2020 RENEWALS AND AVAILABILITY LIST
After a pretty uneventful 2019, Team Festina - OAKA have opened for some changes. This means that most of the team - except for team leader Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier and most of the greek core will be available for sale/trade. The team seems quite clarified that this may mean goodbye to some of the teams long term French development focus.
The team remains french, but it seems likely that the core of domestiques will surely be greek in the future. The team sponsors seems somewhat content with the fact, that results could be severely damaged by the team policy. Even to a degree where relegation could be a theme.
| Name | Wage | Availability? | | Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier | 750.000€ | No | | Bryan Coquard | 600.000€ | Maybe | | Clement Koretzky | 350.000€ | Maybe | | Maxime Daniel | 220.000€ | Yes | | Adrien Petit | 200.000€ | Yes | | Francesco Bongiorno | 150.000€ | Yes | | Pascal Ackermann | 110.000€ | Maybe | | Aidan van Niekerk | 110.000€ | No | | Georgios Karatzios | 85.000€ | Maybe | | Andreas Stauff | 85.000€ | Maybe | | Sascha Weber | 110.000€ | Yes | | Nikolaos Ioannidis | 70.000€ | No | | Panagiotis Vlatos | 115.000€ | No | | Charalampas Kastrantas | 60.000€ | No | | Alexis Vuillermoz | 50.000€ | Yes | | Michail Kortsidakis | 50.000€ | No | | Michail Mavrikakis | 50.000€ | Maybe | | Stylianos Farantakis | 60.000€ | No | | Miltiadis Giannoutsos | 50.000€ | No | | Ioannidis Kiriakidis | 50.000€ | No | | Aimiliano Vila | 50.000€ | Maybe |
2019 -> 2020 TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Time to take a look at the development of the riders at Festina. And much like always, there have been no shortage of developments.
*The desgin is courtesy of cio.
| Pascal Ackermann | 4.100 | 26yo | Punchy Sprinter | €110.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 71 | 64 | 75 | 61 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 61 | 76 | 78 | 65 | 63 | 68 | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | 72 | 65 | 77 | 61 | 75 | 71 | 80 | 61 | 77 | 80 | 66 | 63 | 68 |
A fully maxed Pascal Ackermann sees the day. With his 77 HI/SPR combination he will be a deadly man to bring to the finish line, and with a strong skillset for the longer races also he could be bagging in quite a season if all plays out right.
| Aidan van Niekerk | 4.100 | 23yo | Puncheur | €110.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 69 | 71 | 75 | 65 | 72 | 74 | 75 | 66 | 63 | 72 | 80 | 71 | 65 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | 69 | 73 | 77 | 65 | 72 | 75 | 76 | 66 | 63 | 74 | 82 | 71 | 65 |
Aidan van Niekerk maxes out to be a very competent puncheur. What he lacks in speed he easily covers in the aggressive ridings, which also gave him two Grand Tour stagewins last season, including the Champs-Elysées stage of the Tour de France. This upcoming season we wish to see him also take some responsibility in the classics and hopefully we will see him develop all around.
| Georgios Karatzios | 4.100 | 30yo | Cobbler | €85.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 76 | 58 | 71 | 59 | 74 | 70 | 67 | 75 | 62 | 65 | 70 | 61 | 59 | ↓↓↓ | | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | 77 | 58 | 71 | 59 | 75 | 71 | 67 | 77 | 63 | 65 | 70 | 61 | 59 |
For the first time ever we see a competent Greek cobbler entering the World Tour-scene. Last season Karatzios worked mainly as a domestique, but this season we have hopes for him to deliver a few more results of his own. Besides being a strong cobbler he is also a decent puncheur and a very strong rolleur to control the longer flat stages.
| Nikolaos Ioannidis | 4.100 | 27yo | Stage Racer | €70.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 67 | 73 | 72 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 71 | 57 | 58 | 70 | 72 | 67 | 74 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | | | | ↓↓↓ | 67 | 75 | 73 | 75 | 76 | 74 | 73 | 57 | 58 | 70 | 72 | 67 | 76 |
Ioannidis maxes out as the strongest ever Greek stageracer, and eventhough he wasn't quite up there last season, he still managed to put in a very decent show here and there. Despite coming to a development-hault at this point it is very unlikely that this will be his "final form".
| Michail Kortsidakis | 4.52 | 26yo | Roulleur | €50.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 74 | 63 | 68 | 54 | 72 | 72 | 72 | 70 | 65 | 72 | 76 | 70 | 73 | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | 76 | 63 | 69 | 54 | 74 | 74 | 73 | 72 | 67 | 72 | 76 | 70 | 73 |
Kortsidakis joins the team of powerhouses adding to Karatzios' high flat engine. Kortsidakis is slightly more versatile then Karatzios, albeit lacking the cobbled qualities. However there is yet more to come and we fully excpect Kortsidakis to be a valuable member of the team from this season and forward.
| Michail Mavrikakis | 4.22 | 26yo | Climber | €50.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 69 | 73 | 69 | 67 | 71 | 70 | 65 | 54 | 61 | 66 | 62 | 64 | 67 | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | 70 | 75 | 71 | 69 | 73 | 72 | 67 | 54 | 61 | 67 | 63 | 64 | 69 |
Another greek climber jumps to a level that is worthy of a domestique role at WT level. Mavrikakis might not be the biggest talent in Greek cycling, but we are yet to see him fully developped and he's already among the best Greek climbers out there. We expect him to take a jump further into his own "league".
| Stylianos Farantakis | 3.64 | 25yo | Sprinter | €50.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 68 | 59 | 64 | 71 | 72 | 66 | 69 | 66 | 73 | 74 | 61 | 62 | 73 | ↓↓↓ | | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | 70 | 59 | 64 | 71 | 73 | 68 | 74 | 66 | 75 | 76 | 61 | 62 | 75 |
After enjoying a decent good season in the PCT Farantakis is back to gather experience. The talented sprinter is trying his utmost to follow in the footsteps of the legend - Georgos Tzortzakis. For now we will mainly see him as a leadoutrider and one who works in the front, but next season he is likely to be the last man leading out. Also look out for him in the prologues as this young gentleman is quite handy against the clock! And there's plenty more to come from him!
| Miltiadis Giannoutsos | 3.20 | 23yo | Climber | €50.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 65 | 71 | 68 | 66 | 70 | 72 | 68 | 57 | 64 | 65 | 74 | 66 | 71 | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | 66 | 73 | 69 | 68 | 72 | 74 | 70 | 57 | 64 | 66 | 74 | 66 | 73 |
This young lad is another Greek climber. And while he may not seem too interesting at the moment be very aware - that this guy is the next big thing coming from Greek cycling. A hidden gem, with an ability for climbing that is next to non in this region. And he's just 23 years old!
| Ioannidis Kiriakidis | 3.17 | 23yo | Stage Racer | €50.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 67 | 68 | 69 | 70 | 68 | 69 | 68 | 62 | 63 | 70 | 69 | 73 | 70 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | | | | ↓↓↓ | 67 | 70 | 70 | 72 | 69 | 70 | 70 | 62 | 63 | 70 | 69 | 73 | 72 |
Kiriakidis is another stageracer from Greece. He will amount to max out in quite some resemblance to Nikolaos Ioannidis, although with slightly less quality on the climbs and in longer stages. He will however have a little bit more quality in his timetrial abilities and be more wellrounded. A very nice looking talent, that could well be looking for a season at PCT level though.
| Aimiliano Vila | 2.00 | 23yo | Puncheur | €50.000 |
Fl | Mo | Hi | TT | St | Rs | Rc | Co | Sp | Ac | Fi | Dh | Pr | 69 | 65 | 69 | 63 | 68 | 69 | 70 | 54 | 66 | 67 | 69 | 68 | 63 | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | ↓↓↓ | ↓↓↓ | | | 69 | 66 | 70 | 63 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 54 | 66 | 68 | 70 | 68 | 63 |
Vila is the rider that's currently the furthest away from becoming a lead rider - but his talent is definately present. We are probably looking at the best puncheurtalent from all of Greece in all times - even more so than Charalampas Kastrantas! That is definately something. That said, Vila is looking for a season at lower level to really benefit the best.

