I think there should be a good mix between realism and MG countries, Switzerland should not get the best riders in the world just because we have 3 Swiss teams, nor should for example Evenepoel be given bad stats just because there are a lot of good Belgian riders already.

In general I feel there are too many upper 70s riders from obscure cycling nations. People should be able to fill their team with a few riders from their home nation, yes, but these should be domestiques, not team leaders.

I also agree with Croatia that adding too few talents would result in a few dominating riders, but especially on the cobbles I don't see much coming up, mostly due to the Covid pandemic cancelling most of the U23 calendar.

However, I kind of disagree that lack of competition at the top is necessarily a game breaker. I think the opposite effect of too many guys at the same level is worse. At that top level you speak of, value can be properly assessed by wages and fees. If Herklotz is that much better than the competition, we can make his wages that much better than the competition, and the market will help. This is part of why inflation is worse at the bottom. The scoring potential of a 78 sprinter can't match his wages because he can be replaced from FA for 50k at all times, even if his OVl and scoring are higher. Ont he contrary, there would be no replacement for Herklotz as a single rider, so that wouldn't be an issue. Herklotz would dominate his races, but maybe buying two lesser leaders with the same money could almost make up for it in the end, so the game isn't completely unbalanced as a whole. It would only make some races a little more predictable.

I agree with this point, but in my opinion the game needs a little to tweak to adequately address this.
During the Bewley era I noticed that despite tearing up the game every year, scoring between 2500 and 3000 points, he was able to keep his wage close to a million. So a very similar wage to riders (with similar OVL) who consistently scored way less.

I think riders like prime Bewley should gradually have their wage creep up towards ~1.4M. Wage is calculated from a combination of OVL and performance and I think we should make the performance part a bit more impactful. But not in a way that has riders who have a single overperforming season shoot up in wage. I guess a weighted average over the last three seasons might work for example.

If we find the sweet spot in terms of performance based wages, having a superstar rider becomes an interesting strategic choice instead of a success guarantee.

Maybe use the World Rankings for this, as it already has a three year rolling weighted average built into the calculations Wink

Yeah, that's actually perfect Grin

That does make the games less fun indeed. But I can't think of any good solution to that issue. So I'll just accept it as part of the game (like it has often been a part of real life cycling) and I'm content as long as we balance it through wage.

Not sure such 3 season balance will or can be implemented. Even if the idea behind is good.

With overpaid FAs this system is not necessarily showing the performance only. I agree that some long term riders, e.g. Bewley prime or now Herklotz/Lecuisinier/Phinney might need a wage boost as they are superior by a lot to some riders that also earn almost the same.

But I think this can also come from a 1 year performance base as well. Riders who had one single overperformance, e.g. Malecki or the GT KoM riders, e.g. Dion Smith, could be handled with such formula as well imo without making them suddenly ask for far too much.

Malecki e.g. d newly added, wouldn't work here with a 3 year balance anyway.

DubbelDekker
Guess that if you implement a % ceiling to how much the wage of a rider (who didn't develop or get trained) can rise in a single year, a one year performance base could work as well.

There would also need to be a floor though, otherwise years of gradual increase could be reset with a single mediocre season.

Leonardo Cobarrubia - https://www.procy...cobarrubia

First Argentinian talent of the 2020 season. He primarily focuses on TT's as can be seen on his pcs profile, but is definitely not the biggest TT talent on the continent. Nothing special, but could be a rider to use the Fabian stat gain on, as both his TT and cobbles are not too bad.

Santiago Montenegro - https://www.procy...montenegro

First Ecuadorian talent as well. He has won the last Vuelta al Ecuador (2.2) at only 23 y/o, finishing second in four stages (hilly stages with some mountain influences) - so except for punching he also knows how to climb quite decently.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you the first Guyanese rider in the DB! I suppose there has never been a Guyanese rider in the game, so next season seems like a great opportunity to introduce a talent from the South American country.

Marcus Keiler - https://www.procy...cus-keiler - https://www.cyclin...rid=165124

Marcus doesn't have a lot of results on pcs, but on cyclingarchives and in online Guyanese newspapers it becomes clear he won more than one race in a sprint in 2020 and 2021. Obviously the competition wasn't of the top level in Guyana, so I think it would be insteresting to have him max at 73spr/72acc with 73 flat, no backups and not amazing physical stats, but still okay. Could be a fun South American part of a sprint lead-out train. As he has also had some top-5s in time trials, I put him at 65, so if anyone would want to they could train him to 70 tt. In this example I used the Track TT stat gain.

