The Killer Wasps
valverde321
Been a pretty good race so far. The TTT was a good win, and De Plus has been in great position to challenge for the win by the looks of it. Im guessing he's hit his fitness peak. Never thought I'd see Lawless with such high stats though.

alexkr00
Except Kruijswijk, everyone in team has either just peaked or is about to.

Some stats progress have been quite crazy indeed. But I like it. It kind of has a MG vibe to it.

It looks like Ackermann was the catalyst for the Decenunick trains as since he has left the race, Jumbo have got no opposition from the boys in blue in terms of sprint trains

i.imgur.com/fxeprhb.jpg

Groenewegen opted for a late move today, but as we entered the final kilometre, a lot of sprinters were flying past him and Teunissen, with Demare on the left side of the road and Matthews on the right

i.imgur.com/jKV6OuH.jpg

Groenewegen's strategy was only good enough for a podium today and also to finish in front of Demare who lost quite a few places and crucial points in the final metres. Matthews didn't slow down at all though and he claimed today's victory

Not exactly a classic terrain for sprinters today and a group of 3 riders (Vanmarcke, Gougeard and Ganna) did manage to get the better of the pack today, with Gougeard bringing France their third stage win of this Tour.

i.imgur.com/S2ezHDx.jpg

After the intermediate sprint, Groenewegen managed to match Demare's tally, but the Frenchman took his stroke back at the end of the stage as he beat the Jumbo rider to take fourth and keep the green jersey

With only 3 riders in the breakaway today, the intermediate sprint suddenly became very interesting, but from the first riders in the classification, only Groenewegen seemed to be interested as he took fourth behind the breakaway to take the green jersey from Demare at the end of the stage

i.imgur.com/oZbDcW5.jpg

Unlucky stage 13 for some riders. A big crash in the pack on the first 2nd category climb of the day saw stage winner, Alejandro Valverde and fourth in the GC, Dan Martin being forced to abandon the race.

i.imgur.com/Sevcm8N.jpg

Just 3 riders in a breakaway group was definitely not enough to keep away from the pack in a stage like this and everything came down to a sprint between the GC riders. Kelderman did a perfect job of leading Powless and De Plus into the final kilometre

i.imgur.com/u3t52p3.jpg

It was a very close sprint between Lopez and Powless for the stage win, but the white jersey wearer will get his first Grand Tour victory. What a Tour has been so far for the young American. De Plus took advantage of his slipstream to take third today and get back the yellow jersey from Soler

Yeah, it's looking the best Grand Tour of the story so far.

The main goals are obviously yellow for De Plus and the teams classification as I'm missing the Steam achievement for both. And with Ineos having such a bad lineup here, this looks like my best chance to do the teams achievement by far.

It's quite difficult to say if Demare wants the green jersey as he did not get involved at the intermediate sprint today despite the breakaway not being formed yet. Still for the first time since the first stages, his team-mates are back at the front of the pack with less than 10km to go

i.imgur.com/DnjQ8rD.jpg

With Ackermann gone, Demare was missing his lead-out and ended up following other trains with Teunissen being the fastest launcher today but he left Groenewegen out in the wind too early

i.imgur.com/K6sCLYG.jpg

Two Frenchman would battle out for the stage win, Demare and Laporte, with last year's green jersey winner claiming the victory, while Groenewegen lost the last place on the podium to Peter Sagan

Ag2r chased hard after the breakaway today and their efforts were repaid by Geoghegan Hart as he made the first move on the final climb. He would soon be joined by De Plus, Froome, Soler and Mollema

i.imgur.com/1hitWsA.jpg

The catalyst in the chase of Tao's move was Froome and soon after the regroup he would put in a strong attack which would saw him put some distance between himself and the others. De Plus tried bridging the gap but the Lotto rider was just too strong

i.imgur.com/QxIWfpo.jpg

And it's a second stage win for Chris Froome! The Brit is ageing but he definitely is not showing it. During the team time - trial we said it might be the last time we will see him in yellow, but that could change now as he is only 25 seconds behind De Plus after today's events

Geniez was in the breakaway and managed to add some more KoM points to his tally, but he also found out who his main rivals are going to be: Valls, Thomas and Kwiatkowski.

Last year Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas was first across the summit of the last climb of the day, but he was quickly followed by a rather large group, which would catch up to him on the downhill

i.imgur.com/SDWggsN.jpg

Fabio Aru took the other escapees by surprise as we were approaching the finish line and attacked while the others were busy keeping tags on each other. He got away and took the stage win. UAE's bet for the GC this year had to withdraw from the race so it's good to see Aru getting some redemption for his team

Geniez had no problem keeping up with last year's Tour de France winner on the climbs as the Frenchman has now the polka dots jersey secured with the condition that he finishes the race

i.imgur.com/GId0WPq.jpg

Tao Geoghegan Hart attacked on the penultimate climb and looked like he could put in a strong performance, but when this happened Kruijswijk dropped back from the breakaway, which wasn't too far ahead, to help De Plus. Halfway through the last climb, Tao's move was over as well as the morning breakaway

i.imgur.com/051GV58.jpg

With Froome struggling at the back of the group, De Plus decided that catching Tao wasn't enough so he had Kruijswijk to keep pushing before taking matters into his own hands. He was first at the summit, with Bardet being the only able to keep him in eyesight

i.imgur.com/ohyq8oW.jpg

Bardet caught up to De Plus on the downhill and beat the yellow jersey in the sprint for the stage win, but the chasers 45 seconds down, De Plus now has a hand on the Tour de France trophy

A forty kilometres time - trial which is set to show us who will have to attack in the last mountain stage and who will be on the defence.

It has been a good Tour de France so far for Kelderman and today he gets back into the top 15 after a brilliant ride. He'll be joined there by team - mate, Steven Kruijswijk, who also won plenty of time in front of the weaker time - trial riders

i.imgur.com/motf78L.jpg

It's been a horrendous title defence for Thomas, who has to rely on breakaways to even get back into the top 10, while failing to achieve the new goals he has set for himself like a stage win or the polka dots jersey. Today he was 25 seconds slower than Kelderman

i.imgur.com/xMu1DaU.jpg

It's been a fantastic Tour for Powless so far who was quite lucky to not have to work for De Plus too much. Today he lost a place in the GC, but now has an advantage of over 8 minutes in front of the rider that follows him in the white jersey rankings - Tadej Pogacar

i.imgur.com/cEkGvNS.jpg

Soler was definitely dreaming big after the first mountain stages and some days in the yellow jersey, but it looks like he will have to settle for just a podium this year. He was the first rider to beat Kelderman's time with 3 seconds

i.imgur.com/bX7XI1Z.jpg

Froome looked weak yesterday but today he strikes back with a fantastic ride that could guarantee him the second place in the GC at the very least. He was 34 seconds faster than Soler, the closest rider behind him in the GC

i.imgur.com/qC5vzxP.jpg

It would not be a second time - trial win for Froome though as De Plus stormed through to repeat last year's Vuelta time - trial feat and take the stage win. But this time, he'd be first in the GC at the end of the day and not second. He adds another 7 seconds to the gap between him and Froome

Im thinking De Plus is going to win the Tour... Smile Its looking good anyway. That TT really shows he's the strongest atm.

Looking great so far. I really like the stats and development of De Plus, he is not too strong but the general package is pretty nice to play with.