Quite a lot of Yes's and Maybe's on that list

Tbf, my goals don't exactly have a puncheur in mind. So would much rather take myself on board once I can appoint a lot of $$$ to training

That was kinda my idea too - Obviously I won't make him completely unavailable for you in the future, but I'll atleast help create an even better base for him/you

Bongiorno could be a rider to look at for us in the right swap deal, could use some support for Spilak I guess...

Hmm, I wonder if I should reconsider the availability of Spanopoulos if your focus on Greek riders will be that pronounced...a lot of my old riders and others that I've chased for a while that could be put in a swap deal if you're interested and the fee is right.

I don't need support, I need a leader Let's see what Francesco prefers - if he does indeed become an option for us

I'm definately open for some sort of deal with greek riders. I couldn't quite fit Spanopoulos last season otherwise I would have signed him early like most of my other greeks, but he isn't less interesting now he's progressed a bit...
It is too heavy to have all of those level 1-2 riders in the team

2019 -> 2020 TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Time to take a look at the development of the riders at Festina. And much like always, there have been no shortage of developments.

I'm glad you liked the concept!
Seeing it in this condensed form, it's rather apparent why you feel like this is a good opportunity to further increase the focus on the Greek side of your organization, with plenty enough riders already to form a strong core for many years.
Getting a very similar vibe to what I tried to achieve last season, which worked out rather well I think. Good luck achieving the same or even more!

Your setup was pretty easy on the eyes really - Only thing changed was the color of the name - Thought blue was more suiting to my team Usually I write up a fairly long post for each rider. This made more of a overview of things.
Yeah I'm pretty happy with the upcoming core. There's a gap after Karatzios obviously, but having decent puncheurs, flat specialists, sprinters, timetriallists and GC riders at hand definately makes it easier to "just" purchase the top leaders.
The plan is also to see if I can build on some of those Greek riders to actually lead the team on multiple occassions. A riders like Giannoutsos doesn't need much training after maxing to be able to fight for a low-end GT top 10, while riders like Kiriakidis and Ioannidis might get some good results in TT'ish GC results if I make them 78-80TT.
Plenty of options atleast, which is what I like.
So the future seems OK with Lecuisinier as main leader and van Niekerk as secondary leader and then a lot of money in greek development
