Worse than that is the fact that you can't clic and see every group during the race if there are several of them ahead your most ahead rider. Like there are say 6 E groups but all of your riders are in the peloton; you can't see who are in the first few groups, because you can't scroll to the right. Or is there any hotkey that allows you to do so? I checked them and didn't find it.
There's also that in the bottom right corner you can see how long is left for the very first group, but not for the others; so you have to take a guess, which can be tricky and difficult when to take the gel, for example.
There are many inconveniences in terms of qol in this game tbh, and many of them have been there for years and years. Nowadays I only play Be a Pro, and you can't scroll within the Archives tab to see the previous Star of the Year winners, for example. And the Records tab (or was Exploits?) is been bugged for centuries, and doesn't show the correct numbers. In my current game it shows 9 La Vuelta victories for my character, when he only won 5 times. Etc.

TBH this didn't come to my mind even though I did in past years. Still a rather clunky, slow and annoying way to do it if you ask me.
Edit: like I said, in past years you could scroll over riders using the mouse wheel, so theoretically you could see every group by the annoying way of scrolling riders one by one. But I just checked and that doesn't work anymore, not in the in-race information/profile tab nor in the race itself. Not for me anyway.

Going by PCM 17, (annoyingly) not when you play as a Pro Cyclist, but all's normal in career mode. Use page up/down to switch between groups. (Check the keyboard shortcuts tab on the in-race information page.)
