned, I applied for every WT races and did not get all of them. I got picked for all the one day races, but not for races such as the Giro, Cataluna and Itzulia.

Hello, just did a career with Tirol KTM Team over 2 years.
Overall the DB feels great and it's my favorite by far!
Some things i noticed:

- Paris-Nice, Tirreno, Giro, TDF, Romandie, Itzulia and UAE Tour did not use the 2021 course. Every other WT race did though.

- Tour of Turkey has 6 instead of 8 stages.

- There are Free Agents who are retired/suspended and have (in my opinion) outdated stats or could be removed. (L.Howard, Baugnies, Villalobos, Stetina, Dibben, Keizer, Rosón, Alarcón, Mannaerts, Palini, to name a few) They get contracts by WT Teams in season 2, which results in a lot of talents ending as free agents. (T.Johannessen did not receive a contract for example)

- Vlaanderen and Roubaix had not the best simulation result. 2021 was kinda okay. In 2022 Vlaanderen was won by Kragh Andersen ahead of Hayter and Keukeleire. Roubaix was won by Haller, 2nd Matthews, 3rd Stybar. (maybe not a db issue)

I'll take a closer look once I'm done with our newest update. I fear that this is simply Cyanide not living up to their promises, but we'll see.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm glad you're enjoying the DB!

Interestingly, those WT races are precisely the ones which we included the 2021 stages ourselves. We should be able to fix that.

The Tour of Turkey is not the only race that doesn't have the exactly correct number of stages, unfortunately. This is because they only changed the number of stages last year and we continue to use variants from years past, ergo with 6 stages. It's something that we're looking to fix in a future update, but that wasn't on top of our priority list yet.

Thank you for making us aware of those free agents. We try to stay on top of retirees, but especially when it's someone that has been a free agent, sometimes that gets past us. We'll have a look at the guys you mentioned for our stat update post-Tour. Let us know if there are more riders like this (same for anyone reading this Wink ).

The simulation results are a bit out of our hands. It would take a lot of time and testing to come up with new/improved xml files for that. Davy Depuydt has done this in the past, but according to him, the default game files are better than his this year. And indeed, compared to previous games, they are solid, but that's a low bar to clear. If someone comes up with files that produce better results, we'll gladly include them, and it's possible that I'll have a look at them myself at some point (it's really intriguing), but I wouldn't expect that to happen any time soon, unfortunately.

I installed the DB, but when creating a custom team, almost all jerseys have a purple square instead of the jersey, and in races almost all teams have the same red jersey on.
is there anything to do to fix it?

This sounds like you don't have the files in the correct folders. I assume you have downloaded the database from the forum and not via the Steam workshop?

Please double check if you have copied the files into the correct directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pro Cycling Manager 2021, but this can deviate depending on where you have the games installed). You can test this for instance by going to Pro Cycling Manager 2021 -> 3D -> Cyclists -> Cloth -> Team and see if towards the bottom, there are a few folders starting with x (like x-aeroflot or x-bancobrasil, those are the files for the custom sponsors).

yeah when i get in to Pro Cycling Manager 2021 -> 3D -> Cyclists -> Cloth -> Team, there is no teams beginning with x-
so is the best solution to delete the database and try and install it again
or is there anything else you can do?

Edit: found the solution

Now i just wonder why not all teams show up, when i try to select af custom team?

I need a bit more info: Did you in fact download our files from this website, or through the Steam workshop? What kind of solution did you find?

i downloaded it from the website, i just found out i didn't extracted to the right folder
so everything is okay with that part.
now the only problem is that when i try to create a custom team, og kan only select maybe around 50 teams, when in the database there is a lot more

and when i find the folder, i can see all the teams, so i know they are there

I'd like to respond to this specific part. While I think that you have a point, I see a difference between several retiring cases. Riders retiring out og age is one thing, but these names have different reasons. Usually I do an FA overhaul once in a year to cut out all riders that definitely don't do bike races anymore. In most cases you mentioned though we left these riders in intentionally, and I'll now try to explain why:

Doping cases: For riders like Villalobos, Roson and Alarcon it is a very tricky case. We have to leave them in, cause at least Villalobos and Roson will surely come back after their suspension is finished. We obviously don't know how strong they are. We used to have doping injuries in the game to prevent them from coming back too early, but I'm not sure that is possible anymore in-game.

Riders retired suspectedly due to age: Those are usually cut out immediately.

Riders retired suspectedly due to not receiving a contract: We usually keep those in for a year or two. We got the feeling that this is the mroe realistic approach, as we've seen such names more often than not get picked up late by some team (Vermote and GvK to name some out of my hand for this year).

Riders retired due to focussing on other parts of cycling: From your example we have Dibben and Howard who do track cycling. If they'd want to, they'd 100% receive at least CT contracts. Some of these switch back and forth between track and road, and we want to keep these dynamics in-game. Also with their quality these riders should be able to be picked up in the game imo (especially with more hybrid track/road teams in CT, like BEAT or rad.net rose, and the same with the CX Teams that also ride on the road for CX-cases.. Ususally we erase those after a couple of years, but they can still come back later. F.e. Steve Chainel came back 5 years after retiring and only doing cross and Kermesse to finish 6th on his first 2.2 race in 6 years. That's why these, most tricky cases, tend to stay in longer after retirement.

