15.03 | C1 | Goals: Top 5; Top 20 |

Swisslion did not come to this race with a lot of confidence, due to the poor results so far by their #1 leader Beltran. The length of the race and the difficulty of the final climb were not thought to be advantageous for the Colombian. Nevertheless the Swisslion leader seemed to have tackled the earlier climbs well and came on the Apex mountain with good legs. So good in fact that it was he who launched the first attack with still more than 30 km left!
Eduard Alexander Beltran on the attack
With only some of the elite climbers present able to follow, the leaders quickly opened up an uncloseable gap. Merhawi Kudus proved the strongest of the lot, with an attack before the summit. Beltran stayed on in the second group with riders like Tenorio, Eastman, Carthy and Henao Montoya. The 5 never really managed to get close to Kudus who took the victory. But Beltran showed he was the best finisher in that group to easily take 2nd best. The race ended up turning out pretty much as well as it could have, but Beltran's aggressive riding made it so.
Eduard Alexander Beltran sprinting for 2nd place
Race goals:
Top 5 | Success | Eduard Alexander Beltran | 2nd | Top 20 | Failure | Abolfazl Gilanipoor | 34th |
Race score: 9/10

Fantastic result by Beltran. Didnt thought this race would suit him well enough but he proved me wrong. Congrats!

The reduced startlist surely was a big factor here, as he simply isn't performing nearly to the same levels as last year.

Kuurne could be the race where Saber finally breaks the "attacking curse"! I hope he wins the sprint for the third place, behind Summerhill who gets beaten by Baugnies after they leave everyone behind on the last cobbled section

That's really, really a painful season for you so far. Is Beltran really hugely underperforming, or is he just back to normal? Guess it's a bit of both, but still ugly for you. At least Boeckmans pulls off some good sprints, but it looks like it'll be a tough season for you.
And Saber... no words, no explanation.

Painful indeed. Beltran has been nerfed in more ways than one. I knew last year's heights won't be repeated, but I did not expect such a drop.
The rock around which our PCT adventure is built upon is unfortunately eroding into dust

In hindsight we have had a terrible transfer season. Ironically Boeckmans, our cheapest acquisition has proved to be our best.
Quite a simple explanation really. We massively overestimated his abilities, which is a mistake that might cost us for a long time.

Well, Boeckmans at least got close to the win the one time he actually bothered sprinting. But Mottin's underperformance (not the first one this season, iirc) is really at the same time inexplicable and disappointing. There definitely weren't 27 better TTers than him in Sweden...
Wish you better luck for the next races!

Yeah, I also think he should be better than 28th. I guess Mottin is another of our transfer blunders this year
I can only hope luck is a big factor in our underperformances!

Boeckmans is performing decently. Sadly the same can't be said about Saber.