He doesn't seem to have participated this year in any race in Guyana. There are results for the RR and TT National championships https://firstcycling.com/race.php?r=2...21&l=1 & https://firstcycling.com/race.php?r=2...21&l=1 and also a stage race in May Independence 3 [urlhttps://firstcycling.com/race.php?r=15546&y=2021&l=1][/url]
There is some more information on Facebook at the Guyana Cycling News. https://www.facebook.com/pages/catego...483408496/
I followed this because I used to play with a team in my career mode with sponsors connected to Anguilla & Guyana. Grin

I spent a lot of time drafting various paragraphs about the riders, about the state of the current DB, about inflation etc etc. Ultimately all things i've said before a dozen times or are just not worth the time to post.

So the above are a range of mostly Caribbean riders. Stat's sort of reflect their IRL versions, although in most cases that is just NC's with out details. So a fair bit of fantasy is here.

Happy to answer questions or discuss more about these riders/the game in general/Caribbean team potientials (if i relegated to CT this was my plan to pivot to a new regional team, but staying PCT this isn't likely to happen) i will answer. Just wasn't worth writing for no reason first.

@TheManxMissile I think 69 at HI and Rs for Kaden Hopkins is a bit too much. He currently races for Team Essax in Spain. But so far in the races he took part and that have a more demanding profile (hills or more difficult climbs) he doesn't seem to be able to finish them. And I am talking about the local races in the Copa Espana Elite/U-23 calendar.
The Anguillan rider is Zambezi (first name) Richardson (surname). I put him and Hasani Hennis in my Anguillan-Guyana career team when I focused on the Caribbean. Smile I am not sure how well I judged their stats, but well... Wink
There are 2 others, Emmanuel Gayral from Antigua and Barbuda and Kobath Baron from Dominica who went to Holdsworth Zappi Team at the beginning of the year, but I don't have much information about them.

DarkWolf
As I said to @Nemolito I have a cyclist from Costa Rica, Julian Madrigal Espinoza, born on 01.06.2001 who for the past couple of seasons rides for Biciletas Rodriguez Extremadura. I am not sure if you guys have him in the DB but I can gather more information on him if you are interested. Smile

roturn
No need to look for 2001 riders and likely not even any 2000 born riders are added to the DB.

Stats will be adjusted later anyway in many cases. But good to have some kind of stats to start with, in especially from unknown riders to most/all.

TheManxMissile
@DarkWolf - MG is not real, and as i said these Stats are not entirely realistic either.
If stat-ing realistically, as i would for a Daily DB release, i don't know if any of them would get much above 70 in any catagory. However because the MG DB is a broken broken mess you need to be at this higher level. Our standard domestique level is about 75 (bar some exceptions with multiple skills, or for more RP reasoning, etc).

But i'm not going to spend time going over MG inflation problems and solutions yet again.

@Roturn (&jph) - I'll re-work a set of suggestions without 2000-01 riders at a later date that will fit closer to what the MG requires for next season (based on upcoming regional declines and sponsor needs)

Just one suggestion from me for now:

Thanakhan Chaiyasombat PCS: https://www.procyclingstats.com/rider...aiyasombat

He seems to be the best Thai talent in a long time and I think that should be reflected in the game. I have a Thai team in the game since 2014 and when comparing with some other nations (like e.g. Malaysia, Greece, Sri Lanka, Latvia, ...) Thailand is still heavily underrepresented in the DB. I think it would be cool to have Chaiyasombat as a strong addition next year.

For some years already he is getting some good results in high mountain races:
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...wi/2020/gc
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...19/stage-5
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...19/stage-1
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...18/stage-4

But also his skills on the flat seem to be decent:
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...20/stage-2
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...20/stage-4

In general he seems to be an quite allround rider, so I would add him with some good base stats already with potential 4:

I am very late to this, and I have only looked through the pre-added riders from jph (I should have been helping on this myself, but ended up being tilted sideways due to work - sorry about that!). So I have probably missed something.

I like the ideas, and many of the suggested stats a lot. I am, however, a little bit uncomfortable with riders maxing at 81/77 MO/HI or 81/76 for that matter. Even if they are not very solid TT'ers, those make for very easy top level GC riders, as 2 seasons of training will see them 81/81.

