Bad news for Jumbo as Laurens De Plus, 3rd in the overall classification, did not start today's stage due to a sever sinusitis. He started feeling sick a couple of days ago and his wealth worsened to the point where he was unable to continue racing. A big blow for him as well as Roglic, who seems himself left without his main liutenant.
As opposed to the previous days, today both UAE and Quick Step set up their own trains instead of just following the Jumbo one. Not only did they put their sprinters in better positions, but as Consonni was fading off from the front, after he had finished his work, he managed to block Roosen and Van Poppel and take them out of the sprint
It was once again Gaviria versus Holdeg for the stage win, with Gaviria claiming his third stage win and the most clear so far. A Giro to remember for the Colombian

Some changes in Jumbo's train today as it's once again the only train at the front of the pack as we are about to reach the finish line. It's Roglic who is the last man standing before Roosen does the launch for Van Poppel.
Van Poppel did manage a better sprint than in the previous stages, but there is no stopping Fernando Gaviria at the moment. Fourth stage win in a row for the Colombian and we finally someone other than Dumoulin receiving the purple jersey as the UAE rider is the new leader of the classification

After four days for the sprinters, we go back to more challenging stages that could shake things off in the GC.
Unlucky stage 13 strikes as there was a major crash in the pack on the downhill from the category 1 climb. A few riders were not able to get back on their bikes. Among them, Pinot, Viviani and Kittel
With a stage win already in his bag, Kudus seems to have seriously turn his attention towards the blue jersey as he managed to add 21 more points to his tally today.
Despite being very large, the breakaway did not make it to the finish line today. On the last climb of the day, Carapaz launched a very strong attack from the favorites group and he managed to keep his lead with some amazing descending skills to take the stage win
The biggest story in the general classification today was that Sam Oomen had an off day and lost about 2 and a half minutes today which saw him losing his fourth place in the rankings

Plenty of climbs on today's route so Kudus was bound to be present in the breakaway. But so were other climbers, who were undeniable stronger than him. The Astana rider managed to add 24 more points to his tally, but it was nothing to Masnada's 92 and Soler's 93 points. Masnada would move into the blue jersey at the end of the day, ending the Eritrean's reign
While 3 of the last survivors of the breakaway were fighting for the stage win, behind them, in the favorites group, Roglic attacked as the summit was approaching. He managed to get a gap and continue riding on the downhill to maximum advantage of 40 seconds over his rivals, but with the last climb being quite far from the finish line, once the flat was reached it was game over for the Slovenian.
At the front of the race, Soler attacked Masnada and Reichenbach at the top of the climb and unlike Roglic he managed to keep his advantage to claim Mitchelton's first stage win of the race. The Spaniard can happily go back to work for Quintana and Nibali, unless this victory has awakened some personal ambitions in him. His GC is over (over 21 minutes behind Dumoulin), but the blue jersey could very well be in his reach

First day for Masnada in the blue jersey and he did no disappoint with another breakaway presence and another 93 points added to his total. By the end of the day he would have more than 100 points in front of second place, Kudus. Surely the fight seems to be over already.
On the first category 1 climb of the day, Masnada attacked for the points and got away from the other escapees. He was joined by 4 more riders. 2 from Ineos (Sosa and Elissonde) and 2 from Bora (Schachmann and Henao). Sosa would attack at the foot of the last climb to get away from the others and never be caught again as he claimed his second stage win of the race
More than 8 minutes behind Sosa, we had a fight for the GC, where Lopez and Yates had attacked Dumoulin and Roglic, but ended up empty handed in the end as the first two riders in the GC managed to get back to them on the downhill.
One jersey wearer would change today though and that will be the one of the white jersey. While Oomen was strong enough to hang on to Dumoulin's group, Martinez was not and ended up losing over one minute and the lead in the youth classification.

Today was a day for the breakaway and it was decided by a sprint between the strongest 11 riders of a rather large breakaway group. Roosen was on paper the fastest sprinter in the group and he did not disappoint as he was first across the finish line to bring Jumbo their second stage win of the race.

A 33 kilometers mountain time - trial on today's menu in Italy. Some interesting gaps could be created between the main contenders in the general classification today.
Lopez might have lost his hopes for the pink jersey in the previous time - trial, but today, just like the Empire, he is set to strike back. He wasn't slow at the intermediate check point, but he wasn't one of the fastest either. Still, at the top of the climb he had the best time and then went on to set the best one at the finish as well.
Roglic was ahead of Lopez at the intermediate check point, but his climbing skills are no match to Lopez' natural ones as he stopped the clock at the finish line 1 minute and 3 seconds slower than the Lotto rider
Dumoulin was ahead of both Roglic and Lopez at the intermediate check point but he faded on the climb and ended up losing time to both of them at the finish line. 12 seconds to Roglic and 1 minute and 15 seconds to Lopez. First sign of weakness for Dumoulin in this race. He's still the main favorite, but today showed that he is not unbreakable

Today's stage profile was quite inviting for a breakaway and Timo Roosen was set to take on a new stage opportunity. But the pack kept the escapees on a very short leash and eventually caught them. Perhaps this was due to the fact that Masnada, now 15th in the overall rankings, was part of the breakaway.
The Austrian Champion, Patrick Konrad attacked on the last hill of the day and got away from what was left form the pack to claim the stage win. Behind him, Primoz Roglic finished second in the sprint of the pink jersey group and is now the new purple jersey wearer.

