Thought I would share a random win.
So was about 2 years in to a career with INEOS and just picked up WVA. Had the intention to have him in a support role to Egan, and grab a few stages.
Opening TTT win ad my team at the pointy end and after 3 days in I some hoe got in a bunch of non-contenders with WVA and ended up with about a 6min advantage, but not in yellow.
Happened again and now had yellow and 11 min up my sleeve with WVA. From that point I just went fpr wins and blew it out to over 12 min before the mountains.
So from t here I just used the dot and TTd up the mountains with WVA and let Bernal go with the main contenders.
When was all said an done WVA held on to win by 40s. Bernal 3rd with Roglic 2nd.
Never got close again as I thought I might replicate this. Not even close. What I did realise was one more mountain stage and I would have lost.
Just thought I would share this. And to win the race with a TTer than can climb a little like Wiggns would be hard.
FYI WVA mountain was 73 at the time. |

Great win though. Would have been amazing racing to see in real life, a little bit of the Voeckler '11 I guess Maybe turn the difficulty up next time
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Thanks, It was literally limiting losses on every mountain stage. Was sweating bullets on the last stage and thought I was going to end up with Egan in 2nd and WVA anywhere after that.
Reminded me very much of the Voekler ride. I would have loved to see him win if Cadel could not (I am an Aussie) |

At this point, who wants to bet money that WVA cannot win a GT?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

It would have to be a route that suited him (Cobble/TTs and lots of classics style stages), everything would need to go right and a bit of time up his sleeve from an early breakaway.
Not impossible but highly unlikely in real life. |

Come on, he was an hour and 20 minutes behind the winner in the Tour. He's very good, but he's not God! |

Totally agree. I dont think there a many editions that Wiggo could win either.I like how the format evolves so there is not one type of rider that can win. I would never thought Julian Alaphillipe would get as close as he did either. |

Just got a TDF 4th with Rohan Dennis down 2.34 on Tom D, once again using the minimise losses on the big mountains and kill it in the tt, with a cheeky breakaway on a lumpy stage early in the race formula.
What it did prove is that you can win with a lesser climber if you are really concisent, and try to gain on the TT. Tom d, Primoz and Podjcar were too strong in the TT to make much of a difference, and I kept loosing 30 sec to a min on each mountain stage to these guys (and others).
But with a lucky race or not against three tt/climber I might have got a podium. |