I would rather see them end up at 80/74 abd nire well-rounded in secondary stats to be honest.

For puncheurs i dislike the strengths of Vansevenant, Pidcock, Bagioli and Romo for the same reasons. They will instantly be outsiders to podium in ardennes and are also extremely potent in one-week long races. All of them are very young and do we really need riders with 75MO 85HI after 2 seasons of training? I think the route to supremacy becomes too short when adding this much quality.

Again I would rather see them end up with 75/79 or Romo at 78/78 to ensure that the riders can move in many directions training wise, but doesn't have a shortcut to becoming the best after just 1-2 seasons of training.

The TT'ers on the other hand could use a little bit of a boost to actually have a shot at doing something. Fair enough that Osborne is weak due to his killer TT, but Hirschbischler, Price-Pejtersen and Johansen (as the most obvious ones) are not THAT good TT'ers, but also horrible domestiques. As low-end TT'ers aren't often scoring much I think we should consider giving them a decent baseline to actually showcase their engine. 75-76FL, 65MO, 68HI or something like that. That would atleast allow them to survive a bumpy or hardly ridden flatish stage.

In terms of sprints I think it wouldn't hurt to have 1-2 sprinters that could max at 79 or so. 77 is currently the highest, and while I do aknowledge that we are aiming to lower the entire sprint category, I could spot a gaping hole here when current young sprinters max at 80-81-82. The current added ones are leadouts at best.

So overall I think the balance for some stats are a bit skewed towards it being OK to be killer MO/HI riders but not cobblers, sprinters or TT'ers. So maybe a little tweak here and there - in particular to avoid young riders like the 4 puncheurs to immidiately be key riders if we want to adjust the top level. We have to remember, that once these guys are ready for their first training the likes of Lecuisinier, Herklotz, Morton etc. are pretty much ready to start decrease.

EDIT:

Alright I see many of my points have been already discussed, so no need to further discuss the topic. I'll add some riders soon Smile

Dimitrios Christakis | 18.09.1999

Christakos is reigning greek U23 champion in both RR and TT, and all results suggest that he is another lower-level GC rider with a decent potential, much similar to the likes of Giannoutsos, Ioannidis, Mavrikakis, Spanopoulos and Kiriakidis.

Back in 2016 he debuted with a decent GC result behind Jaka Primozic and ahead of Ioannis Kiriakidis, both in the DB possibly maxing at around 74-76 in stats like MO, HI and TT (Depending on the path). In 2019 he was levelled around Kastrantas in a Bulgarian stage race. I will suggest his stats to be somewhere in this region.

Alexandros Matsangos | 09.10.1999

Matsangos is a rider without too much information. He is one of 4 reasonable Cypriot riders, and seeing as he has been regularly fighting the likes of Agrotis, Archimandritis and Miltiadis I have decided to opt for similar stats with the versatility of cobbles as a decent secondary stat much like the 3 (With Archimandritis obviously being the stronger cobbler). As he have been riding for quite some time it would be an option to add him as a level 2-3 rider with lover potential to make for a more interesting rider – much like Archimandritis was in his prime.

Already in the DB at a reasonable level, maxing out to be a decent puncheur. I would however ask if he could have a better resistance to make him more worthwhile when he is a complete no-show in timetrials and cobbles. I would suggest +3 Resistance, and keep everything the same.

Richard Huera - https://www.procy...hard-huera

A talentful Ecuadorian, that has gotten some decent result in the Vuelta al Ecuador at the end of last year, and has shown himself in Colombia, Tachira and other races as well. Will never be a world class rider, but could be a decent domestique uphill/fun breakaway rider because of his climbing and punching versatility. Lacks everything else though. (statgain climberv1)

A 1999 Uruguayan that finished ninth in this year's national championship. Not a lot of results, but could be a talent to develop if there surged a regional team (like Argentinian based for example). To not make him totally useless I suggest maxing out in low 70's flat-tt-cobbles with the Fabian stat gain.

Above based on Hilly Training

I feel obliged to suggest an Irish rider as I don't see any in the suggestions and the youngest one in the Db is 23/24. He is born in 2000.

Ben Healy is Irish Champ and has won a Stage in Avenir and Rode de l'Isard. He seems to excel in hills but he is U23 TT Champ too and competitive over week long races
