What can be done about the young riders problem?
andrew7taylor
Does anybody know how to fine-tune the new generations of riders that the game produces at the end of each season?

How do I make it so riders with 6, 7 and even 8 potential don't swarm the game like currently?

In my opinion 6 potential is the level of great, but not all-time great riders. Guys who are outside favourites for Monuments and Grand Tours but need everything come together to win one. Someone like Pinot, Vanmarcke, Teuns, etc.

7 potential is the level of all-time greats IMHO who are clearly a level above of 6s. Froome, Nibali, Sagan, Valverde, etc. People like this are born only 1 a year at most, even if you count Bernal, Pogacar and Evenepoel.

Yet every year the game generates 5+ new riders with 7 potential that are totally unrealistic, like climbers with 80+ TT, acceleration, hills and stamina.

How do it make it so that the rosters remain realistic and stable over time?

I have wondered about that myself but never dug into it. I believe it's determined by the YoungRiderCarac xmls. Kentaurus used to publish his variations. His last one was for PCM14, it might not work anymore with PCM 19 but he included the original xmls and you can compare them, see what he changed. And see if the PCM 19 xmls have changed, I guess the format is still the same (I only have PCM 17).

Ah, thanks for the help, I think I found it. This year it's in PCM 2019 \ Xml \ RiderCarac

This year the 7 different types of riders have their separate files. You can edit their starting attributes and their max attributes through probabilites.

Though I can't find the one that creates the potentials for the riders themselves, that's a start!

Have you made any progress with young riders potential?

I haven't found what creates the potentials, but tried to make the potentials more realistic. A level 6 puncher looks less like Merckx and more like Teuns or Wellens Smile

I use my own modified XML files for PCM 2018 (less high-skill riders), you could give a try on PCM 2019.
