We have the first ranking update of the 2020 season. Swisslion currently sit in 5th place in the table. The season started brilliantly at the Down Under Classic with some slick teamwork from newcomers Kris Boeckmans and Lahcen Saber. The following two races were more of a dissapointment though.

The paltry amount of points scored in East Java was then continued at Gisborne GP, where our leader Eddy Beltran was dubbed as the favourite, but did not deliver a top result. The East Java performance especially hurt, due to the success there last year and with it being our first failed race goal of the year. Not a terrible start, but much more to build on. The following month will also see the debuts of Hugues Mottin and Yevgeni Nepomnyachsniy, which we are very much looking forward to.

But as we said, we have lots more to work on if we wish to compete for our goal of a top 10 finish and avoid relegation in the process.

Decent start to the season despite two underperformances from Beltran. Think the pairing of Boeckmans and Saber looks promising for you already Smile

Beltran needs to step things up, or else! Pfft

Unfortunetely it's gonna be a long while before we see Kris and Lahcen together again. Hopefully they do the business on their own Smile

In a race that came about as a complete surprise on the team's calendar due to the PT wildcard process, Swisslion decided to bring a rather young and inexperienced team to Denmark, due partly also to the race clash in Portugal. For most of these lads it was and will be one of the few if not only time they participate in a TTT event.

Swisslion failed to achieve the goals they set for themselves as the hillier stages did not suit any of their climbers. Therefore the ambition to grab some minor GC placings turned out to be unfounded. Time-trial specialist Hugues Mottin also came up short of delivering a notable result in either of the two TT stages. Nor did the team involve itself in the KOM standings.

The one stand result came on stage 6 where Abolfazl Gilanipoor joined the breakaway along with Tyron Giogieri. The two worked well together and Gilanipoor proved the stronger man, stronger than any other on the day, to take the stage win. First win of the season for Swisslion.

The famous race of Paris-Nice was the 2nd wildcard apperance for Swisslion this year. Similar to the apperance at Copenhagen-Malmo, it was a developmental squad to gain experience. Because of that the only goal was for the team to get as much television time as possible.

The major success came on the 2nd stage. Matic Groselj entered the break in order to hunt for bonus seconds and as a result of winning two intermediate sprints and finishing a reputable 12th on the stage Matic Groselj was able to wear the young riders jersey on stage 3!

After that Swisslion continued their attacking riding by placing a rider in the breakaway on every road stage. Groselj added another apperance on stage 4, Antonijevic got involved with Penko on stage 5, with Izidor Penko making the breakaway on a total of 4 stages!

30.04Amstel Gold RacePT

The busy month of March is followed by an almost as busy month of April. A total of 34 race days spread across 9 different races await the riders. The month starts out in California, whew we will try to compete for some stage results and minor GC places. On the other side of the world in the Baltic Chain Tour will be where our sprinters and rouleurs will be located. Next we have the clash of two HC stages races in Poland and France. Similar to California we will try to achieve some stage and GC results.

The run of difficult stage races continue in Cyprus, where we will enjoy visiting again after our victory there last year. To finish the month of April we have 4 one day races. GP Wallonie is where we will look to pit ourselves against some top PT oppostion in the PTHC categorised race. After that we will again feature in sprinter's doubleheader of Veenendaal and the Lisbon Classic. We hope for some more luck from those two races this time around. Lastly we finish the month with a free hit wildcard apperance at the Amstel Gold Race.

May

04.05 - 05.05Windhoek ITTC1
07.05Liege - Bastogne - LiegePTM
11.05 - 13.05Scandinavia Open Road Race [Race Goal]PTHC
15.05Malopolski WyscigC1
27.05 - 31.05Tour of NorwayPTHC

After two race packed months in a row, May is a quiter month for us, but does still feature some notable races. After skipping this race last year, we are again in Namibia for the 2 day Windhoek ITT event. After one of the few trips to Africa, we again have the pleasure to participate in the monument of Liege - Bastogne - Liege. Combining it with the two other hilly classics in April, it gives us our own little "Ardenne triple". Next we make another trip to Sweden for our 2nd race goal. A large part of the team will be situated in that part of Europe, with the Malopolski Wyscig and Tour of Norway coming shorty after.

You can expect more installments like this as the season progresses and the race calendar becomes revealed. This is part 2 of 4.

Busy indeed. It's sink or swim time for us!

Kris is the only bright spot to our season so far, but he has only done one race so far. And I don't want to put too much pressure on him Embarassed
