A new day and overnight leader Goss and his team would be very happy with their first stage exploits. It is quite certain that the same rider will not keep the jersey after this stage, so it's the race lead, and win, is up for grabs again! The list of candidates is a who's who of top climbers from the PT and the PCT. Whatever happens, one thing is certain in a field like this; there will probably more contenders unhappy than those that go away happy from this race. Who will rise to the challenge and claim the win? Let's find that out...

A clean early break forms as the pack looks to conserve energy for the climbs at the end of the stage.
Warbasse
D. Quintana
Petrovski
Arreruya
Reichenbach
Ssabagwanya
Schonberger
Gradek
Scotson
...are the riders in the break.
Gradek is dropped halfway up the first rated climb itself and is swept up by the pack.
Ssabagwanya wins the KOM sprint ahead of Petrovski and Arreruya.
Reichenbach, Schonberger and Scotson were dropped with 25 kilometers to go. They are picked up by the pack.
The breakaway is caught with 21 kilometers remaining by the 182 rider peloton.
Gazelle come to the front at the start of the Category 1 climb. Madrazo must be feeling good today.
11 km to go and 4 km from the summit, the peloton is still 155 riders strong and there have been no attacks yet.
Goss is now getting distanced a kilometer later. His reign at the top of the GC is coming to an end.
7.5 kilometers left. 1 kilometer from the summit of the Cat. 1 climb. The peloton is down to 68 riders. Kunshin is at the front for Martin. Tenorio among those in the first few positions.
Kunshin wins the second KOM sprint. He is followed across the line by Kedebe, Tenorio, Beltran, Martin, Alarcon and Formolo, as the points scorers. Nobody really went for it though.
We're at the start of the climb to finish. There has been no action on the downhill and 38 riders approach the last 1500 meters together. Alarcon is at the front of the group.
Formolo leading out Madrazo as we enter the final kilometer. Alarcon and Kudus are right behind the Gazelle duo. Brambilla propping up Dombrowski on the left. Beltran is next to them. Martin is on the right. Tenorio in black between the Repsol duo and Martin.
Beltran has taken the lead as we enter the last 500 meters. Kedebe and Brambilla the closest to him, trying to hold him in.
Beltran with daylight to the next rider as we have 200 meters left. Madrazo the closest in the chase with Martin on the extreme right next up. Kritskiy, Dombrowski and Brambilla on the left, and Kudus and Tenorio on the right make up the first line.
100 meters. Madrazo and Kritskiy are the ones with momentum. The gap to Beltran has closed a little. Amador too coming up through the middle. Kudus is fading, and with Alarcon already out of the front positions, it's not looking good for Repsol. Martin, Brambilla and Tenorio holding their places for now. Hirt trying to squeeze through the gap between Kudus and Tenorio.
Beltran's earlier gap is enough to keep him ahead till the finish. He just about gets a celebration in before the line.
Madrazo and Kritskiy claim the podium spots.
Dombrowski and Martin complete the Top 5.
A fast finishing Hirt gets 6th. Tenorio hangs on for 7th. Amador is next.
A slowing Brambilla claims 9th with Wellens just beating out Kudus for 10th. They are followed by Yates.
Berhane, Uran and Talansky complete the Top 15.
Next through is Cattaneo, Konig, Kedebe, Meintjes and Bennett to make up the Top 20.
Today's winner - Eduard Alexander Beltran.
Beltran takes a famous win against the odds in a stacked field. With all the talk about his wage in the off-season, this is the best way to start the season and shush the doubters. It is also a very important early result for his team.
The likes of Madrazo, Kritskiy and Dombrowski more or less finished according to form, but each will perhaps feel they've missed a good chance at a stage and GC win.
The GC does see some differences in order from how they finished the stage - Hirt and Amador finish 4th and 5th with Martin and Dombrowski dropping to 6th and 7th. Kudus and Yates jump above Wellens in the GC.
The likes of Farfetch, Repsol and Minions will be disappointed with their outing, with 11th place the best that any of them achieved. Last season's winners Kulczyk only managed a best of 27th place.
Goss and Beltran share the Points jersey with a win each. Kunshin wins the KOM jersey, with Beltran second here as well. A good outing for Campari as they win the Team standings as well. Kudus makes up a bit for his team by winning the U25 classification.
