True, he definitely finished with the riders whom he needed most to put time into. We'll gladly take this win but it's not the best news GC-wise.
One would think so, but he's likely to lose minutes in the upcoming time trial. Which means he practically needs to gain a few minutes on tomorrow's relatively easy stage.

 Tour de France (2.GT)  Stage 19/21, 169.2 kms
Stage 19 was the last chance to gain time or make sure not to lose any more before the dreaded 45 km time trial. The second category Franschhoek Pass was the last noteworthy difficulty of this year's special TDF edition.
At first, just two guys in today's breakaway: Mikaël Chérel and George Bennett. Later Sepúlveda, Grmay and Ulissi joined them.
Surprisingly, Sepúlveda was fine with Bennett winning the first mountain sprint. The Argentine could mathematically still take the jersey from Chávarri.
Racing suddenly was harder after the last intermediate sprint. A moment of unawareness resulted in Chávarri being dropped from the GC group.
And there was more. Bahrain's perfectly executed plan had opened up a gap for GC 6th Alaphilippe. The French champion was about to catch up with the last survivors from the break at the foot of Franschhoek Pass.
Out of nowhere, Peter Sagan caught up on the climb. Pinot sat not too far back either. Simon Yates also rode clear of the GC group.
After a big effort, Eder was relieved to find himself in that GC group. Kelderman, Poels, Benoot and Landa were with him.
Two of the best descenders in the world of cycling weren't going to let anyone come back. Peter Sagan beat Alaphilippe in a sprint à deux for his fifth stage win.
Eder sprinted to a 6th place, as his group just caught up with Simon Yates. Pinot finishing about half a minute earlier made Eder's quest to keep place on the podium an even greater challenge.

Tour de France (2.GT)  Stage 20/21, 45.1 km ITT
Do or die on the 45 km ITT bringing the riders from Melbosstrand to the Bellville velodrome. The multi-purpose indoor venue has also hosted concerts of several world famous singers and bands.
Multiple interesting names left the start ramp early. Of Adrien Costa, Würtz Schmidt, French champion Paillot, Ludvigsson, Phinney, Boom, it was Würtz Schmidt who came out on top.
Until former world champion Andrew Talansky forced him out of the hotseat, that was.
Two of our men had a GC spot to defend. Whilst Dayer Quintana had already been caught up with by Gallopin at the intermediate point, Tom Dumoulin failed to beat Talansky's time.
The second part of the time trial suited Dayer better, and he finished close to Gallopin, who thus made up about two minutes. Gallopin didn't pass him, but he still dropped from 14th to 16th.
Eder quickly felt he definitely wouldn't remain on the podium. At the intermediate check, Simon Yates had already caught up with him.
Just like Dayer, Eder had a slightly better second part, as he finished close to Yates. Yet Kelderman had almost caught him too at the line, proving a time loss of almost four minutes.
That was it then. The time trialing is just not Eder's cup of tea. A stage win and the youth and mountain jerseys are hardly a result to be ashamed of.
And tomorrow, we still have a third jersey on the line.

No surprise to see so many Danes near the top of the TT result. Sagan is just a beast too. Of course too bad that Eder fell down a bit because of the TT but I think 5th is still a good finish for sure, and hey, atleast he wasn't 4 seconds slower

Not a coincidence indeed, as the country's known for producing great rouleurs, and it took a Dutch specialist and an American former world champ to deny them this win. Sagan's versatility is just out of this world really. Five stages and 8th overall here definitely make up for a spring campaign that was subpar, to his personal standards.
We had no idea how far Eder could go here considering the GC, and 5th is way beyond any of our expectations. Could have been sixth too in the end indeed.

It's been a long journey to P̶a̶r̶i̶s̶ Cape Town and its conclusion is a mostly flat stage of about 125 kilometers. A showdown between the strongest sprinters is the most likely scenario. If the difference between the contenders is big enough positionwise, the green jersey could still change shoulders today.
Carlos' mediocre sprint at the intermediate made Kittel gain 9 points over him in the standings. The difference could still be made up, especially if Marcel would manage to win the stage.
After the sprint, a breakaway trio with Kadri, Van Hooydonck and Conti broke clear.
Sunweb and Dimension Data controlled the pace all day long, which made that Gallopin couldn't return after his crash. The man sitting 12th overall would spend the rest of the day on his own and dropped 10 places on the closing day.
Conti got rid of his companions but there was no way the break would make it to the line today. Their move was over around the 20-to-go mark.
Inside those last 20 kilometers, Barbero pretty much camped in Kittel's wheel. He knew very well only the German could still take the green jersey from him.
Sunweb's train, however, never succeeded in taking the upper hand. Under the flamme rouge, the two competitors sat in a bad position.
Some of the world's best sprinters challenged for the first time in this race. Ewan was Dimension Data's man for the day but he couldn't beat a very strong Stuyven.
Carlos came 8th just behind Kittel, who even saw Stuyven pass him in the points standings.
Overall, Kelderman made it two in a row, winning his second TDF and his fourth Grand Tour.
Chávarri made it two in a row as well, and even twice. Too polka dot wins for him, and two white jerseys for the team (as it went to Guerreiro last year).