Not sure how many stages are left to take back time on, but I have to say, it looks like Dumoulin is losing hold of his lead. Roglic has a chance imo, so best of luck in the final stages.

| | | | | | | T. Dumoulin | | P. Roglic | | F. Masnada | | S. Oomen |
We are into the last two mountain stages of this year's Giro d'Italia, where everything will be decided. Dumoulin has about one minute advantage over Roglic in the general classification. Lopez isn't far behind under, at less than 3 minutes and he is the best climber of them so it's still anybody's game.
Lopez didn't wait for long and attacked soon after the last climb of the day was reached. He was joined by quite an impressive group with Quintana, Carapaz, S. Yates, Martinez, Poels, Oomen and Thomas
The pink jersey did not seem too bother about this attack and chose to ride at his own pace. Roglic, Nibali, Buchmann and Ciccone were with him. It was a good decision by Dumoulin as eventually the two groups united
The two groups united for a while only to be torn apart once again by an attack from Lopez. The Colombian attacked to catch and overtake the last breakaway survivor, Mühlberger and take the stage win
Lopez won almost one minute on the road to Dumoulin and Roglic due to that attack and now the first 3 riders in the GC are separated only by 1 minute and 35 seconds. Roglic out sprinted Dumoulin for the third place in the stage and looks in a very good position to actually reach Rome in the purple jersey. Sam Oomen lost 40 seconds to Martinez and the white jersey with it as well

Thanks. Only one stage left now, but it's not Roglic who is riding the comeback train

The last climb wasn't steep enough to create any big gaps and this was reflect first in the breakaway group where we had a sprint for the stage win, won by Sebastian Henao. Masnada finished third and will add to his blue jersey a top 10 overall finish as well.
Lopez will definitely be disappointed with the outcome of the climb as the steepness of the climb did not allow for any big moves and the Colombian failed to distance Dumoulin. Not the same could be said about Roglic, who didn't enjoy a good day and could not keep up with the other two
Even though he could not keep up with the duo, Roglic did enough to keep his second place by only 5 seconds! To add to that, he will most likely end up with the purple jersey as he enters tomorrow's stage with an advantage of 12 points over Dumoulin, while the closest sprinters, Gaviria and Van Poppel, are too far away to count

One of the heroes of the first half of the race, Merhawi Kudus crashed out today and was not able to finish the stage. It's quite a shame for him not to finish what has arguably been the best Grand Tour of his career.
Jumbo and UAE were the strongest trains today. While Jumbo are looking to give Van Poppel a second stage win and secure Roglic's purple jersey, UAE are hoping to get Gaviria his fifth win(!) of the race
Van Poppel trusted Roosen's lead - out too much and hoped a late launch would play in his favor. He was wrong though and this gave Gaviria yet another stage win. It's quite strange to see someone who won five stages not getting the points jersey, which actually goes to someone who failed to win even a stage

It was a race as good as they come from Groenewegen as the Dutch rider won all 3 mass sprints and the points classification to go with it as well.
Groenewegen celebrating his first win
It was not a race for sprinters in terms of GC though. While in the second stage, we saw a rather big group coming together at the finish line, in the third stage the first group across the line only contained four riders.
After the third stage we had a very interesting situation in the GC, with the first 3 riders, Van Garderen, Rui Costa and Van Aert all with the same time. Even though he tried, Van Aert failed to get on the podium in the last stages to gain bonus seconds. The higher places did give him the edge against Van Garderen though and thus he defend the title won last year.

Looked like you might make a comeback in the Giro. Obviously Lopez looked menacing too, but atleast you held on for 2nd place, and took the Points jersey in the process. I think thats a good result for you.
Nice win in Norway as well.

Norway was quite lucky as I have no idea how to game deals with riders being on the same time.

The race started pretty well for Jumbo with Van Emden taking an unlikely victory in front of Dumoulin in the prologue. It wouldn't continue as well though as last year's winner, Steven Kruijswijk was taken out of the GC battle by a late crash in the second stage.
As a result, George Bennett, who finished in the leading group in the second stage was promoted as team leader. His dreams of an overall victory would be shattered pretty soon as well, after losing about 4 and a half minutes to Tom Dumoulin in the long time - trial.
Dumoulin thought he could settle the GC as he did in Il Giro: through time-trials
Dumoulin carried out his time - trialing form from the Giro, but he did not carry on his climbing form as this was obvious in the first mountain stage, which saw Wout Poels move into the leader's jersey and George Bennett back in the top 10.
Things were quite drastically changing from one day to the other in Dauphine, with another rider rising in the last two days. It was Giro's runner up, Miguel Angel Lopez. The Colombian won the last mountain stage to be just 10 seconds behind Poels with one stage to go. And he was once again on the attack in the last stage and he succeeded in getting a gap big enough on the last hill of the race to give him the overall victory.
Lopez gets a gap and wins the final stage and the overall classification

Due to an illness, Danny Van Poppel would not be able to defend the title won last year. This resulted in some confusion in the Jumbo camp, with some very bad results in the prologue, continued with Groenewegen losing out to Sean De Bie in the second stage.
Things started looking in terms of the overall win in the last stage when the team placed 3 riders in a group of 6 that got away from the pack in the closing kilometers. They messed up the sprint though as they were trying to set up Teunissen (the highest in the GC at the start of the stage) and lost out to Alexander Krieger.
