Christiansen and Stanley were used to chase the break in the early stages. Garin joined the chase near the halfway mark. Garin was one of the those involved in the gradual thinning out of the pack in the final third of the race. Garcia Cerravalos and Abdessabour found themselves on the wrong side of a split with 30 kilomteres to go. Alunderis was dropped in the next major split with 14 kilometers left. Garin continued pacing for his team leader and eventually rode the closing kilometers in a small group to finish a creditable 12th. Alunderis finished 24th. Garcia Cerravalos narrowly missed out on the Top 30, and hence points.

Hillestad joined the break on Stage 1 but could not take out the only KOM sprint, which offered points to only the first rider.
Hillestad lost a lot of time on Stages 2 and 3.