Amateur-retirees: Then there are also riders that officially do not ride in the UCI circus atm, but potentially could still come back. F.e. your case of Jerome Baugnies does not ride on UCI Tour level atm, but he still races on the Belgian national scene. Such riders would be decreased, but those also tend to come back into the scene with the right contract offer.

You can count on a rider being gradually decreased if he doesn't ride at least on amateur level every year. Usually you can do the maths that a rider gets decreased by 1 in every main stat per year, while back-ups depend on the age (that's how Roson ended up like this after being a 74/75 guy when his suspension started).

I hope you can sympathize with our decisions on when and how to deal with Free Agents when they change paths in their career. Of course, this leads to oversights over time as f.e. you pointed out with Palini, who first retired due to not getting a new contract but then did not come back as others did. To point such out is very important and helps us, so thank you very much for that input. At the same time though we'd like to keep most of the riders you mentioned in the game as active decisions, as we understand them to add value to our rider pool. Let us know though if you have any further questions or challenges to that point of view, we're very happy to discuss this approach.

Hello, first of all thank you for the db. So, I downloaded the the db and followed all the steps to install it, but for some reason, when i try to start a new save, these error pops up. I'm sorry if this is noob stuff, but I really don't know what to do.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe there was also the matter of the bad objective planning which got fixed by cyanide in the recent update. The single player simulation results do look good imo!

Thank you for the detailed answer. These are definitely points that are understandable. As there is a lot of thought put into the decision whether to keep a free agent or not, my point becomes irrelevant then! It also doesn't feel bad seeing retired/suspended riders make a comeback and it adds realism.

Another thing:
Maybe you are already aware of it, but after playing a bit more with the DB i noticed some minor issues with variants.
- The Tour of Pologne Variants of 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017 include the Madonna di Campiglio stage of Giro '15 and another stage to Val di Fassa. This could be due to missing stage-files for the Pologne-Variants.
- The 2015 variant of Tour de la Provence includes three stages (1-3) of GP de Québec.
- The 2013 and 2015 variant of 4 jours de Dunkerque also includes stages (2+6) of GP de Québec.
- The 2013 variant of Tour of Norway consists only of GP de Québec stages.
- The 2012 variant of Boucles de Mayenne as well.
- The 2013 VOO-Tour de Wallonie variant has three GP de Québec stages.
- Also some one-day-races and other 2.1 and 2.2 have GP de Québec variants.
I think all of this is due to existing cdx-files in the Stages directory.

Hey, I just started a career with Alpecin and i got the same issue.
It seems to be even worse:
On Jan8 i got the mail that 4 teams applied for a wild card for TDF (Alpecin, Bardiani, Bingoal Pauwels, Spoort Vlaanderen), of which 4 (yeah lol) would get a wild card.
And one week later, on Jan15, i got an mail that 4 teams got a wild card, which were: B&B Hotels, DELKO, Arkea-Samsic and TotalEnergies.

The same happened for other races, i got rejected for most of the races i applied for, e.g. every race in france except Paris-Roubaix.
There seems to be a bigger bug (i don't know if it's the game or the PCM.daily DB) as the teams who got the wild card don't match with the teams which applied for a wild card. Strange!

And, in addition to this, as someone else mentioned before, some races are not the 2021 ones. My TDF e.g. is starts in Porto Vecchio, which is the 2013 course, if i remember correctly.

To be honest, i don't mind about the course issue as most of my save games won't even go until season 3, I just want to acknowledge the work which is behind such a big update every year Smile

Hey, I wanted to post on this forum to warn about some crashes in some stages in career mode:

First stage of the Jayco Herald Sun
All stages of the Tour of Oman
Omloop Het Niewsblaad (Ghent to Ninove, Belgium)

Sorry for not getting back to all of you so far, lots of IRL stuff going on right now. I'll be able to take a closer look at your issues (as well as hopefully the update I announced last week) later this week. Thanks for your patience!

Groenewegen is Unavailable to select in one off races (havent tested other modes)

Under health it states the following:
Condition: Unavailable (fit to race)
Return: mid December.

How can I fix this so I can select him in one off races? (PCM 2020 BTW, but that topic has died)

Edit: Dumoulin has the same problem. But it gets stranger. Both riders are automatically selected to race, and Im able to take 9 riders into a grand tour.
If I select 8 riders, Both groenewegen and Dumoulin are on the squad, and one of 8 I did select did not make the cut.
Edit 2: Doesn't happen all the time started 2 giro back to back. on both occasions Dumoulin and Groenewegen arent selectable, on one occasion both were present on the team. 3rd time, Only groenewegen is on the team, making me have a team of 9 again. Also happens when simulating the first stage

We added those unavailabilities to mimic Groenewegen's suspension and Dumoulin's voluntary break, but they are supposed to end in early May/early June. We tested that, so it's weird that you have it until December. But by no means should they be able to be selected for a race, that sucks of course. Maybe it's better to leave those "injuries" out alltogether. If you know your way around an editor, you can edit DYN_injury (just remove the two entries) in your savegame or the cdb. And I'll see if I can manage to release one final PCM20 update sometime soon-ish.

Yeah for season it makes sense, but not really for a one off race situation.

Deleting them from DYN_Injury fixed the bug of them still showing up in the race and being able to have 9 riders. They are now also selectable for the roster like any other rider. Cheers.

cunego59
Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about one off races. It never occured to me that the injury would also have implications for that, and I'm not sure if that makes sense or is stupid. But I think that if that's the case, we won't use predefined injuries in the future.