Final overall standings
Not the most exciting Tour we've had when it comes to the overall standings. Kelderman took an early 2' advantage on the first mountain stage. He seemed to be struggling at some points, yet he stood up when it mattered most. He didn't even need the concluding time trial.
Chávarri really stepped up as a GC man. He could be totally done playing second fiddle behind Guerreiro when it comes to leading the team.

Final points standings
By far the biggest surprise among the jersey winners. Also by far the main achievement of Barbero's cycling career so far. He was always going to struggle on the faster sprints, yet he put up a big fight on each and every occasion, with his stage win as icing on the cake.
In the end, it might have come down on the day where he won two intermediate sprints from the breakaway.

Final mountain standings
An unexpected extra that followed at the back of Chávarri summit finish win. It's quite rare nowadays that someone secures back to back wins in this competition.
If not for Eder, Sepúlveda winning could've been historic for the country of Argentina as a cycling nation.

Most definitely the least thrilling jersey battle of this edition. Chávarri had his rivals sit close until the mountains kept coming. Van der Poel is not enough of a climber (yet), Ghilardi was on the biggest underperformers GC wise, Paret-Peintre didn't climb well enough either and Galtier was too busy working for basically any other riders on his team.

Circuito de Getxo (1.1) PaÃs Vasco, 170.5 kms
Time for the annual circuit race classic in and around the Basque town of Getxo. As of 2001, it's also being dedicated to Ricardo Otxoa, a former Spanish cyclist who passed away after a car hit him during a training ride.
The startlist featured a lot of WT riders, who would mostly look to control the race. Education First had a man out front with Dall'Oste, who was joined by Lebreton (Kometa) and Santamaria (Burgos).
The three got their lead up to a maximum of 6' with more than 100 kilometers left to cover.
Movistar and Lotto Soudal put up the pace on the last couple of laps, which made all escapees crack. Having suffered from the high pace, we wouldn't come to the fore until the final 3 kms. Molano didn't have the legs to sprint anymore so we shifted our hopes from him to Alberto Bayarri.
Under the red kite, Carlos Verona was in the lead. With the steepest section still to come, Bayarri waited a little longer in Molano's wheel.
Bayarri turned out to have suffered from the high pace too, as he kept losing spots even after launching. He'd cross the line in 7th place.
Verona kept up his powerful sprint and bagged his third win of the season. With Jairo Noria coming third, the podium featured two riders who will defend our team's colors as from next year.

Thanks! Although the TT kept us from doing even better, 3 jerseys, 2 stage wins and a top 5 is an out of this world result for us. Loads of WT points to get us back into the bunch after a mediocre spring campaign.

Clásica San Sebastián (1.UWT) PaÃs Vasco, 231.8 kms
As always, the post TDF classic's startlist features an interesting mix. It's always a combo of men who finished the main Grand Tour well and riders that prepared themselves with extensive training rides.
While the breakaway attempts started almost immediately, it would take a few tens of kilometers for a group to go clear. Its four riders were Calvin Watson, Mikkel Iturria, former CX rider Lars van der Haar and Thijs van Beusichem.
The first Arkale and Jaizkibel ascents didn't bring much action. At the top of the second Jaizkibel, 50 kilometers from the line, the break still had a 3'25" lead.
The last Arkale climb was used to bring the gap down. Watson, as the sole leader, kept 1'05" for the last 20 kilometers. A vast peloton still counted 100 riders.
Inside the last 10 kilometers, all escapees were gone. A trio with Alaphilippe, Pinot and Verona rode away from the pack on a bump.
A chasing group of about five sat 20" down, with Ion Izagirre pacing for Diego Ochoa.
After the two first groups had merged, the reduced pack caught up again too. Ochoa opted not to wait for a sprint. He'd pass under the red kite with a small gap, with Alaphilippe ready to launch from Carlos Verona's wheel.
Ochoa faltered on the false flat last straight and had to be content with a fifth place. Alaphilippe came to late to pass a very strong Verona, who landed the biggest win of his career. Good old Alejandro Valverde completed the podium.

It was the best move that could be made, I'm afraid. Izagirre didn't have anything left and Ochoa would have seen even more riders sprinting faster than him if he had just waited. We'll just take the achieved sponsor goal.
